Both carpeting and timber have stood the test of time as beautiful and practical flooring solutions that suit many homes. Carpeting is soft and sumptuous underfoot and it’s available in a huge array of colours. Timber flooring is aesthetically beautiful, durable and strong. The growing availability of a wider choice of timbers and carpeting, thanks to technological advances in production methods, has provided greater variety in quality finishes, colours, patterns and textures.

Can’t decide which one to choose? The good news is you don’t have to. Mixing it up helps to create different living zones, particularly in open-plan homes. If you do choose both timber and carpeting, stick with the same colour palette to allow the transitional zones to flow with a sense of cohesiveness. It’s easier on the eye. And if you are using both timber and carpets, choose carpet with a pile-loop height that doesn’t extend
