About this audiobook

As a healer, he knows her body. But it's her heart he wants.

For a thousand years, Gideon has healed his people. And as the oldest surviving male of his race, his wisdom has always been respected without question. But Gideon knows that even he is vulnerable to the powerful, primitive desires that befall his kind during Hallowed moons-and nine years ago that truth was hammered home when he found himself claiming Magdalena, the Demon King's sister, in a wild embrace. Horrified by his lack of control, he left her wanting and furious-and then exiled himself for the better part of a decade. Now, with necromancers threatening his people-and Magdalena nearly their victim-Gideon must face another truth. He and the beautiful, stubborn Magdalena are destined to be together, to share a love as deep and old as time itself. But first he needs to regain her trust. Then he'll have to save her life.

Sucks when you write a really long review, and then your laptop dies...So lets try this again!

I really liked this book, the series is progressing very nicely. It's no longer just a story of good vs. bad. There is now betrayal thrown into the mix as well. It continues were the first left off, with the demons worried over the growing number of the Necromancer's. They learn that the necromancer's are working with the Hunters, the group who hunt vamps and lycanthrope's. This is very unnerving news, because it shows a new organization in their ranks. Noah, the demon king, didn't know if the betrayal was because of the vampires, the lycanthropes, or someone in the demon race. The Necromancers terrify the demons, because if summoned by evil humans, the demon will lose all of their humanity.

This story is about the HEA of Legna and Gideon though. Legna was summoned in the first book by the necromancer's and the only reason she was saved was because of Bella's nullifying power. But nine years before this book takes place, Legna and Gideon, were caught in the "heat of the moon" during one of their festive moons, and almost had a fling. Gideon thought he was going mad because of the moon (since that's what it was doing to ppl) and left Legna. He hurt her feelings by basically calling her a baby. Since she in under 300 years old, and him being an Ancient and over 700, he thoughts that he was going mad by being seduced by Legna. Really though, he stopped because of his respect for her. Legna ends up being pissed off, and disliking Gideon for that.

What the two didn't know is that during that close call they began to Imprint onto one another as mates. The reason it took so long to realize this is because of the fact that two demons imprinting is very rare. They solidify their imprint in an electrified moment in Legna's bedroom. They basically put both of their powers into each other and practically made a circuit with their connection. His power as a body demon, in her body, and hers in his mind, as a mind demon.

Gideon has a lot of guilt over their races history, because he played a role in it and he is the only person to have done that and still be alive. Because of the amount of guilt and other emotions, Gideon had locked away his emotions centuries ago. Using his body demon powers to control his bodies response to emotions, and therefore making them not existent. When Legna and Gideon are working on their bond, Legna forces Gideon to trust her and makes him open the floodgate to his emotions. At first I didn't like Gideon's response to their bond. He just acted like it was something of interest, or something to amuse him. But once he begins to feel his feelings, he goes through a huge emotional change that really makes their connection, and Gideon himself, one to empathize with.

This story also has other characters, such as Bella and Jacob. Bella is attacked in this book. Attacked so that she will suffer before she dies, but since Legna is her best friend and was stopping by to visit, she survived.

There is a massive battlefield scene, that is pretty awesome in my opinion. Yet AGAIN, Jacob is knocked unconscious during the battle. That's making me laugh, since he's suppose to be a great fighter and powerful demon, yet he keeps getting his ass kicked. Only one fight that I can think of he stayed away for the entire time. LOL.

There's a new alliance being worked, involving the Lycanthrope Queen, Siena, and possibly the Vamps.

There is a kidnapping, and a semi-stealthy rescue. Women only. :P

I really enjoyed this book, it had depth, a real story, and a playfulness. Along with Gideon re-learning his emotions, this book was an excellent ride.

If I forgot anything, that would make me mad since this isn't even as good as my first review that I lost with my laptop battery dying earlier.

Well it did keep me reading, but there were moments that made me a tad twitchy. I'm not sure that the attack on the necromancers and their allies won't make the opposition dig their heels in and call the demons and their allies more inhumane. Condemning unthinking killing while also killing unthinkingly is the same thing. The relationship between Gideon and Magdaelegna was interesting but it just didn't convince me that well. I wanted it to work but I also wanted it to work better. There were times when I found it quite convincing but there were also times that it just didn't gel for me. Still it was interesting it was just in retrospect that I started asking about it.Enjoyable but has some issues.

This review can also be found on my blog.

Gideon is the oldest member of his race. He's their healer as well as a battle-seasoned warrior with nearly a thousand years of knowledge, power and wisdom. Nine years ago, this powerful Demon nearly succumbed to the Moon madness that plagues his people. A near intimate encounter with Magdalegna, sister to Noah, left him horrified at his lack of self control. When Jacob the Enforcer meted out his punishment, Gideon exiled himself for the next nine years. He came out of his self-imposed exile in the last book, Jacob, when Jacob was badly injured by a Necromancer. He has since taken over the care of Bella and her unborn child. His frequent presence also means he has to face Legna again. Together they discover that they are destined to be mated. That would be a wonderful thing if it weren't for the fact that Legna is still mad at Gideon for rejecting her nearly a decade ago.

Another great, action-packed story. Gideon was a wonderful character to get to know better. He's also the most complex one. He's incredibly blunt and honest – he doesn't mince words. He just tells things the way they are, which understandably isn't always welcome to those much younger than him and more well versed in typical human behavior and vernacular. He has powers that not even his closest confidants know of. He prides himself on the stranglehold he has on his emotions, but he finds them sorely tested where Legna is concerned.

Legna surprised me, but in a good way. As Noah's sister, she's lead a sheltered life. Since her kidnapping and subsequent rescue from the Necromancers, she's noticed some changes in her. Her powers have become stronger. Gideon notices this too and while examining her, they discover the dormant passion and a connection to each other that they have denied all this time. She makes a gradual change from pampered Princess to a formidable fighter.

A brutal and vicious attack on Bella and the kidnapping of Corrine means war. The Demons seek out their allies, Damien the vampire prince and Siena, Queen of the Lycanthropes. Together they set out to rescue Corrine and set a trap for the Necromancers and the Demon traitors in their midst.

Unlike with Jacob and Bella, the burn between Gideon and Legna is a slow one, but no less impressive and powerful. He was awfully cute with her. He has never deemed himself worthy of her, and his dampened emotions cause Legna to take things slowly with him. I thought that was so sweet. He's incredibly caring and gentle, and when a lover says "I want to crawl into you" ... let's just say that Gideon possesses the ability to do just that *winks cheekily*.

Magdalegna is the Demon King’s youngest sister. When their parents died when Legna was very young he raised her and protected her. Now that Legna has Imprinted with the oldest male of their kind, a man of great power, one who is held in awe and some fear, Gideon, the King has to learn to let her go because an Imprinting cannot be denied.Well-written, smooth-flowing, excellent plot and a continuation of my enjoyment of the interesting characters inhabiting this world, 'Gideon' is an excellent second installment in the Nightwalker series. My only complaint, and it’s a small one, is that there was a tendency of repetition reminiscent of Christine Feehan in her Carpathian series. Not a lot of repetition, but enough to be noticeable. I hope Ms Frank doesn’t get into that habit because while I enjoy the Carpathians, that level of repetition does make one weary. So far, it’s not that bad in the Nightwalker series.I look forward to continuing with Book 3, 'Elijah'. From the description it sounds like it’s going to be an excellent one!

Okay I think I originally wrote my review when I was in a bad mood. It happens, am I right? I did enjoy this book more than originally I thought I did because it keeps coming back to me, and I am going to continue with the series after all.

I'll sum up the quality of the writing with this quote from page 190 "He manipulated his eyesight until he could not only see clearly in the darkness, but could see at any distance he wished." Yeah, he and Steve Austin could be great buds.I liked the first in the series because it was an interesting paranormal society and a bit of decent sex. This book doesn't explore the society much - just a little bit of strained Demon relationships - and over half of it is flowery unconsummated sex that, I assume, was supposed to be suspenseful but was not. (Oh, and the brother-sister relationship between Noah and Legna is just plain cringe-worthy - they act more like ex-lovers than siblings.)If you liked Feehan's Dark series, you'll like this. If you like Ward's or Frost's vampire series, you'll find this particularly cheesy and the sex flowery.

Legna: Gideon, just leave me alone you dirty old man. I mean you are just so freakin' OLD! Dude! You're like a THOUSAND! And I'm just a kid. I'm only 250. You think I've ever even thought of a man in all that time? Get real. It's like May/December - no, more like March/December - no - maybe even February. I'm only like 250 freakin' years old. I haven't got a mature bone in my luscious young body you decrepit old geezer.Gideon: Ah little nubile grasshopper, you just haven't had enuff of the Gideon Experience. Wait until I impress upon your untried flesh the way of a really old man with a tender young 250-year-old maid. Legna: Gideon! You're just so freakin' OLD! And don't call me grasshopper.Gideon: What was your name again? My mind tends to wander sometimes these days.Legna: It's Legna you creaking bag of bones!Gideon: Yes...that's right. Legna. And you're mine. Mine I tell ya! Just have to wait a little bit for the Viagra to kick in and then we can get down to it.Legna: Whatever!

Gideon the Ancient is the oldest male Demon in existence. He is revered by their kind which at times makes him come off as arrogant and domineering. He is a demon of the body and can appear anywhere as a hologram (think Star Trek) that he is needed - which comes in quite handy since he is also the proverbial "medicine man" for his kind.Magdalegna is the Demon King's youngest sister. Although still considered young (only 250 years old), she has always had a thing for "older man" Gideon. But she has loved him from afar for near a decade - about 9 years ago, Gideon spurned her advances, insulting her terribly and landing him in isolation for the remainder of that time. But due to some unforeseen circumstances (Book 1), he is now back in Magdalegna's life and he will not stop himself from getting what he wants this time.Sadly, I really didn't get Gideon. I don't mean the book - I mean the demon. He fell flat for me. I really liked Magdalegna - she had this elegant and diplomatic charm to her. She was fierce and protective and she definitely knew how to stand her ground. But Gideon was just too blah for me. I really didn't like that he treated her as a child (although he did get over that quickly enough) and also the fact that he has silver hair - I just couldn't get the picture of him as an old man out of my mind. This one did not have as much action as Jacob did, and it did have a lot of repetition in the beginning (to get you up to speed if you didn't read the first book in the series). I did enjoy that Bella and Jacob were once again in the mix of it all and I also enjoyed the introductions to a few new characters (i.e. Siena the Lycanthrope Queen and Damien the Vampire Prince). All in all, it was a bit mediocre for me, but not unbearable. I definitely am intrigued and really like the Nightwalker world Ms. Frank has created.

This is the second book in Jacquelyn Frank's series Nightwalkers. Gideon has been somewhat a mystery so I was happy to find out about him in this book. He seemed so cold and unfeeling in the first book, but in this book Frank's really lets you see his personality. He has a volitile relationship with Legna but during the course of the book all that changes and you see Gideon as a hugely different type of character. He is warm, caring and sexy! The plot in this book is about the characters fighting deadly necromancers. It can be explosive in some areas which makes for an exciting read. I again love J. Frank's writing style and the way she brings to life these individual characters. Definately a good read for paranormal/romance lovers.

I did read the first in this series, Jacob, and felt it was a decent start to a new series. So, when I found a cheap used copy of this one, I figured what the heck?Ugh, I wish I hadn't bothered. I didn't even finish it, and I just don't NOT finish a book. It's only happened less than a handful of times.I felt like it took way too long to get to the story for this book. It seemed like a quarter of the book was spent rehashing the first one. And not even creatively. The dialogue felt so forced and obvious, I thought I was reading a bad Soap Opera's script or something. I got more than half way through it, and never once could connect to the main characters. Or, should I say, who the main characters are supposed to be. There's so much involving other characters, I felt Gideon and Legna, were almost side story. Not sure if I could make myself read the next one. But who knows... I can be a glutton for punishment.

Really dissappointed in story after reading "Jacob". The coupling of Gideon and Magdelegna was very dragged out and boring. Could not get myself to finish reading the book.

Gideon is a centuries old demon dedicated to the care and healing of his people. As ancient as he is with the weight of past deeds and ages old guilt he has forsworn emotion so he could dedicate himself to his calling. Magedlina is the beloved sister of the Prince of the demon people and an empath of remarkable power. Spurrned by Gideon years before she had made a point to avoid the mystic healer at all costs. However, destiny has other ideas in store and in a moment of passion Gideon and Madelina are bound together, imprinted so that no one can ever come between them.I thought this book was very good, in spurts. Although I like the Nightwalker universe Ms. Frank has built up and enjoyed the first novel, Jacob, very much this one, unfortunately, seemed to drag quite a bit. There seemed to be a great deal of re-hashing of ideas, feelings and language throughout the story which simply became a little tiresome for me. Usually I really enjoy concentration on the thoughts and feelings of the hero and heroine, in this romance I really enjoyed the action sequences a bit better. Although I had a bit of a hard time getting through the story I still intend to give the next volume of this series a shot.

it was suprisingly delightful. Although the beginning wasn't very exciting and the main characters were a bit too dramatic. but it began to pick up speed and the battle scene was well written. looking forward to reading elijah's story.
