- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The book was recommended to me by a dear friend who have known me for a long time. I am truly grateful to her for this merited recommendation. Dr Laura filled her pages with enormous feeling wisdom and tools. As a board certified pediatrician and board certified dermatologist thinking I had all of the above virtuous, I thank her for the help and wisdom she had instilled in me with her book. Love to know her in person.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is classic Dr Laura Schlesinger personality, storytelling and humor.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5She blazes through this! Having never listened to her radio talk show.....This made my head spin trying to keep up, but I suspect this is her typical speed and candor of speaking. I am glad it was a relatively short read, as I plan on listening through it several more times at least. If possible, I will memorize it.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is very short, but jam-packed full of examples, famous quotes and quips, and sage advice dealing with the many forms of betrayal. Dr. Schlessinger is a licensed family therapist, who has her own radio talk show on Sirius XM, and she writes about dealing with the urge for revenge after someone has hurt you through betrayal. She gives a basic understanding about the different causes for betrayal, and the best approach to dealing with being betrayed. In a nutshell, she recommends taking the higher road and “finding yourself” rather than losing your soul to the consumption and obsession centered with revenge. She even talks about there being a silver lining and that betrayals can bring out good things – mostly from the idea that when someone closes a door, somewhere a window opens. I guess I can see where she’s coming from. There is one example, to which she illustrates the obsession with revenge. Imagine yourself trying to dig up a cookie from the dirt. All the while, there is a three-course meal sitting nearby, with all the people who love and care about you. You are so obsessed that you don’t even notice the meal and the people – while they see you and can’t get you to see them. The whole example really hit home for me – if I remember anything from this book, it’ll be that example. Excellent work, Dr. S!
