About this audiobook
It’s Nina Landry’s birthday, and she’s supposed to have her kids ready to leave in a few hours for a Christmas holiday in Florida with her new boyfriend, but her fifteen-year-old daughter Charlie spent the night at a friend’s and hasn’t come home yet. Not by ten a.m., not by eleven. Nina is getting angry—they have a plane to catch, and Charlie hasn’t even bothered to pack. As time passes, though slower and slower by the minute, Nina becomes uneasy. Her anger gives way to worry, and that worry quickly builds into panic.
By one p.m., she’s wondering, has Charlie run away, or has something far worse happened? And why won’t anyone—not the cops, not Charlie’s friends, not Charlie’s father—take her disappearance seriously?
As day turns to night on their home of Sandling Island sixty miles from London, and a series of ominous secrets leads Nina from sickening suspicion to deadly certainty, the question becomes less whether she and her daughter will leave the island in time and more whether they’ll ever leave it again.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoyed this book because it didn’t follow a usual plot line where everything is all tied up in a bow at the end. It kept me guessing.

Alice is a woman who has it all, good job, relationship...
She leaves everything behind to run off with her new boyfriend, even though she doesn't know anything about him. He soon turns violent and obsessive. This seems the moment for Alice to run away again, but she doesn't.
It's called a novel of obsession, and that's certainly what it was. That part definitely was interesting, but Alice's stupid decisions annoyed me. I've heard the stories so I know things like this actually happen, but I can't see why she stays there. The writing as always was nice to read, this is one of Nicci French's books I liked better.
I once watched the first few minutes of the movie they made from this book, but it was plain horrible! Couldn't stand to watch it. - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I think this book should be classified as 'chic-lit/thriller'. Maybe even erotic/chic-lit/thriller! I do enjoy a good thriller but this book felt as though it were trying to cover too many genres. I know it can be done but in this case it felt forced. If those are your favorite genres though then this may be the book for you. :)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I read this on a Christmas Day night that I spent alone :-) 4 yrs ago. I've written that after a few minutes I was hooked and read it all through the night. I became a big fan of the Nicci French team until I tried to read their day of thewweek crimes ...and was no longer a big fan.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a wild psychological thriller. Alice has her mundane life with her normal boyfriend. Til the day that she sees the blue eyed dark handsome Adam. You can literally feel the sparks fly as their gaze leads them to a wild afternoon.Alice abandons her normal life and begins a lustful, chaotic ride with Adam. The author eludes to a BDSM relationship without giving details. Alice begins to question her sanity only to reveal a dark discovery.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really enjoyed this love story come thriller, you really felt for Alice...
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Interesting and suspenseful! Alice is a Londoner who suddenly and obsessively falls in love with Adam, a man that she meets on the street. She throws all caution to the wind, spending all her time with him, withdrawing from the world, and totally losing herself. Very quickly they marry, and soon Alice realizes that her new husband may not be what he appears; in fact her life may be in danger. Good read!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I really enjoyed this book although it was'nt one of my normal reading choices. I found i could relate very well to the main character Alice. Id describe the book as a mild thriller. the only bad thing i thought was that the ending was wrapped up very quickly.
