This installment is a middle one and it shows, as much of the book, especially the Victory Tour of all the districts, is clearly a setup for "Mockingjay". However, I still found the story gripping and the characters sympathetic, and the pace picks up once the Capitol swings into action against Katniss, District 12 and other targets. The Katniss-Gale-Peta triangle is not my favorite of part of the story, but it does add drama for those who don't mind that sort of thing.

After playing their tricks on the Capitol in the 74th annual Hunger Games, Katniss and Peeta have to deal with the consequences of becoming the two victors of the previous Games. And since it's Quarter Quell year, President Snow has some tricks and plots up his sleeve as payback for potentially causing a rebellion in all Panem. As these Games approached, Katniss and Peeta have what seems to be the whole Capitol against them.

Good dystopian visions, and not too much hunger games-like activity, only towards the last 1/3 of the book. The abrupt ending is kind of discordant, as in the first book. Glad I have the 3rd one right here to pick up instantly.

I LOVED THE MOVIE. The book series is not fully realized. It is like an outline for what could be a great book. The producers and creators of the movie brought Katniss to life.

This book is amazing. This narrator was absolutely horrible. Felt like listening to some 50s version of catching fire

Good story, bad narration. It sounded like a 40 year old woman trying to mimick a teenage girl's voice. The other voices weren't very good either.

Catching Fire is the second book of The Hunger Games and the way it usually goes, these are my least favorite of a trilogy: The first excitement has faded and is a bit of a breather before working up on a total climax in book 3 - which can result in a rather boring experience. It wasn't much different this time, although it was less boring than I thought! Or was I just better prepared? Either way, it wouldn't explain me being on the wrong foot when it came to the end: it all happened so fast and it came very sudden! I've seldom been happier about being wrong about a book!

La historia genial, pero la narración deja mucho que desear y puede llegar a ser desesperante, además de que si los escuchas seguido no es la mismo voz que la del libro 1

Narrated by Carolyn McCormick. Talk about cliffhanger endings. I'll have to wait for the sure-to-be-explosive book three! This second title in the series felt more like a set-up for the next book. Events don't move so quickly in this one as the first, but there's more strategizing and intrigue. Killing and dying and injury happen here, too, so sensitive readers beware! I was glad to hear the same narrator on this as the first; her tone captures the cynicism and resignation of life in Panam (country name?) but also Katniss' feistiness.

I liked the second half of the novel much more than I liked the first. The first was pretty boring. Katniss is back at District 12 and going through life. She wants Peeta to be with her, but feels like she has chosen Gale.

I hate love triangles, especially one as badly done as this so I didn't really care much about Katniss' inner turmoil as she tried to decide which guy is right for her. If we had seen more from Gale, then I think I would have maybe understood this triangle more, but in the Hunger Games, we saw him in the beginning and in the end. Peeta was the main guy in that book and so we saw more of his feelings.

In Catching Fire, Gale is in the beginning and end and once again Peeta is the main guy in this book. I don't really understand how we're suppose to root for Gale when we hardly know him.

The second half of the novel is Katniss going back to the Hunger Games. I'm not going to lie, when I first saw this I was wondering why we had to do this again. But the more I read from it, the more I liked it. The allies were good and I really liked Johanna and Finnick. Both were smart and had a good head on their shoulders.

Katniss, was a tad annoying. And Peeta was either being carried or helped in some way. He was pretty much useless.

There was so much more that could have been done, but nothing happened until the end.

Hope Mockingjay is a lot better!

    She's done it again!

This book was just as good as the first, the tension and plot development was fantastic! It really draws you in and holds you on the edge of your seat right to the bitter end!

I could not believe Katniss and Peeta had to go into the arena again I was not expecting that and made the book even more engaging and just brilliant!

I was really pleased that the tributes beat the arena in the end and the cliffhanger at the end of district 12 being completely destroyed made me want to read the last book of the trilogy even more!

All in all this book was AMAZING and I cannot wait to see how it is adapted to the big screen!

The second book in the Hunger Games series. While it wasn't as fantastic as the first, it was still really good and held its ground. It was far from a let-down. I had some ideas about what would come next, but was pleasantly surprised that only one of those actually happened - and in a different way than I had thought. I can't say what I want without giving away the major plot point, but let's just say… the way it happened wasn't hokey at all. It was completely believable, as much as anything can be in a fictional/fantastical realm. I feel like this book was more of a necessary stepping stone to bridge one and three.

Catching Fire was surprisingly better than The Hunger Games for me. I liked the plot a lot more and the writing style wasn't as annoying, maybe I'm getting use to it. What I still dislike about this series so far is Katniss' character, the extent her being naive is ridiculously unrealistic. I would of loved to see the book once again go in a different way from how it was building up from the 1st half then it goes back to basically being like the first book. What was enjoyable about it was the other stuff going on that didn't really involve Katniss, and that was the uprisings going on. I get that she is the face of them but she really has very little to do with them and complains about her role and such small stuff while huge things are going on. I liked the ending, it was quick though but it does make me look forward to reading the next book.

Holy crap this is so good. So many things going on at once. Poor Katniss trying to save everyone, to no avail. That trick with the Quell was so unexpected, but it makes sense for the President to do it. Rebellion. Poor Peeta and Katniss trying to protect each other. And then there's Gale, who I've been pulling for all along. Who will survive? How will this rebellion play out? I'm gonna end up starting the next book as soon as I'm done this review!

This is the second book of a trilogy. I read the first book, the Hunger Games, a little over a month ago. I enjoyed the Hunger Games very much, but felt that it was missing something. The time spent in the arena was not as suspenseful as I would have liked, although the world Collins created was special.

This follow up was even better. It picks up right where the first book left off, and it continue to explore the world that Collins created. It is hard to review this without giving too much away, but I like the whole possible rebellion angle that the book takes. For a book that is considered to be a young adult title, there is a good amount of violence and death that makes the story real. My only criticism of the book would be that the central character, Katniss, sometimes seems to be too naive. She can't really see anything coming. However, that is part of what makes her endearing, so it is not a strong criticism.

I enjoyed this book slightly less than the first book in the Hunger Games series. It was more predictable and did not catch my full attention until about mid way through. I did not like where it ends, however, will be sure to read the third... 4/5 as it did not quite meet all the hype that surrounded it.

I liked how the author kept things from Katniss’ perspective so that while the reader might put some things together before her, you couldn’t put everything together that would happen.
I remember after finishing the first book, it felt like you could just stop there is you wished and felt some kind of completion (in the way maybe you might say ‘The Giver’ had a complete ending). But after this one, you feel compelled to immediately jump to the next one. (Thankfully my friend lent me that one as well, so I can)
