About this audiobook

The first book in #1 New York Times bestselling author Sandra Brown's beloved Texas! trilogy introduces readers to a close-knit family struggling to go on without its patriarch-and to a man in pursuit of an elusive woman who may hold his future in her hands.

Charismatic and easy on the eyes, Lucky Tyler is a born rebel. His romantic conquests have earned him his nickname, while his temper gives him his reputation as the family hothead. One night, he gets in a fight over a woman in distress, followed by a night of passion neither of them will soon forget. But the lady in question has a knack for disappearing. When news breaks of a suspicious fire at Tyler Drilling, Lucky is the prime suspect. Now the mystery woman is more than just the object of his obsession. She's his alibi.

Devon Haines has tried her best to escape Lucky. Yet his bold pursuit and self-assurance are irresistible. In order to clear him of criminal charges, she must reveal her darkest secret; withholding her help could cost him everything he holds dear. Either way, she risks losing him forever.

It was good fun, Lucky was a great leading man who goes after what he wants. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Lucky Tyler was a reckless young man whose family owned an oil drilling company. Heavily in debt and no drilling jobs because of the weak economy, the family business was in trouble. One day in the local bar, Lucky notices a couple of the local characters harassing an attractive woman he has never seen before. He intervenes ending up almost being killed only to have the woman get angry at his intervention. He follows her and ends up in the sack with her for a night neither will forget. She disappears and only a fluke moment glancing at a newspaper does he sees her face at the top of a newspaper column and tracts her down only to be sent away. Not use to women turning him down, Lucky peruses her relentlessly.

I was rooting for Luck Tyler to get himself out of trouble and to get the girl. The Tyler family are close. I can't wait to the next book to see how his brother Chase get by with the death of his wife.

Lucky Tyler attracted trouble--and women--like a lightning rod. But the night he stepped in to rescue a mysterious redhead in a seedy bar, he got more than he bargained for! The lady excited him, challenged him, drove him wild with desire--then vanished without a trace. Lucky was desperate to find her, to brand her with his heat -- and when the police were called in to investigate a suspicious fire at Tyler Drilling, his family business, he needed her for an alibi! Torn between anguish and ecstasy, Devon Haines tried to refuse Lucky's pleas for help, but the reckless blue-eyed devil wouldn't take no as an answer from her... not when his touch could make her burn, could make her his. Framed by old enemies, Lucky knew his only hope to clear himself rested on solving the crime, but Devon feared when his innocence was proved, she would lose the handsome cowboy who possessed her heart and soul Would the tragic vow that made their love forbidden cost her forever in his arms?

Lucky comes to the rescue of a girl in a bar, has a one night stand and is now being accused of arson. He needs to find this girl in order to substantiate his alibi. The plot is quite unrealistic and the storyline isn't what I look for in a book. But the lead character Lucky has a charm all his own. What can I say, I love Texas and cowboys!

Heavy on romance, light on suspense, but pretty good. The resolution of the arson story was pretty weak, like "oops, I've got this other story line out there, gotta wrap it up now!" The set-up for the next book is pretty transparent, too -- but as expected.

Before I proceed with my review, I would like to note that I received this book as a giveaway. That said, it is the second novel that I have ever read by Sandra Brown and I was surprised at her versatility. The first novel I had read, Lethal, was a murder suspense mystery novel and this novel is romance meets mystery. Ms. Brown does an amazing job at capturing human emotions on a page and yet this is not your typical romance - there is depth to the story and plot. I found myself surprised at how much I really enjoyed this easy to read romantic mystery.

The plot can be summarized as such: when Lucky Tyler "rescues" a beautiful woman in a local bar from two rough hillbillies, he follows her to a hotel on the premise of receiving an apology from the somewhat rude woman. A smooth-talker, he manages to talk his way into her room where she helps tend to his wounds. In the course of the evening they end up sleeping together and he awakes to her gone. When he returns home, he is informed that there was a massive fire in one of his companies buildings and that he is being accused of setting it. Lucky must find the mysterious woman who is his alibi and figure out who set him up in order to clear his name.

The end is predictable (as I think most romances probably are) but it is an enjoyable read.
