- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Greek mythology,
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This book goes into detail about greek mythology. It talks about all the gods and goddesses of ancient Greece.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5My grandparents gave me this book when I was little, and thus began my lifelong love of Greek mythology.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was my first introduction to Greek myths back in late 1963 or 64. I almost wore out the library book. The class I am taking about fantasy states that we had our introduction to it in Fairy Tales. No I had my introduction to it in books like this.
An excellent book for children to introduce them to the Greek Myths. Maybe this is why I got my degree in Ancient Religions. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is absolutely the best book to introduce kids (or adults) to Greek mythology. The stories are short and tempered, but accurate and exciting. The illustrations are appealing. It reads in a somewhat chronological order, gives each major god or goddess his/her own page, gives the stories of all the minor gods and goddesses, and thoroughly covers each of the major heroes and his (because they are all men) adventures. I read this book to my kids and it totally turned them on to Greek mythology. They've asked me to read it to them over again, and my older daughter picks it up and reads it on her own. It reminded me of my own love of mythology as well and inspired me to delve deeper into some of my favorite myths. This is a book no household should be without!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Best of the bestest!!!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a fantastic collection on Greek myths. It begins relatively chronologically. Subsequently the myths lead wonderfully into the next. The illustrations are enticing and relevant.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I don't know how accurate the tales in this book are, but they're very fun to read. Whether you're studying for a class paper or just a fan of Greek Mythology, this book has something for everyone who enjoys they mysteries of long ago. I loved it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I had this book as a textbook when I was twelve, and I can't count the number of times I re-read it. It may seem like a little thing, but the Greek Myths do turn up in all sorts of literature, and it can be very useful to get them into your head at a young age..
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This anthology includes many Greek myths with hand-drawn illustrations to accompany them. This is a great resources to have access to in a classroom!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5When I was a child, my mother would take me to the library while she did her shopping in town. I discovered and loved this book. It sparked my imagination. When I grew up, I discovered this edition again. It still makes me smile. Any child would benefit from this book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a fabulous picture book with short stories about the Greek gods and goddesses. The short stories about the gods and goddesses make it easier to read and imagine what they were like. The details in the illustrations are magnificant they almost tell the story without the words. I have read these myths before, but without pictures and they are not as inviting as this. I believe this book would be a great asset to all classrooms.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I remember a version of this anthology being around when I was a child- many, many moons ago. A wonderful overview of the many stories and personalities of the colorful dieties that graced the top of Mount Olympus and the lands below and beneath it. Perhaps a bit much for the very young, but a good overview for the older kids. With beautiful pictures throughout, we are introduced to Hermes, Aphrodite and Mercury, and the exciting tales of Hercules as well as the woeful story of Daedulus and his overconfident son, Icarus. This is an excellent way to introduce a child to where those many new versions of the old myths came from.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book has a whole bunch of Greek Myths. I like this version because it has beautiful and pretty pictures. I like the way that some are colored in and some aren't. They look very lifelike. It includes pretty much all the Greek myths straight from the beginning and tells you the history of Greek gods.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I had this book as a textbook when I was twelve, and I can't count the number of times I re-read it. It may seem like a little thing, but the Greek Myths do turn up in all sorts of literature, and it can be very useful to get them into your head at a young age...
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book has beautiful illustrations. The stories of the God's are well written, and give a great education to the reader. Ingri, and Edgar always do a great job showing the reader accurate history with awsome pictures.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5i should first admit that i am huge geek when it comes to greek mythology. i have loved it since i first discovered it back in the first grade. this book was later given to me as a gift and i've treasured it ever since.i would recommend this book as a great starting point for not only children, but people of all ages. the stories are told in an entertaining, easy-to-follow manner and the illustrations are gorgeous. my only complaint is that the illustrations do tend to skew toward the blond hair/blue eyes aesthetic.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have owned this book as long as I can remember. It was by far my favorite book as a child.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I know it is technically for kids, but this is the greatest book on Greek mythology ever. Oh, and I like the pictures.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good "starter" book/ pre-teaching book for Greek literature lessons. Nice illustrations, too.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book holds a special place in my heart. I discovered it in the library back when I was in middle school. I had the book constantly checked out. As soon as I got to the end I would start all over again. Everyone should have a book like that.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was one of my favorite books growing up. The spine is completely broken, and it's been taped and repaired to the point where in 50 years, if it was the last copy in existence, you might get 50 cents for it ($1 if you include inflation). It's got fabulous illustrations, and the myths aren't prettied up for kids. It tells about how Zeus was a philanderer and Hera was trying to kill Heracles (ahem, Disney crap! Cough! Cough! Excuse me, I think I've got a frog in my throat...). Plus it gets all the Greek names right, and then tells you the Roman names. It's fantastic. A really good starter book for kids.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A great book for family fun. Sit by the fire and read this fantastic book of Greek Myths!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Illustrated retelling of the great Greek myths for children. The engaging drawings the D'Aulaire's are famous for make the text come alive for young readers.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is simply too good to leave out of any elementary study of myths or ancient Greek culture. The illustrations are beautiful and the text is both accessible and mature.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The book I read on Greek Mythology in Grade 2 and started my love affair with Ancient Greek History
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5There is no better book for teaching children Greek mythology. It is well written and illustrated.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5If my library were for myself alone, I would only have one book of Greek mythology: Edith Hamilton's "Mythology". But I have children, so I also want to have the D'aulaires book on my shelf. This book is a complete survey of Greek mythology, adorned with wonderfully engaging illustrations. Even though it's written for kids, it was a delight to page through and read. I would recommend it for any child's library. I may have to see about getting a copy for the campus English library, too.--J.
