Jordan Hankins wanted to help others through Northwestern sorority that her parents say led to her death

Jordan Hankins' parents say that by the time she was 6 years old, they already could see signs of their daughter's giving nature.

"We knew that we would be prepared if we went downtown," said Hankins' mother, Felicia. "We always had change."

That extra money wasn't for treats for young Jordan, but instead was for panhandlers in downtown Indianapolis. If her parents forgot, they said, their little girl would scour their Indiana home to fill her pockets with coins.

Her mom said that drive to help others was a major reason why Jordan, a star basketball player, pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Northwestern University in 2016.

"She felt she would be a part of something special,"
