About this audiobook

One cold November night when Kat Kominski was fifteen years old, she and some friends held up a convenience store. In the heat of the moment, one of the others shot and killed an off-duty cop moonlighting as a security guard. Kat and her pals fled the scene in a panic, and no one was caught.

Thirteen years later, Kat—now Kate White—has built a new life for herself. Now a single mom with a nine-year-old son, she works as a prosecutor in the Philadelphia DA’s office. But her dark past returns to haunt her when she walks into court one day and has a devastating encounter with a prisoner, Mario Castellanos, one of her companions from that terrible night.

Hardcore criminal Mario is facing a possible sentence of twenty years. He lets Kate know that he is counting on her, his old friend turned prosecutor, to make sure he goes free instead. If Kate doesn’t do what he wants, he’ll claim she was the one who killed the off-duty cop.

Kate is in a bind: If the truth about her past gets out, she stands to lose everything, including her son. But she can’t do what Mario wants, either. As Mario ups his demands, blackmailing and terrorizing her, she is forced to turn for protection to a sexy homicide detective, Tom Braga, who suspects her of…something. The two clash repeatedly as Tom keeps digging into her past, trying to learn the truth.

Then another, far more menacing, threat rears its head, and Kate realizes that her life—and her son’s—are in terrible danger. Frantic, she sees that she has nowhere to turn. Except, maybe, to Tom.…

This was good commute audio read for me, where distraction doesn't matter and the content isn't heavy. A reformed bad girl in Philly has turned her life around, a successful soon-to-be D.A. Bit of fluffy mystery, a bit of romance, with no real flair anywhere. It was ok, nothing fancy! I liked all the character names (sometimes bad character names bother me). Have never read this author before, I may or not grab her off the shelf if I saw her at my library again. Probably being generous with three stars, but it's fine. Hey, Tom was pretty hunky ;) Oh, wait on, I do have one of her books on my shelf. No rush, it would mean I'd need to find it anyhow!

This book was extremely suspenseful and engaging. All the way to the very end. It was very exciting and the narrator did an excellent job

This is an entertaining story, despite being a bit far-fetched or too-tidy at times. The plot did make me wonder how the book would end (always a good thing). My rating reflects my frustrations with the Heroine. Her actions and attitude fluctuate quickly and often. The narration by Joyce Bean was average. A great story to listen to while pulling weeds.

Definitely another favorite. I picked this up at a used bookstore along with several others, and am recommending it to friends for a good read. I think I enjoy the suspense more than the romance (romance gets a little dry with most books) but she keeps me wanting to see what happens between the characters every time.

This was a "quick pick" on the counter in the library so I just picked it up on the off chance without really seeing what it was about. I'm quite pleased I found it. It is a courtroom/crime thriller with cheesy romantic undertones! The heroine, Kate, is a prosecutor with a shady past which it turns out she hasn't managed to put quite as far behind her as she thought. It catches up with her when she is taken hostage during a shoot-out in the courthouse. She is rescued by a handsome and sexy cop who, it is evident from the get-go, is set to be the man of her dreams! There is nothing particularly clever or original about this but it whiled away my lunchbreaks and bus-rides quite happily for a week or so.

Kate White is a single mother and an Assistant Prosecutor. She has worked hard to leave her past behind, but it reappears when shooting begins in the courtroom. As she tries to protect her reputation, others are trying to sort out the facts (and her involvement) in the courtroom disaster.Guilty was a great introduction to the author Karen Robards. As a non-romance reader, but a lover of suspense, it blended the two successfully. The suspense had a few twists I didn't expect and chapter cliff hangers that enticed me to continue. The romance was definitely there, but it wasn't pervasive, making it an interesting addition to a suspenseful plot.A few scenes and one character did not seem realistic, which caused me some disappointment, but for the most part it was an easy, enjoyable read. From a troubled childhood, new prosecutor Kat Kominski has worked hard to be a successful, responsible adult. It all begins to fall apart when she is taken hostage during an escape attempt and she discovers that her captor is a chidhood acquaintence who killed a security guard while robbing a convenience store. Kat didn't participate in the robbery, but she was there. Mario demands that she get him out of jail now or he will expose her secret...ruining her reputation and putting her son at risk. The plot is suspenseful with a twist at the end. Kat and Tom have a hot romance. This is a hard one to put down.
