About this audiobook

In Obsession, John Douglas once again takes us fascinatingly behind the scenes, focusing his expertise on predatory crimes, primarily against women. With a deep sense of compassion for the victims and an uncanny understanding of the perpetrators, Douglas looks at the obsessions that lead to rape, stalking, and sexual murder through such cases as Ronnie Shelton, the serial rapist who terrorized Cleveland; and New York's notorious "Preppie Murder."

But Douglas also looks at obsession on the other side of the moral spectrum: his own career-long obsession with hunting these predators. Douglas shows us how we can all fight back and protect ourselves, our families, and loved ones against the scourge of the violent predators in our midst.

The first step is insight and understanding, and no one is better qualified to penetrate Obsession than John Douglas.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book...interesting and riveted because from this remarkable profiler, John Douglas, he has quite the perepective. The cases that were discussed in the book were cases I found interesting when they were actually going on. I also like it that the co-writers have tips and help-lines to help just in case you were faced with situations such as this. I only wish the book was longer!

Very interesting book. What I like about this book is that while it does tell about various criminals, sexual predators, etc; it also tells how to protect yourself and what to look for. Something everybody should know.

Very important book. These issues need to be taken out of the salacious shadows they fester in. Victims need knowledge & rights before they are damaged irretrievably through ignorance of the abiding depravity of their violent perpetrators. Knowing warning signs, patterns, signatures and MOs does not mean paranoiad living- it can mean one's own or a friend's life saved. A safer society by logically acting on researched, documented studies on behavior. ~ A realistic appraisal of operational underlying issues can save lives & bring justice & hopefully peace swifter as we, as a society realize the threats, danger & pain can be extremely more dark than the mask employed to cover them may indicate. We need to be educated and aware, so that Juries can be more insightful as they contemplate the evidence they are allowed to know about.

I wanted explanations, prevention strategies and of course the evidence to back them up. This book gives it all. This is a proffesional insight not a crime writer's hypothsis. It should rank up with other safety guides and victim advocate's books like Lundy Bancroft's Why Does He Do That and Gavin Debecker's The Gift of Fear. Everyone, but especially women and young teenaged girls should be reading this and memorizing the lessons. It's informative, indepth and analytical (but layman friendly) psychologically empowering and just such a needed resource in a world that teaches predatory behaviors are acceptable.... Great resource! One of the best for sure!

I think that high school kids 11th and 12th grade should have to listen to this.

Pioneer FBI profiler Douglas discusses some of the crimes he has investigated and lobbies for victims’ rights and the death penalty. While the cases discussed and the methods used to profile the criminals are fascinating, the writing is so dry and boring that it was nearly impossible for me to retain my interest.
