It is very evident today that we live in many a society ruled by fear. Fear and distrust have grown so much in recent times that nothing seems to be able to keep them in check. The greater the efforts taken to alleviate our fears, the stronger they become. It rages among nations, states, organisations, families and individuals.

In spite of the many kinds of security devices manufactured and sold as well as the increasingly sophisticated measures taken to ensure our safety, they have, nevertheless, all failed to make us feel any safer. But lurking behind all this is the fear and trepidation caused by the realisation that we have reached a turning point where we must acknowledge that the era of humanity’s arrogance and intellectual sagacity, is at an end. The intellect is incapable of extricating us from this vicious circle of fear and distrust simply because humanity’s total reliance on this intellect at the expense of the spirit is the primary reason for this sorry state of affairs having developed in the first place. Some examples of the bitter harvest we must now reap are discussed below:
