About this audiobook

National bestselling author Sylvain Reynard continues the story of Gabriel and Julia, two lovers bound together by their darkest desires.

But those very desires may destroy them . . .

Professor Gabriel Emerson has embarked on a passionate, yet clandestine affair with his former student Julia Mitchell. Sequestered on a romantic holiday in Italy, he tutors her in the sensual delights of the body and the raptures of sex.

But when they return, their happiness is threatened by conspiring students, academic politics, and a jealous ex-lover. When Gabriel is confronted by the university administration, will he succumb to Dante's fate? Or will he fight to keep Julia, his Beatrice, forever?

In Gabriel's Rapture, the brilliant sequel to the wildly successful debut novel, Gabriel's Inferno, Sylvain Reynard weaves an exquisite love story that will touch the reader's mind, body, and soul, forever.

After "Gabriel's inferno" I was anxious to know what would happen with this modern Mr. Rochester and his bright pupil, Julianne. The first book ended with their relationship finally consummated, even though the world was already conspiring to separate them.I picked up "Gabriel's rapture" with high expectations and I wasn't disappointed, in fact, the only problem is that I'll have to wait God knows how long for the final instalment of the series. In this second book, Gabriel and Julianne have finally succumbed to their mutual attraction and share their love in secret. But Gabriel's past threatens to destroy his new found peace and Julia still doubts that her love will be enough for the moody and needy professor. Will their love survive the pressures of the external world? Again, I loved the parallelism in the relationship between Dante and his beloved Beatrice and Gabriel & Julia's. The continuous references to Florence and Italian Art in general make the setting of the story elegant and sophisticated, and the combination of modern and classic give the book a special atmosphere difficult to equal, it reads like a classic in the modern world, and that for me, is fantastic. And the characters' evolution, especially Gabriel, are awesomely well threaded and accurate, making the whole novel a delightful treat for all your senses. Pick up this book together with a glass of red wine or maybe with some chocolate, and you'll know what I mean.Pleasure. For all your senses.Enjoy!

Gabriel and Julianne are back for the continuation of their love story. Gabriel's Rapture picks up right where Gabriel's Inferno left off at. Julia and the Professor are in Italy moving forward in their relationship. their relationship is anything but conventional. Julia is shy, timid and self conscious. that is to be expected especially after her time with her mom and her stint with slimy Simon. You would think though that she would be able to get through most of her vices being with Gabriel. He tells her all the time that she is beautiful, he loves and would go to hell and back for her. Maybe some wounds run too deep.Gabriel is the opposite of Julia. He is opinionated, blunt and unconscious of things. He has a hard time showing affection towards people but Julia changed him. He is not the hardened man he once was. Julia softened him a bit. His troubled past with his real parents and then his painful relationship with Paulina made him emotionless. But meeting Julia years ago seemed to have opened him up to something he didn't think he wanted nor could have. Then seeing her again years later just confirmed what he wanted.Their love is a tragic yet beautiful one. In GR we learn that the past was never truly behind them. Having never really dealt with it only in passing, it creeps in and haunts their everyday existence. In this book Julia allows that to happen the most. She worries that she is not up to par for Gabriel, but if that was the case wouldn't he have tossed her aside long ago? Julia annoys me in the beginning of this book. With her constant needing of reassurance and then she always gets mad at Gabriel because of his past lovers. Past is the operative word in the sentence. That means that she is his present and future. What he did before Julia shouldn't hinder his relationship now. So when Crista comes into the picture again and throws a wrench into things, it's not surprising that Julia takes it all wrong. Gabriel and Julia have to both learn to trust in order to get back what they had and move on.I love the author's writing. She does a good job in telling this love story. The story is complex and refined yet simple at the same time. The storyline is not as alluring as it was in the first book. It is a repeating of the same thing by that main characters which is their insecurities in each other. Then there was Christa's character's who didn't interact with Gabriel or Julia but she makes a big impact. This part of the story seems so misplaced since she doesn't talk to them in this installment. I think it would have made more sense if she had spoken to them instead of through a third party. While I am a fan of the author's and I liked the book I did dislike some of it. That some of it namely is Julia. She is whiny and needy in this book. I expected in in GI. She was new to everything and was getting to know Gabriel again. In GR why is she still so whinny? If it was any other man he would have dumped her and moved on but Gabriel loves her. I wish that the author had toned down her neediness in this book. It would have made it much better.Overall thoughts of this book are that I still love the series. This story didn't exactly live up to my expectations and I was a little disappointed in this one. I wished that it was a better storyline. It grab me like Gabriel's Inferno did. was happy that the author wrapped the story up with a great finish.I received this book courtesy of Edelweiss and the publisher for review.

If there is one thing that Professor Emerson is good at, it is wooing his one and only Julianne. By golly, this book shows just how deep his love is for her. It starts out with their vacation in Italy. Now that they are free from the policies of the university, they can express their love openly to each other, and they take full advantage of that. They experience the culture, partake in its culinary delights, and most importantly take each other as lovers. How Gabriel shows Julia the art of a relationship blew my mind. To take a soul like his, torn to bits from his past and see how he has grown with Julia’s love to where he can be so soft and gentle with her. Truly brilliant writing. But with the good comes the bad and boy does Sylvain Reynard bring just that. The university is evaluating their relationship and this is where the book tears at your soul. Since Julia and Gabriel union in the first book, they have been this united force that sticks together through thick and thin (even though they have their fights.) Through friends and family who disapproved of their relationship, through crazy exes, and through each other’s tormented pasts. As a reader I thought nothing could rip them apart. But when the university meeting came and the emotions and actions were revealed, oh, my heart couldn’t take it. However, during this time after the meeting, you find that you learn a lot more about the characters. For Gabriel, you find that there is true love that can live in his heart and goodness that can come from what harbors there. For Julia, you find that she can stand on her own two feet and stand up for herself. She doesn’t always need protection from someone else.Just remember when you read this wonderfully written book that Gabriel does state that he would go to Hell and back for Julia and that nothing could keep him away from her. Brilliant story paired with wonderful writing makes this a great sequel. Read it.~BookWhisperer Reviewer MC~

Gabriel's Rapture is the sequel to Gabriel's Inferno. If you haven't read the first book this will contain spoilers. The story line picks up where the last book left off. Gabriel and Julia have finally taken their relationship to the next level. Gabriel and Julia are in Italy and it's the perfect back drop to their love affair. Julia feels as if she is in some sort of dream because she is so happy.Their bubble gets burst when a student of Gabriel's sets out to not only ruin him but Julia also. Gabriel and Julia's love is tested by constant problems that keep arising. It seems that the universe doesn't want them to be together. After I finished Gabriel's Inferno, I started to read this book. I couldn't get enough of the characters and I wanted to find out what would happen next. Gabriel's arrogance has finally caught up with him. He has made some bad choices and now he has to face the consequences. The cost of these consequences could force him to lose everything, including Julia. Julia wants desperately to protect Gabriel. Her character has developed a lot since the beginning. She no longer is the shy girl from the beginning. She has found her strength and is not afraid to use it. The only thing she's afraid of is losing Gabriel.Gabriel's Rapture is a great sequel. The characters go through a lot in this book. At times I cringed at the decisions that they made. Gabriel's characters has grown a lot also. He is finally forced to deal with his actions and to face his inner demons. This is the perfect conclusion to this series however, I didn't want it to end.

So-So. I really wanted to read this novel after Gabriel's Inferno and find out how things transpired between Gabriel and Julianne. The novel picks up directly after the first one, the morning after they arrive in Italy. Julia and Gabriel spend two glorious weeks in Italy, where they grow to love each other more and more. Once they return to Toronto however, things take a downward spiral. Not only is Christa using all her tricks to try and sabotage Gabriel and Julia's relationship, she is now aiming to have Gabriel fired and make sure that Julia never attains her dreams of going to Harvard and becoming a future professor. On top of that, Gabriel must contend with Paulina, the mother of his child and former drug addict/girlfriend. To save Julia, Gabriel must sacrifice what he holds most dear and hope that Julia will forgive him...What I Liked: Hmmmm I liked that Sylvain Reynard added another layer of obstacles for Julia and Gabriel to overcome as well as made his sacrifice so great and so painful, not only for himself, but for Julia and everyone around them: Paul, Tom, Rachel, Scott. The novel was very, very sweet and the love Gabriel gives Julia is a love that only appears once in a lifetime and is a love of legendary proportions. What I Didn't Like: Julia...seriously?? Give the man some credit! Stop crying about yourself and your troubles and cut Gabriel some slack. Sheesh! Everything Gabriel does, he does for the betterment of Julia and her future and he tells her that All.The.TIME! So it's not too hard to infer that Gabriel had to make sacrifices to ensure that Julia could make her dreams come true. Julia should have been way more grateful for what Gabriel did for her rather than going on and on about being equals in the relationship and making her own decisions and errors. And Gabriel even asked her later, along the lines of 'would you have let me do it if you knew?' and she said no. Good Lord. Julia, be grateful for such a wonderful man.I didn't have as strong of an emotional attachment to this one unfortunately, so I give it 3.5 stars.

4.5 starsReviewed by IvyD for Manic ReadersGABRIEL’S RAPTURE picks up precisely where GABRIEL’S INFERNO left off. Anyone who read GABRIEL’S INFERNO has to know there would be major repercussions. Gabriel and Julia were walking a fine line with the University’s non-fraternization policy and don’t forget Gabriel’s past. Now all those worms are crawling out of the woodwork in the most vindictive, vicious, and destructive ways possible.GABRIEL’S RAPTURE isn’t as dark as GABRIEL’S INFERNO. The conflict is created more by outside sources this time. The academic hearings are especially intense. Courtesy of Christa’s spite, Julia’s work and future career, as well as Gabriel’s career and tenure are on the line.Julia is known for her capacity for forgiveness and understanding. Herein lies the source of my irritation with Julia. She’s a bit naïve, yes, but she’s aware of Gabriel’s past lovers, proclivities, and Christa’s designs on him. On at least one occasion it felt like she was punishing him for a known past indiscretion. After a point, her insecurity regarding Gabriel’s past lovers was beneath her. I thought she’d matured and developed more at the end of GABRIEL’S INFERNO. After all, a man as handsome and sensuous as Gabriel wasn’t likely to make it to his age a virgin. The experience and understanding he gained was used to her advantage and satisfaction. Without Gabriel’s expertise her initiation into love making would likely have left a lot to be desired. There were times Julia seemed wise beyond her years. However, I was still disappointed that her maturity in her relations with Gabriel lagged relative to her relationships with other characters. Julia fails to believe in the changes in Gabriel after their relationship escalated to a sexual level. Instead she allows her insecurity and others’ comments to damage her and Gabriel. She doesn’t listen to what her heart and Gabriel are telling her.Gabriel as a lover whose heart, soul, body, and mind are completely engaged is transcendental. The depth and quality of emotion his love for Julia brought about made me melt. He would travel to hell and back for her. As he tells Julia about the healing effect her love has had on him the combination of words, tone, and the connection he creates with intensely intimate eye contact, all underscore the substantive change that’s taking place within him. Gabriel’s necessarily solitary journey toward self-discovery, forgiveness and redemption was one of the most rewarding and deeply emotional parts of the book. There are four (4) Greek words for love. Between GABRIEL’S INFERNO and GABRIELS’S RAPTURE Sylvain Reynard covers each of them.Agape ~ self-sacrificial love is represented by Gabriel in GABRIEL’S RAPTURE.Phileo ~ friendship love is represented by Julia, Rachel, Aaron, and other characters. Storge ~ familial love is represented by Grace, Richard, Gabriel, Julia and most of the characters with a few exceptions.Eros ~ sexual love is best represented by Gabriel and Julia. With the exception of my disappointment in and irritation with Julia, GABRIEL’S RAPTURE lived up to the standard set by GABRIEL’S INFERNO. I personally find it impossible to read a Sylvain Reynard book quickly. My measured reading isn’t because of the writing style, pacing, or flow, all of which possess a distinctive cadence, it’s due to the characters’ discussions and interactions. These often induce me to contemplate my feelings and beliefs on a myriad of questions and issues. This doesn’t include the time spent investigating songs, art, or literature to better understand the message being conveyed. I feel I come away from reading with a broader knowledge of the arts, expanded tastes, and a better understanding of my own personal beliefs. When you combine these gains with an engrossing love story you have one hell of an amazing read.
