About this audiobook
Aidan is supposed to be looking for a bride, yet his scandalous liaison with Julia is all he can think about. Hot, erotic memories of kissing her skin, falling into bed, pulling her naked body on top of his own continue to torment and tempt him. What is it about this brazen seductress that he finds so hard to resist? And how can he stop himself from falling into her bed a second time?

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Up until the last 1/3 its a bit Lady Chatterly. I found it had too much plot movement in the dialogue to hold my interest in places. However, it was a good storyline and the main characters were interesting. Secondary characters were less developed than I generally expect in this length of story.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I liked this one even better than the first in the series, The Wedding of the Season. It took two characters from the first book, Julia and Adian (the "abandoned at the altar" groom), and really brought them to life. Reading the first novel, you could definitely feel the tension between the two, and this book really makes the reader see what has gone on between the two of them, both in the distant and not-so-distant past. Julia becomes much more than Trix's embittered cousin, and Adian becomes much more human. Characters from Guhrke's other series, the Girl-Bachelors, also make cameo appearances, which adds to the fun. Can't wait to see more in this series!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I liked this one although I felt the ending and resolution to be a bit rushed. Also, I didn't buy it that after what she had been through, she could make a decision to simply change her mind and let go of all her trauma and issues so easily. I wanted more angst, I guess.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Ordinarily I love Guhrke's historicals, but it took me a while to warm up to Julie/Julia, the heroine in this Edwardian romance with a Sleeping Beauty theme. Yet by the end - I was won over. Story of a notorious divorced baroness who is keeping a secret of why she seduced a man (the Duke of Trathen, who she has known since they were 17) in order to be caught in bed with him so her sadistic husband would divorce her. After such a notorious scandal, can these two find happiness with each other or will Julia help him find a suitable bride with a scandal-free pedigree? Good story with flashbacks leading up to that fateful afternoon - what really happened that day? As good as the story was, I felt at arm's length for most of it in regard to the emotions of the hero and heroine - until the very ending. Some brief cameos from characters from her Girl Bachelor Series too.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5"Scandal of the Year" is a charming read, and a refreshing change of pace from many historical romances with its setting in early 20th century England and its forthright, sassy heroine, Julia. Readers expecting heat on the pages won't find it -- there's a lot of verbal swordplay, but the relationship between Julia and Aidan Carr spends much of the book at an arm's length. It's often a dead giveaway at the beginning who is going to end up with whom, so the fun is in the getting there, and not having the eventuality feel rushed."Scandal of the Year" stands on its own, and will please readers looking for a tamer romance or a new historical setting.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5SCANDAL OF THE YEAR by Laura Lee Guhrke is a delightful historical romance set in 1904 England. It is the second in the Abandoned at the Altar series but can be read as a stand alone. The first in the series is Wedding of the Season. It is well written with depth, details, twists and turns. It has romance, sweet sensuality, secrets, fear, love, spousal abuse, forgiveness, deceit, moving forward with ones life, and learning to leave the past behind. The hero, Aidan, is deathly, handsome, has had two broken engagements, is chivalrous, has been attracted to Julia for years, but she was a married woman and is now looking for a bride, again. The heroine, Julia, is beautiful, witty, disgraced, divorced, been abused by her ex-husband, the cousin to one of Aidan's ex-betrothed, fearful, uses wit to hide her own fears and has been attracted to Aidan for years, but was forced into marriage to another. After, Aidan is confronted by Julia concerning her debts and her need for a job. Aidan hires Julia to be his personal assistant and arrange his attendance to the society balls. He has tried not to be affected by Julia, she has caused his downfall to polite society. By naming name as her lover. This is to gain her divorce from her evil, husband. Aidan can't seem to get Julia out of his system for he believes they slept together that faithful day when Julia's husband caught them together.Aidan is determined to find Julia's secrets and broke through her rough exterior. Julia, is also attracted to Aidan for she knows he is good, kind and honest. But she has trouble in trust and letting go of her past with her abusive husband.Together, they embark on an adventure into love, honesty, romance, the true meaning of forgiveness and letting go of the past. I would highly recommend this book especially if you enjoy letting go of the past, living in the future and finding true happiness and love.
