Honey and Trixie and Miss Trask head to upstate New York, where the girls knew Jim was going to go job hunting at a boys' summer camp. Along the way they hear about trailer thieves and are extra cautious. One of their neighbors, the Lynches, had their red trailer the Robin stolen, and Trixie is sure the strange family they saw in the red trailer are the thieves. This book is actually pretty funny, at one point I think they were looking for four or five different people who were supposedly hiding out in the woods. It reminded me of a Perry Mason book I read where there were like ten people in this man's swimming pool one night (all at different times, of course). The dogs were forever running off and getting lost and the girls spent a heck of a lot of time lost in the woods themselves. They finally track down Jim (and the real trailer thieves, and Joeanne Darnell, who ran away from home, and...). A fight ensues over who is going to adopt the husky redheaded boy (I love how they kept describing him as "husky", like that was a good thing. Maybe it was back in the 1950s). Honey wins and convinces her parents to give her an older brother. Jim is adopted by the Wheelers and goes to live at the Manor House.

I nice little mystery. I figured out somethings before Trixie & Honey, but they are just kids.

    A childhood favorite re-visited.

Is the story as good as I remember? – Yes

What ages would I recommend it too? – Ten and up.

    Length? – Most of a day’s read.

    Characters? – Memorable, several characters.

Setting? – Real world - pre internet, computers, air conditioning,, and cell phones.

    Written approximately? – 1948.

Does the story leave questions in the readers mind? – Ready to read more.

Any issues the author (or a more recent publisher) should cover? Yes. A slight mention of the time frame of the story - as the teens are given far more freedom to come and go as they please than would be safe today. Also, the absence of computers, cell phones, and air conditioning, particularly in homes such as the mansion.

Short storyline: Trixie Belden and Honey search for Jim, who has disappeared to escape an evil stepfather.

Notes for the reader: A great mystery! No violence (only referred to from the past), no murder.

This was fun, if melodramatic. I loved Mrs. Smith, of course. And Miss Trask, slacker governess who can't even cook. Who wouldn't like Miss Trask?

The bad guys were satisfyingly bad without being terrifying, the parents mystifying but unimportant, and the story hummed along at a nice pace.

Someone on my LJ FL was forever raving about Trixie Belden, so I thought I'd give it a try. And now I know.Come to think of it, the same person threw a hissy fit and flounced off my LJ, so I needn't have bothered. Eh. Live and learn.

Red Trailer picks up directly where Secret in the Mansion leaves off. Trixie and Honey go on the road in an airstream trailer searching for Jim who thinks he is in trouble and doesn't know that he has inherited lots of money. The excitement of this book hold up to the test of time. A fun read.

The best part about this book is that it continues on from where the first book in the series ended. The latter books in the series are stand alone.Great book to read during the summer.

I give the series five stars, based on my love for the books when I first read them (in the late fifties). I was a "tomboy", and they appealed to me much more than the Nancy Drew books. Also I grew up living not far from their setting, so they seemed more real to me. I'm afraid to revisit them now.

You know, I never loved Nancy Drew the way I loved Trixie. The Trixie Belden books are kind of like what Nancy Drew would have been like if George was the sleuth and Nancy the sidekick.
