About this audiobook

Not your typical boring diet book, this is a tart-tongued, no-holds-barred wake-up call to all women who want to be thin. With such blunt advice as "Soda is liquid Satan" and "You are a total moron if you think the Atkins Diet will make you thin," it's a rallying cry for all savvy women to start eating healthy and looking radiant. Unlike standard diet books, it actually makes the listener laugh out loud with its truthful, smart-mouthed revelations. Behind all the attitude, however, there is solid guidance. Skinny Bitch espouses a healthful lifestyle that promotes whole grains, fruits, and vegetables and encourages women to get excited about feeling "clean and pure and energized."

I got half way through and just can't bring myself to read any further. I think it's for fear of what other horrific things I will read. After the graphic detail in which stories are told from workers at slaughter houses......I thought I was going to hurl!!!! It definitely makes you think and who knows maybe a lifestyle change or an activist may come from this. I haven't eaten meat in a few days but that doesn't mean I've given it up for good. Time will tell.

This book is important! It is a classic & admittedly not for everyone but it’s a piece of history. Culturally important but possibly triggering for people born after 1989

It's very American, a lot of the insights didn't apply to me. However the section on animal treatment has renewed my commitment to vegetarianism, and for that I'm grateful.

My only regret is that I didn't read this book years ago. Each chapter lists the facts i have already researched. Only it took me much longer. The title is incredibly misleading though-)

Not what I thought from the title. It's a pretty comprehensive indictment of the US food industry, and by extrapolation western food industry. Worth getting a hard copy.

Vegan propaganda for rich white people. You will lose weight if you follow this book.. you will need to buy expensive organic vegan alternatives to regular food though. I have no problem with either of these things but I wish I hadn’t wasted my time with this book. Please note that if you live in a society that does not have a vegetarian or vegan culture most vegan food options are highly processed something that these ladies do not talk about. I would have been interested if they had only been truthful about their intentions.

Started off well, I had a chuckle here and there about the language, but some insults I felt would probably do more harm than good. Then it turned into vegan propaganda, using graphic depictions of the slaughter industry to disway you from consuming animal products. I thought I could just skip over that, but it went for two whole chapters! I decided at that point that this book wasn’t for me.

Those two chapters aside, the information presented in the first few chapters had very few resources to back up their information, some points written about have even been disproven. I also felt like I should dig out my tinfoil hat because of the claims that we can’t trust anyone, including the FDA and other government areas.

Under the guise of weight loss/healthy eating book, this book should really come with a warning label. One advising of the graphic nature of two chapters of the animal food industry, and another warning that the authors have no business writing a book on nutrition.

not really a self help or motivating type of book. mostly just trying to convince me to become a vegan.

Awful book! More of an animal rights bill!
Gives the impression that it’s a diet book states off well for first couple of chapters then bangs on about veganism, animal cruelty etc. so it shouldn’t be advertising itself as a diet help book.

Don’t waste your time. There are vastly better books that provide health and weight loss information without sounding like a foul mouth Kardashian wrote it. I think this was meant to be entertaining but all I heard was some angry Karen saying mean things about overweight people and using this book as an anti carnivore diet. This book in impressionable and desperate hands is a guide book to an unhealthy eating disorder and fat phobia mentality.

I now know why this book had such a low rating. It was less about weight loss and more about how meat is bad for you, and the unethical ways animals are treated. Riddled with inconsistencies. There are better books out there to read about weightloss and the unethical ways animals are treated.

While I love a good snarky read, this book didn't wow me. Most of the facts stated in the book I have read elsewhere in much more researched material. Most importantly, the book didn't offend me (though I could see how people would find it unapproachable). I like the addition of meal plans in the back of the book and I do support the majority of the ideals discussed. I still prefer other books about food and the benefits of a vegetarian/vegan diet.

This book is the one that made me stop and think about what I put in my mouth. Shortly after reading it, I stopped eating meat. No looking back. While gross-out tactics and profanity may not be for everyone, it was apparently just what I needed.

While the book itself packs a punch for the rights of animals and the greatest of adopting a vegan diet, they try way way too hard to be cool and cutesy by using a 4 letter word in every sentence.

It was off putting to say the least. You need a curse word to make a point, fine, but when it becomes the sentence and becomes crass and crude just to prove how hip you are, the message starts losing its power.

I am pro vegan, but anti these two pathetic authoresses.

This book is written by a couple of vegan woman who are trying to promote a vegan lifestyle. It was ok. I don’t remember why I added it to my tbr, but maybe I thought it was going to be funny? Not sure. But, what I didn’t like was the insults and swearing. I suppose it was meant to catch your attention/be a gimmick, but I think they should have done without it. (At the end of the book, they do say the title and the way they wrote it was to catch people’s attention.) On the other hand, I thought there was a lot of good information here. Now, these ladies are trying to convince people to go organic and vegan. I am not vegan. I am not even vegetarian (but I am close). I am “flexitarian” (yes, that’s a word! I eat meat occasionally, but not often at all), so I agree with a lot of what they have to say. Either way, I do think they gave out a lot of good information. There was a difficult section to listen to, describing some of the things that happen at slaughterhouses (I cried). I listened to the audio, but there was a large section at the end of the book that consisted of lists – unfortunately, that doesn’t work well in an audio.

Once again, here’s a book that is changing my life! First, it was Garbology by Edward Humes, which turned me from a normal recycler to someone who is making some big changes to go greener. Now, it’s Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin, which is revamping my diet and health. Skinny Bitch is “a no-nonsense, tough-love guide for savvy girls who want to stop eating crap and start looking fabulous.” The book advocates a vegan diet, which is way too extreme for me. Even so, there were tons of great tips and facts about ways to make your own diet healthier. For the full review, visit Love at First Book

I picked up this book to try to counteract some of the temptation of overeating during the holidays, with the idea that some tough direct talk would give me the resolve to walk past the endless supply of sweets at work and at home. If ratings were based on an author's intention, then this book would get 4 stars. The authors have written much more than the typical diet book, exposing some of horrible practices in the food industry. After reading about the sadistic behavior encountered in slaughter houses, I am definitely not going to be eating bacon for a LONG time. Also, the information revealed about the conflict of interest between the USDA as a governing agency and also representing the food producers will make me a much more savvy consumer. But, the book uses a gimmick of trash talking that just doesn't work for me. It is hard to find the information believable when the authors drop words like 'bitch' or 'ass' every few pages. It's too bad they felt they had to use this gimmick when they have some serious valid information to share.

At first I like the blunt and straight-forward style of the book, but after a while, the tone got tiresome, and I started looking forward to finishing the book. Some of the facts about the horrible state of the meat and dairy industry seemed extreme and sensational, trying to scare me into being a vegetarian when I already am one. I wish the authors had stuck to the health benefits vegetarianism and veganism, which I buy into better.

On the plus side, the book did give me some good ideas about attitude adjustment, and there are some good resources for books, websites, CDs and restaurant guides in the back.

Poorly substantiated claims for the superiority of the vegan lifestyle wrapped in pseudo-hip profanity and sprinkled with Cosmo-girl emphasis. I found it simply awful on all fronts.
