My seven-year-old granddaughter is eagerly reading her way through the A to Z Mysteries and I found an old copy laying around the house. Although typically I would not read a book intended for such a young reader, I was interested to see what appealed to her. I won’t attempt to evaluate the book from the perspective of an adult reader as that is not the intended audience.I can see the appeal to young readers. The primary characters are three youngsters, two boys and a girl, who mirror the age of the intended readers. Dink, Ruth Rose, and Josh are active youngsters who, when they confront a problem or puzzle, immediately set to work to find a solution. Adults respect and defer to them as if they were of equal maturity and problems solving ability. The youngsters show initiative, sensitivity, and positive community spirit. The short books tell an interesting story that espouses pro-social values and uses a suitable vocabulary. At only 84 pages, with numerous pictures and a large font, the book is easy for an adult to read in 2-3 hours. It would interesting but challenging for most readers at the second grade level.I hardly know what numeric rating to give this but settled on “very good.”

Another fun episode in the A to Z series. I enjoy the banter between the juvenile characters and enjoy hearing them puzzle the mysteries out". I also appreciated how the grown ups in the stories interacted with the kids. Most of the adults took them seriously and didn't treat them as inferior minds just because they are children. My favorite story in this set is "Haunted Hotel" where the kids take on a ghost in their hometown."

Mine Well it’s summer and time for the summer reading program at the library. This is when most of my children & young adult books. I try to read some of the same books as my nephews. The older one loves the A-Z and Capital Mysteries.

I have to say this is a very cute series. I love the fact that the kids are not scares (well maybe Josh is) about taking on adults. Many children don’t know how to talk to them. The kids have convinced the owners of the hotel that they can solve the mystery, if they don’t the owners will have to sell the hotel to be knocked down. They get to spend the night to see if they see the ghost also. The ghost seems all too familiar with who is stay at the hotel. It goes to each door of the room that the kids are staying in and knows their names. Who else is at the hotel that would know their names?

There are funny smells in the hallway that seem familiar. What could it be? It seems the kids are on to something with this clue. The clue leads them to the only other guests in the hotel – what is the connection?

In the end the kids figure it out and save the hotel from the demolition ball.

This is book H in a series of A-Z mysteries. In this story Dink,Josh, and Ruth Rose saw something on tv , the people visited in a local hotel heard groans and noises through the night so they go to check it out. Josh says there is no such thing as ghost.. he will not believe in ghost until he sees on , and then a ghost came through the elevator shaft. The find out over the course of the book , the troubles have been from the owner Aunt and Uncle and the sword used to scare people is wooden and the sounds are from a tape recorder.
