      Loved it! Ada's definately my new favourite character.So sorry about Sam, I'll miss him.And finally, Shane and Claire, er, consummated :)I have to admit I totally bought Oliver's act, I really thought he was on Bishop's side.About Dean...well, I didn't see it coming. At all.

      The extremely strong and powerful vampire Mr Bishop has taken complete control of Morganville. Claire is forced to do his bidding because of a magical tattoo he has put on her, Michael has been bitten by him and is now under his control, Shane is locked up in prison with his Dad, and Eve wants nothing to do with Claire. Amelie has gone into hiding, and Myrnin has sided with Bishop. Things are pretty much screwed for Claire.That is until she finds out that Amelie is gathering those who are still loyal to her underground, and that Myrnin and Michael are playing spies. With a plan in the works, moves are made – but on both sides. Bishop is not going to hand over control of Morganville without a fight, and plans to destroy all those who are against him, human and vamp alike. There’s a race against the clock with predicting and outmanoeuvring the opponent to be getting on with, and Claire’s ready to get her hands dirty.I love Rachel Caine, and I love this series. And you know what? I LOVE Carpe Corpus!Compared to the other novels in the series, there is a lot more build up to the action and fighting at the beginning of the book, but that doesn’t make this book any less amazing. It’s like a game of chess, but with a whole lot of thinking and planning before acting done, and it’s just awesome seeing all the characters we come to love (and hate, in Oliver’s case) trying o work together to come up with a way to defeat what seems the undefeatable, when there is very little power left in their hands.When the action does kick in, though, it’s a classic Morganville adrenalin fest! I won’t spoil it for you, but plans can always go haywire, and when it comes to having no time to think but just act, anything can go wrong. You’ll seriously be reading with bated breath trying to work out what the outcome will be! It’s as exciting as ever!Our favourite characters are back! Michael, Shane, Claire and Eve are downtrodden, but their personalities still shine through; Michael is still charming, Shane is still acts before he thinks, Claire is still practical, and Eve is still sarcastic. They’re all just a little desperate too. And there is a development with some of these characters. I won’t spoil it, but will say, Rachel; good job!The one issue I have with this book is that a certain plot line was resolved at the very end of the book, almost like an afterthought. I’m probably wrong, but it just read like it was added in during revisions; a bit of drama at the end added to make it personal to Claire, and a scene inserted further on in the book, so Claire we knew certain characters. It wasn’t necessarily badly written, it’s just seemed a little odd to read when the main story of the book came to its end, and then there was this extra bit at the end of the book. It’s probably the link to the next book in the series, just not as cliff-hanger-y. It was just a little weird. I still loved the book though!As a bonus, UK readers get an short story in their copy of the book from Shane’s point of view, about him buying a car. Pretty nifty!

      Vague spoiler alert... I adore page 70. Haha... Loved the book, would write more but book 7 is calling my name.. Lol Way to go Rachel, I have the next 8 books by my chair and plans to have read all 14 back to back. (I liked #6 so much I read it in less that 5 hours.. Lol)

      Carpe Corpus was a decent read. It tied up a lot of loose ends from previous books. I look forward to the next addition of this series.

      This book was full of excitement and confusion and a lot of warring emotions. It takes you on a ride from fear and betrayal to understanding and acceptance and then of course the dreaded cliffhanger at the end.

      The vampire war comes to a climax in this edition and we get to see which side will be triumphant. We get to see how many losses we must suffer in the process and how that takes it's toll on our favorite characters.

      Claire is still front and center and being used as a pawn by more than the people you'd expect. She gets caught in the middle time and time again and seems to be always in the wrong place at the wrong time...or is she in the right place?

      I love the relationship between her and the housemates. Each relationship being different, but somehow making this tightknit and unique group of friends who would do anything for one another. It's rare to find that kind of friends and it's very satisfying to read about them.

      I will continue to read the Morganville Vampire books and I definitely recommend them for fans of the genre.

      So, i freakin love this series. In my opinion they top just about every vampire series out there.
      That said, i realise that this book came out about two months ago. I know... i know because i bought it the day it came out.
      It's not that it took me two months to read a 200 page book. It's just that if i own a book i do not read it. I don't know why. And it bugs me. But it's the sad truth.
      That said, this was, of course, excellent. It was probably the first Morganville book i've read that had an ending that didn't make me want to toss the book across the room (darn.. i actually own this one so i could toss it if i needed too!) So, there's a plus people, it ends well for once!
      This one picks up right where 'Lords of Misrule' left off (and it will be so embarrassing if i'm wrong...)
      Mr. Bishop has complete control. Both Claire and Michael are his errand boys (... girl in Claire's case.) Shane ad his dad are in prison. Amilie's MIA, and it's all looking pretty much completely hopeless.
      Which, you know, i love! Bring on the hopelessness!
      There's always a highlighted character for me in books and usually in this series it's Michael and Eve (cause they're probably my favorites. ever.) but i have to say Myrnin was my favorite in this one =D
      He's just so awesome! Gotta love a completely insane vampire!
      Aaaanyway, i'm way excited for the next book in the series Fade Out. I'll totally buy it... (And read it!!!!.... >.>) I really wish i could read Rachel Caine's other series, the Weather Warden series but i can't find the first one anywhere = .... ohh well, i'm content with Morganville =D

      I can't believe this series goes on after this book, it seems so finished. Everything tied up in a nice package.

      I wanted to read this one because I am addicted to the series, and can't get enough right now. It is nice to be able to binge on a series and not have to worry about forgetting details and having that burning need to have the next one right that second and the let down of having to wait another year or so for the characters you have fallen in love with and the romance that has your own toes tingling. It is hard to see Claire in this one because she is serving Bishop because of the magical tattoo that he gave her that compels her to obey him. She has become an understandably outcast in Morganville for those loyal to Amelie or maybe just hates Bishop. That includes Eve, which breaks her heart and mine too because I love their tight friendship. Shane is captured in this one, stuck in a cell with his dad because of his ties to the anti-vampire movement his dad is in charge of. Its hard having the distance between them because I love seeing them together. One good thing in this one is that Claire is turning seventeen which means that it is not illegal for her and Shane to be together once they are finally reunited. The betrayals and double crosses in this one had my mind spinning, but I loved how this one ended and tied up. Though, my addiction is screaming for me to go ahead and read the next one.Bottom Line: Loving this series, and nothing about this book changed that.

      These book just keep getting better and better. With book six, the series ventures into the world of steampunk with a special Morganville twist. With the very little I have actually read in the genre of Steampunk, I had a hard time visualizing what Ada looks like, but I am hoping these eventually become movies and someone creates this fascinating machine for the movies! Ada's quirkiness and creepiness fit right in with the rest of the Morganville residents, though, so I know that she/it will grow on me, too.
      With this book, it is also a relief that Claire has finally turned seventeen. The build-up between her and Shane was driving me crazy. I also like how the author was much more realistic about her first time with Shane than many romance novelists, with much awkwardness and naivety. Her parents' response to the knowledge of this was quite humorous and charming and lent some much-needed humor to the extent of fear with which Morganville is saturated.
      Even though these books have much fantasy, they still move along with a certain believability. The one major exception that I found in this book - that I simply had a hard time believing possible - was when Claire almost dies at the end. With the amount of blood loss she suffered from, there is simply no way she could stay conscious for the amount of that she did or stay alive as she did. When books are as entertaining as these are though, I don't mind a little "writer's license" to keep the main character alive and resolve the loose thread of who is responsible for the random murders of girls in the previous books. I am surprised, though, that Claire never made the connection to who Dean is, since I saw it coming quite easily.
      Mynin gets more and more entertaining and fascinating from book to book - he is probably one of my favorite characters for his unpredictability. I am thrilled that the disease can no longer get the best of him - it means he could play a more central role in future books. Many of the characters are easy to like, even if their morals often verge into gray area, such as Amelie.
      Even though the "book" has suffered its final demise, the bookworm in me still wonders what else was in that book, so I hope future books can tell me more about it.

      I didn't really enjoy the first part of this one- the tone was all wrong and completely different to the rest. The relationship between Shane and Claire is vital to the story, and it didn't make sense for them to be apart for half the book. It definitely got better though, and I really enjoyed the second half. A lot happens, and everyone changes loyalties so much it's hard to keep track, but the suspense kept it going. The ending was good and I can't wait to start on the next one.

      Carpe Corpus is the sixth book in Rachel Caine's popular YA series, Morganville Vampires. It isn't absolutely necessary to read the first 5 books beforehand, but honestly: why would anyone begin a series with the sixth book? If you haven't read the first 5 books, I highly recommend reading them first. The characters evolve during the series, and that's a pleasure you don't want to miss. Amelie's father, Bishop, arrived in Feast of Fools (book 4). Since then, both "teams" have been preparing for a showdown. Finally, it happens in Carpe Corpus. With all that buildup, I guess I expected more. The stage was set, Bishop began his creepy spectacle, and then it ended rather quickly. Don't be too distraught, because although things end happily (well, as happily ever after as one can get in Morganville)there are still some loose ends. I suspect we haven't seen the last of Bishop.As with the other books in the series, Rachel Caine masterfully creates an action-packed plot, describes an eerie paranormal setting, and crafts multi-dimensional characters you actually care about. Midnight Alley (book 3) introduced the character Myrnin. In my review for that book, I mentioned he's my favorite character. The same holds true in Carpe Corpus. Just when you think you have Myrnin figured out, he does something unexpected. Thankfully, he is cured in Carpe Corpus, so hopefully he'll continue to be featured in the rest of the series. Rachel Caine introduces another interesting character as well, Ada. Ada is hard to explain...neither human nor vampire, but she is extremely important to the future of Morganville. She's very mysterious and creepy, so I hope we'll uncover more of her in future installments. Shane and Claire, Michael and Eve are all still together. Shane and Claire continue to move closer to one another. (Claire deserves something positive in her life!)The city of Morganville goes through a dramatic change in this book. It was never a Norman Rockwell town, but now it is downright creepy. Rachel Caine does a fabulous job of describing these changes to the reader. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in the series. (One note of caution: This book features a sexual situation and some strong language. The sexual scene is not graphic, and the language is not alarmingly frequent, but it is there.)

      Rachel Caine's dynamic characters in the Morganville Vampires series never cease to amaze me. Especially in Carpe Corpus when all seems lost and the members of the Glass House must, again, defend the humans and vampires of Morganville against the reign of the terrible Bishop. As with all of Caine's novels, this one ends too soon - but it is a total page turner and will leave you craving more, which is great because she's already written several follow up novels in the series. If you like Twilight and other paranormal fiction you should definitely try this series. This is why I rate Carpe Corpus a 4 out of 5.

      I loved this book just like the rest. All the other books had an intense ending making sure that you wanted to read the next one. Luckly this one has an ending to the book with some other possiblities, but at least it won't drive me nuts to have to wait until the end of the year to read the next one.

      I am always exhausted while reading this series, but it's well worth the debilitation. Claire is always trying to do the right thing while being young, uber intelligent, in love and living in a town of vampires. Shane is in vampire jail, Michael is working for the bad guy, Eve hates her and her vampire mentor, Myrnin, is on the edge of madness. She's got to do what it takes to make things better if possible, if the good guys will let her help. This is one of my favorite series. And now this one is my favorite of the series. Each one has that 'honor' as I read it and each next one has the possibility.Highly recommedable to anyone who enjoys a well written story, vampire or otherwise. Five Texas vampires aren't all bad (and not all good) beans.....

If you can do that you will truly know what reading Book #6 in the Morganville Vampire Series is like. I have enjoyed all the books in this series but this one was the most entertaining and thrilling. Seriously…thrilling…frightening…and all consuming. Morganville and all of its residents, both human and vampire are involved in a battle for their lives. If you are on Bishop’s side you are relatively safe and may stay alive for the time being. If you are on Amelie’s side, you are hunted and hiding and totally wrecked and ruined…for the time being. If you are a human…you are pretty much just out of luck. I have to admit to my total addiction to vampire books but I truly believe that Bishop is the most evil vampire character that I have ever encountered. He shows no mercy, no compassion and delights in hatred, hurting and evil…and his evil is the most evil of all evils. Of course this makes this book such fun to read. Claire, again, is the key character. She is so much fun especially when so many bad things happen to her. Myrnin again plays a most fascinating role. He is scary and kind and tricky and funny…all of the things that I love in a vampires. I actually even sort of like Oliver. With Oliver you just never know which way he is going to go…will he choose evil or good…that is Oliver’s mystery. Michael and Shane remain protectors. Eve emerges as a brave Goth warrior…who will do whatever she can to help her friends.That is all that I can tell you about this book…I think this series is fun…and I also think the writing is exceedingly good. It has truly kept my interest. I have read nothing but this series for the last 10 days…

      Wow. The four Glass Roommates are separated in this book. Claire is forced to do Bishops bidding, Michael in under his spell. Shane in jail? And Eve is in Glass House. I liked this, more action I thought then in the other books, don't get me wrong, they all had action, but this one had a little bit from everyone, and a few surprises thrown in.The only problems I have with the series is the way Caine has Claire's parents randomly popping up in the series. Now that they are in Morganville too, it's like they don't care. But when Caine brings them up, they are all like "Claire please be responsible. Sex is bad." If they were my parents I'd be living at home locked in an attic somewhere getting bread shoved under the door!That and the randomness of Eve's brother (who I believe is Jason right. J-something...) they bring him up every book, but then what?Other then that, I'm still hooked on the series. And I can't be sure (because I'm really behind writing a review, and have since long moved on to other books) but I think this might be the first book that wasn't a complete cliffhanger!! Sweet!

      So there's various plots in various places and poor Claire isn't really trusted by anyone - Bishop's magical mark makes her a poor bet for Amelia's side and Richard's side (which aren't quite the same) and Bishop knows she doesn't want to help him either.She wonders around in a bit of daze, aware there's lots going on and trying to find out what. Surprisingly this actually works quite well.She also turns 17, gets Shane out of jail and jumps in the sack with him. It's kind of cute actually, it's definitely a sweet making-love scene rather than hot sex.There's lots of fun about that with her parents too of course.There is a nice ending to the story as well. This could be another "End of Series" piece but there is enough in there left open that I find myself hoping it's not.

      Well when we last left Claire Danvers in Lord of Misrule, the proverbial poop had definitely hit the fan. Bishop (with Myrnin's help) had pulled the coup of coups, Amelie was defeated (well only slightly rumpled), the Morganville rebellion had been quashed and were hurting pretty bad. Shane, his dad, and the beefy motorcycle slayers had been captured or killed, and Michael had been turned to the dark side. (let's now say that in a sinister voice: The Daaaark Side) And Monica...was Monica. Still alive and just as cranky and mean as ever. `Nuff said. Basically fans were left on the precipice hanging by their itty-bitty fingernails. An excruciatingly painful state of unknowing existed for all of us until the next Morganville came out. So we have been waiting for Carpe Corpus with bated breath, and Miss Rachel Caine has delivered us! Hallelujah! Life has become ever more complicated in the town that vampires made. Claire's parents are now trapped in Morganville. Bishop is the vampire dictator to end them all but what is even freakier, is that he's got no interest in ruling-only destroying. It's only a matter of time before the creepy fanged town implodes. But Claire has to prevent it, save Amelie and the others, and it's kinda hard to do that when she's been enslaved by magic from the Founders book. Caine's series is incredibly engaging and in Carpe Corpus we finally see Claire evolve from her painfully shy and timid persona to a kick butt heroine. There is a "serious girl theme" in the book involving Claire and Shane, the introduction of the rather creepy Victorian Ada and we eventually get to see the "true" Myrnin-a cured Myrnin. And work continues on the vampire serum but not without its costs. Think more edgy, darker and fleshed out than Twilight, more Melissa Marr, Holly Black, Cassandra Clare, and Chris Wooding. So is it "Happily Ever After" with Morganville? Uh uh, I'd hold your breath. With Morganville you never know. Think there is some life in her yet!

      Reviewed on it's release date:Book 6 is where the cliff hanger from Lord of Misrule ends. At first you'll get the feeling that our beloved Claire is seriously in a very pitiful, helpless situation. Our beloved Shane is in captivity / hostage and Mr. Bishop is just being Mr. Bishop and the usual gang of the Glass House are obviously on their own. But not for long, be patient. Shane was set free but with a heartbreaking consequence, One of the good vampires die and I found myself being extremely sad about that. It has new characters, new weirdness, Monica Morell back to her usual bitchy bully predatory self and WTF moments that at some point I thought wouldn't quite fit with the whole plot but worked. Yes im talking about the introduction of Ada... So who's really killing the girls in town? Nope it wouldn't be the one that you would most likely suspect. This is my favorite book in the series, The characters are fully developed and it marks the change of everything. And did Shane and Claire finally do it? Nope not going to give out any clues, read and find out. Are the vampires noe really cured? Is this new equalized status of vamps and human going to work out for the best? Who's the next bad guy?... And now I'm back to waiting...

      It is no secret that I love Rachel Caine and all of the Morganville Vampire books. When comparing CARPE CORPUS to the others in the series, I'd have to say that it isn't my favorite, but is definitely worth the 4 glasses rating.The first 1/3 of the book was a little slow for me, but when the action kicked in, it went straight through to the last page of the book. As with the other books in the series, the story is best when the whole team is involved (Claire, Shane, Eve, and Michael). The banter between the group, even in the middle of an emergency situation, is a great part of the stories. The banter and normal home life activities are two things that I missed from CARPE CORPUS. The plot kept everyone separated and away from home a little more than usual.I absolutely can't wait for FADE OUT which is due out in November 2009. I can't wait to see how the relationship between Claire and Shane evolves. They are so cute together.

      The Morganville vampire series by Rachel Caine could suck the blood from the other similar YA novels on the market. This book "Carpe Corpus" feels like an ending of sorts. Things have been moving at a heartwrenching pace since the first book "Glass Houses". This book definitely fills like a conclusion to most of those plot threads and I would have been scared except for the teaser in the back for the 7th book "Fade Out". This story picks up with the town of Morganville under the rule of a big bad vampire, Bishop, who wants only to destroy the entire town and its inhabitants. He also has Claire under a powerful magic that puts her at his beck and call. Michael is also under his influence and Eve is mad at them all and feeling betrayed. Shane and his vampire hunting dad are locked in a cell until their fates can be decided. Can the people of Morganville fight Bishop's influences and save thier town? While this book was a little slower to start then the previous volumes, once it switched into overdrive it was a non stop journey to the end. I have come to adore some of these characters, and I have felt betrayed in the past by some as well. This is a real credit to Rachel Caine's writing that she can inspire the reader to feel so much. I will point out that my stepdaughter is thirteen and has loved the series as much as I do (I am in my thirties). There is one scene between Claire and Shane where they actually go over the line I thought Rachel established for the series as far as adult content... Its not terribly graphic and I appreciate it for what it was, but I do feel its fair to give warning because it might be fine for a 15 year old reader, but I have a decision to make on whether or not to allow my 13 year old to read it. Still, this book is an example of wonderful world- building and word building. The characters are endearing to me and there isn't enough praise I can give this book. I can just say: Read It.
