*spoilers*This is a fairly good book about a baby panda that gets stolen right before the opening of the new panda exhibit. Three friends try to solve the mystery before midnight, which is when the ransom note said a million dollars was due. The children do a fairly good job of asking the three suspects questions, but are still trying to figure things out when the real culprit traps them in a coal room below the fitness gym. It's the same place that the panda-napper kept the baby panda, Winnie, so when the kids figure out how to get out and one of them goes to the police, they are able to get the panda back to the exhibit and the culprit was caught. I thought it was a fairly predictable book, I knew who the culprit was long before he trapped them, but I liked the writing.

This is a realistic fiction book. This book is about three kids who are at the opening of a panda exhibit at their local petting zoo. When the zoo owners go to bring out the baby panda, they discover that it is missing and in its place is a ransom note asking for one million dollars in exchange for the panda. Ruth, Josh and Dink set off to interview who the three people they think have something to do with it, and fidn the missing baby panda.

In this book, a baby panda named Winnie is kidnapped from the zoo and is held ransom for one million dollars. Three children decide to take it upon themselves to find Winnie before the deadline at midnight. I really liked this mystery book. The author does a phenomenal job of manipulating the reader's predictions of who the culprit might be. For example, the names of two suspects were Irene "Napper" and Tom "Steele" seemed like a foreshadowing tactic. Also the ending reveal that the thief was the character that was least expected. This character was described to be loyal, friendly, and caring but at the end the all of the clues came forward and made it clear. The big idea of this book is that it is important to consider all aspect of a story before making conclusions about a character. The reader may have made assumptions based off of the obvious details before considering the small but more significant details that develop a character.

I liked it because it was about pandas. A guy stole a baby panda, that was named Winnie.
