- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Early days in the Sherlockian Canon as his son, August Lupa, serves as a spy in France during WW1. Characters not very well developed, particularly Lupa. He is more of a caricature than realistic,. Add a confusingly muddled plot and this series is off to an uncertain start.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I love a good mystery but this one did not cut it for me. I don’t know if it was because I had to read this book for work or if it was just the story but I found myself doing anything but reading it. I really didn’t follow where the author was going and felt like the mystery was solved on a whim. Not my cup of tea. 2.5-3?
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5My first Lescroart book. Son of Holmes has a very relaxed feel in reading. Even scenes of tension did not seem overly dramatized, felt comfortable. Comfortable as in easy and pleasurable to read. When the characters were having a meal or a drink it made me want to run to the kitchen to share in the moment. The tension was evident, not forced. The plot moved convincingly.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This has to be the poorest effort for a Holmes pastiche that it has ever been my misfortune to come across. (and that is really saying something) Only here at all because a. It was cheap and b. because I cannot refuse anything with Holmes associations. But I kid you not,it was a close run thing.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sherlock Holmes connection is made. Prologue is boring. Then book becomes okay. Illegitimate son of Sherlock Holmes. Worst feeling cover ever! Hate the sensation of touching it.
