Connor Buchanan has lived for almost 500 years, and believes that his friends are all fools to have fallen in love like they have, because Connor has only known pain when it comes to loving someone. Then desperate to kill their enemy, he comes across someone that would change his life and his heart, Marielle. Marielle is a angel that has been cast down from heaven, after disobeying trying to only doing the right thing, now without her wings or all that is known to her, she feels lost and confused, but one man has protected her...Connor. Marielle knows inside his heart and the pain he feels and trying to help heal him, so ends up feeling yearning for him and love...and wonders what she would sacrifice to keep him in her life...even if that means giving up returning home.Vampire Mine is the tenth installment in the Love At Stake Series by Kerrelyn Sparks. Vampire Mine was a pure delight, and had me thirsting for more after each page. Ever since I started reading this series, I have looked forward to when Connor would make his downfall to love, and Kerrelyn Sparks didn't disappoint....I just fell in love with Marielle, she had such a innocence about her, very curious about everything (which was hilarious at times) that you couldn't help but like her. Connor is very rough around the edges, but in this story we see a different side of him, a side that Marielle brings out in him. Vampire Mine was such a endearing read, and one of my favorite romances to read. The story was filled with adventure, witty interaction, passion and a tender love story that will leave you breathless. Definitely a jewel you don't want to miss out on. I Loved it!!

Omg! That last chapter esp. The last few pages were intense and awesome! No spoiler alert here... I love this book just a smidge more than the last one.. But as that had been true for each book in this series, thus the lack of a spoiler. Lol

A grand plan created by God and his ever present love and forgiveness. An angel who disobeys meets a vampire who also disobeys and all hell breaks loose as these two unite to defeat their common enemy. One wishing to rejoin those in heaven, the other for redemption - this book is definitely a win win.

This book made me laugh. And laugh. And laugh. From the moment our intrepid hero Roman, a five hundred and forty-four year old former monk turned vampire, gets his teeth stuck in a sex toy ( a lifesized doll ) in the first chapter and snaps off a fang, forcing him to lisp his swear words- "'Thit! 'Thit!"--I knew this was going to be a fun ride. And giving him a dentist with a fear of blood as his lady love was a wonderful touch. He's such a martyr, sitting around drinking garlic juice and his "harem" of lady vampires are a hoot too. The first in a series, I already have No. 5 on my bookshelf and will be reading it soon. I can see the fact that they didn't address the main problem with vampire/mortal couples-i.e. the woman will grow old and die, as being a bit odd, but the novel was aiming for funny, and we've all had our share of the Angel/Buffy concept in the past.

or my #11 challenge (Read a Series Book), I read How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks. This is Love at Stake Series Book 1. Roman Draganesti is a vampire with a problem: he lost a fang biting something he shouldn't. Now he has one night to reimplant his fang before his healing abilities take over, leaving him a lopsided eater for all eternity.Shanna Whelan is a dentist with a problem: she is a dentist with a fear of blood. After she witnesses a gruesome murder, she's also on the run from the Russian mob. When Roman rescues her from an attempt on her life, she wonders if she's found the one man who can protect her.Although the attraction between them is immediate and hot, can Shanna overcome her fear of blood to reimplant Roman's fang? And once she does, can she stay alive long enough to outwit an insane Russian vampire assassin bent on her destruction. I liked this paranormal romance and give it a B+!

My Thoughts...Shanna is in the witness protection programme after witnessing a murder by the Russian mafia and is living a quiet life as Jane Wilson, nighttime dentist. Not exactly the best shift going, but it suits Shanna. Why? Because of her growing fear of the sight of blood. So with near to no patients or visitors, well except for the local pizza delivery boy, Shanna is understandably surprised when she gets a visit from Roman Draganesti.Roman is your average scientist, he works long nights, rarely leaves the lab, constantly thinking of the next big thing and did I mention he’s also a vampire? A mishap, involving a very interesting artificial source of feeding, has left Roman one fang missing. Something he needs to rectify before the sun comes up. Otherwise he’ll be only eating through one side of his mouth, not very good for a vampire. So when he finds SoHo SoBright Dental Clinic is one twenty-four-seven Roman believes he’s stumbled on the solution to his little problem. What he doesn’t expect is to walk in on a mafia hit resulting in him rescuing his dentist from danger, and ultimately falling in love.As soon as I saw the title for this book I knew it would end up on my TBR pile. How could you pass a title like ‘How To Marry A Millionaire Vampire’?I must admit, I think I had too high expectations for this book, thus resulting in its three out of five review. How To Marry A Millionaire is a lighthearted romantic/comedy approach to the vampire legend. The events resulting in the loss of Roman’s fang did have me giggling. The world of the vampires in Sparks’ novel is an underground movement, which the humans of the world are blissfully unaware of. Roman is leading a movement of decadent synthetic blood (blood taste tests are the norm) against a group of rebel vampires who believe blood from the source is still the best and refuse any imitation. They also have their own TV station, digital though, as it’s the only way to capture a vampire’s image!Things felt a little too neat when it came to wrapping up Roman and Shanna’s relationship. Towards the end of the book I was wondering when things would start to wrap up and was a little disappointed when it was done in the last couple of pages pretty promptly.Final Thoughts…Though I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I thought I would, it hasn’t put me off the series as a whole. Despite it’s shaky roots, I did enjoy the book. Though some things were resolved very neatly without explanation, I’m hoping they’ll be resolved in further books.

I have one major gripe about this book...The author acts as if it's happily ever after, but it's not. Firstly, she never wants to be changed over. This means she'll grow old and die while he remains forever young. Maybe she'll change her mind when she gets older and then she'll be labeled a "cougar" for eternity. What about children? Will she let him change them over? Will he have to watch them die, too? I have no idea why this is important to me, but it is. And it wasn't resolved which was annoying, to say the least.I'll probably read other things by this author, but this was a bit of a disappointment after the lovely hopes the premise had given me (dentist afraid of blood must fix vampire's detached fang).

Nothing very special. Maybe I will read next book in series, but I do not have that yearning that stays after good book that you have to find out what happens to the characters right now.
I liked the glimpses of vampire world. Like different kinds of blood or vampire television. When Roman confused name of that tv reporter with fake breasts, was one of the only scenes that was really funny to me.
Also some side characters were very interesting to me. Scottish bodyguards are very cute. And Roman's harem has some interesting characters, I am interested to learn their stories. Probably they will be told in some next book.
All in all, everything seems more interesting than main characters and their love story. Roman is somehow not very attractive too me. Whole tortured ex-monk thing was just annoying me...

*Minor Spoilers*The beginning of this novel was great and pretty funny. My favorite scene was at the beginning when Roman bit into a blood-filled sex doll and broke a fang. As it went on, I found Shanna to be an annoying heroine and Roman to be an easily forgettable love interest. The Highlanders were probably the most interesting characters in the book. Shanna cries a lot in this novel and it took her a long time to accept the fact that vampires exist. And she can't seem to decide who to trust and whose side she should be on. Roman would have been a better character if he didn't use the phrase "God's blood" in every other sentence. The vampire mythology in this book is not very original nor is it really explained. I assumed the author was just using the normal vampire stereotypes. This book was a little boring and unoriginal. It was easy to read, but I found myself wanting to put it down quite often.

Roman was a sixteenth century monk before he became a vampire. In the ensuing five hundred years, he has remained pretty monkish: trying to make the world a better place, and dedicating himself to the science of healing. Which is how he came to invent synthetic blood, which is how he became a corporate magnate, which is how he became filthy rich. Yes, he is kind of a broody, despairing vampire; but he is broody like a monk with a hairshirt. There's no actual bad behavior, just lots and lots of hating himself.

The synthetic blood was invented 18 years before the opening of "How to Marry..." and since then, Roman hasn't bitten a single living thing. He loses his tooth when he tests out a blood-filled suck-toy (in the form of a naked woman); it's been so long since he used his fangs that one just falls out.

Shanna is pretty uptight. She's in the witness protection program because she witnessed a mob hit and testified against the killers. She accepts Roman's help because it's better than being knocked off by the Russian mafia, but she hates it every step of the way. Shanna is constantly finding reasons to accuse this painfully moral vampire of aiding her for various nefarious purposes; and then, once she can't keep believing that he is evil, she moans and groans about how a relationship with a vampire will never work. In the process, she helps reinforce all of Roman's self-loathing issues.

Shanna insists from the beginning that what she wants is a normal life - a normal job, a normal husband, a big house with a white picket fence, and a dog. And she is unwilling to deviate from this image, or reconsider it. She can honestly be standing right in front of Roman (nice, hunky, madly in love with her, a scientific genius, a CEO) and complain that he is not a normal man who lives in a suburban detached home.

Frankly, I hated Shanna. I thought she was awful. She is selfish, inconsiderate, and hurtful. She is prissy and moralizing. She makes Roman beg for her attention, and it was painful to read scene after scene where she makes him grovel and abase himself in order to win her good graces.

I don't have any opinion on whether this book is objectively good or bad. My personal reaction to it was much too negative.

During summer when I am off work I read more and faster than the UPS guy can bring me new reads. I picked up this book on a whim (desperation?) and kicked myself later for my weakness.I suppose I could call this a fresh twist on a tired plot??? Nope. Not even. I found the heroine to be selfish, inconsiderate, and hurtful. She is prissy and moralizing. She makes Roman beg for her attention, and it was painful to read scene after scene where she makes him grovel and abase himself in order to win her good graces. This was a good book which held my interest throughout. I look forward to the follow-up, Vamps in the City. I'm interested to see how things turn out with Shanna and Roman, and where Shanna's dad and the rest of the Stake-Out crew from the CIA fall into play.

I do not know if this book breaks new ground in the vampire myth or not. I do know that it had something I had not seen: A God forgiven vampire. Good love story; just enough sex without going on and on. I bet we see more of the conflict with the mortal father.

He's Roman Draganesti, and he's trying to develop an artifical blood product, because he's a vampire and he hates the fact that the bloodlust can kill people. When testing a new product he breaks a tooth. He finds Shanna Whelan, a late night dentist afraid of blood. He's attracted to her and curious about her because she's not so succeptable to his power. There also seems to be someone trying to kill her. It's a slight, pretty typical vampire novel but is very readable and drags you along for an enjoyable ride.

CRIED!!! So sad, so heart wrenching, so good! I love the introduction of Angels and Demons to the series as well! Connor's inner struggle has had me scratching my head for books now, so it was great to hear his story finally. And Marielle is just a great addition to the stories, I hope I hear more about them both. Also, Phineas...has he moved on from LaToya??? I'm very curious about this!

It makes me happy to see Connor fallen at last :) Anyway, I was incredibly happy with this book, it felt so much like the first few books in the series. I didn't want to stop reading, I laughed out loud a lot, and I just adored all the characters. About half way through I figured out that missed a book in the series, I am going to go back and read it, the book was still very understandable but there were a couple of characters here and there that I didn't know.
I liked how neat and precise the plot in this book was. I also like how she kept her lore consistent and tight. If she hadn't this book would have been bad. I am sad/and not sad to say we lose a couple of people in this book. I won't share who, but *moment of silence* for a strong wonderful character that has been with us a few books.
I will, as always, continue to read this series and support Kerrelyn Sparks, she is amazing, imaginative, and I can't wait to see what is going to happen with a huge vacancy in the books she now needs to fill.

I enjoyed this book even if it was a little different then her other books in the series. Though there was some humor this book had fewer light moments. I will continue to read this series because I enjoy the personalities Kerrelyn Sparks has chosen for each of the characters.

Enjoyable action packed story in this series of vampires, shifters and now an angel. Angel Marielle wants to return to heaven and vampire Connor has a dark secret so feels unworthy. A bit predictable but surprising developments of characters from earlier books that I always like to see.

This book is the first one that I read in the series and I am now reading the back list! I had heard a lot about the Love at Stake Series but as I am not that fond of Paranormal Romance, I decided to skip it. However, I met Kerrelyn Sparks at the RT Booklovers Book Fair in Los Angeles in April and I got a signed copy of this book just for the heck of it.

I started reading this when I got home and I could not put it down! I enjoyed the sparks that flew between Connor and Marielle! And just imagine my surprise when I read that Marielle was a Fallen Angel and she was falling in love with a Vampire!

I did cringe at some parts where I thought the curse words were inappropriate especially when they were said in front of Marielle. However, I guess I could excuse this because Connor is a vampire? *shrugs* I did like how the author weaved in a few positive spiritual elements all throughout the story however, I thought the sex scene between Connor and Marielle was a bit awkward or I just felt awkward reading that part. I guess I was just thinking how unlikely an Angel and a Vampire having sex is.

Another element that I love about this book is the way the previous characters were weaved into the story. I love reading about the other characters and now that I am reading the back list, I am appreciating this even more.

It was cute in the end. I little religious for my taste but it had fun points and a sweet romance. I still think the bad guys and the good guys are idiotic. I really don't think Kerrelyn Sparks has very good fight scenes and complicated battle strategies but that is not why I read these. The first that ended better than it started.

I want to give it a 3 1/2 stars as it really is right in between and cannot pick a direction to go. I'll decide later after looking back in a couple of days.

I really wanted to love this book. It had two of my favorite things, vampires and angels. I liked Marielle, she was innocent and ignorant of the human world, but in a believable way. Things we take for granted she knew nothing about: bathrooms, clothing, microwaves. She reminded me of Cormia from Lover Enshrined, but less annoying. She was willing to fight her way back to heaven. Connor, gosh what can I say about Connor that's positive. He was the reason I disliked the book so much. Running around, in modern times, in a kilt? Why would you not addapt to the present? I didn't find that too sexy. Kilts belong on warriors in the midevil period. He was full of remorse for his past but I didn't feel it. It was just stated that he was "full of remorse". There should have been some great sexual tension because they "could not become one" if Marielle wanted to get back to heaven, but nothing just his eyes turning red a few times. This was light and fluffy, nothing too intense.

[Vampire Mine] by Kerrelyn Sparks 369 pages 4 starsVampire Mine is the story of Conner and Marielle an angel from heaven. Conner is the one in the Vamp group that doesn't understand why his friends are getting married to mortal women. This book has a lot of changes in it. It feels like it could be the end of the series. A good story though.

I am an Urban Fantasy devotee. I don't mind a little bit of romance, but I don't read a lot of novels where the romance is the most prominent aspect of the story. That said, there are a few paranormal romances that I really enjoy. Kresley Cole's "Immortals After Dark" series is one of those. Kerrlyn Spark's fantastic "Love At Stake" series is another. Not only do I buy each of these when they are released, but I have noticed that they quickly fly past many of my Urban Fantasy's to the top of my TBR pile. Yes this series always features a man and a woman (one or both members of the couple are supernatural beings of some type) who come together by the end of the book despite odds against them. Yet, these books are filled with humor and amazing characters that somehow manage to all fell unique and different. "Vampire Mine" was no exception. Readers have been clamouring for Conner's book for a long time...and now we have it. In this volume, Conner finds himself taking care of a fallen angel named Marielle. What happened to her? What did she do that was so bad that she was tossed from heaven? Can Conner get past his self-hatred/self-pity (and that IS how it came across to this reader) and find a future with this angel, who only wants to get back to heaven? Yes, these too do get together fairly easily. I found this refreshing. Sometimes that back and forth interplay gets old very quickly. Marielle is adorable. I really liked her and I think she is going to prove to be a great addition to this world. Conner is more fleshed out then I have seen previously and I enjoyed his back story a great deal. We see major plot story progression here involving a big change for Roman and Shanna and their family. We find out there are some new babies due for several of our previous book's starring couples. And Casimir, or dear. The good vamps hunt for the Malcontent (evil) vamps has been an ongoing thread since the first book. That story is hugely wrapped up by the end of "Vampire Mine". There is a new thread that is left dangeling and we are sure to have more adventures to come. There are several complaints that this story wrapped up too easily and while I can see where these points are coming from, I was just really glad to see the story progress in this new way. It was time for something to happen or that particular plot line was going to sour. Overall I am very pleased with the newest installment and look forward to everything the future brings to the "Love At Stake" series.
