About this audiobook

True love is shrouded in secrets and lies in the enchanting second “steamy, steampunk drama” (Los Angeles Times) in the #1 New York Times bestselling Infernal Devices trilogy, prequel to the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series—now with a gorgeous new cover, a map, a new foreword, and excusive bonus content! Clockwork Prince is a Shadowhunters novel.

In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when it becomes clear that the mysterious Magister will stop at nothing to use Tessa’s powers for his own dark ends.

With the help of the handsome, tortured Will and the devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister’s war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal and fueled by revenge. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister knows their every move—and that one of their own has betrayed them.

Tessa is drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa answers about who she really is? As their search leads to deadly peril, Tessa learns that secrets and lies can corrupt even the purest heart.

Though it started off slow and didn't pick up until rather far into the book, I found the characters truly growing on me for that first time. The explorations of Will's backstory were great and emotional. I found that by the end of the book, in that last scene, I was smiling giddily because of how happy I was with these characters and their progressions. I had low expectations for this book, and though many of the issues I had with it's predecessor were equally present in this one, the characters really came through in this one, and quite made up the difference.

As always superb imagery! I have to say so far I like TID much more than TMI. Although the triangle between Tessa, Jem, and Will? Necessary, I think not. I absolutely adore Tessa, she doesn't take crap from anybody at all, no matter what. Very refreshing.

The second novel of the Infernal Devices trilogy continues the story of Tessa Gray, a shapeshifter of unknown origins, who along with her half angel, half-human demon fighters aka Shadowhunters, continue their search for an evil industrialist who is creating a army of demonic powered automatons to destroy the Shadowhunters. While not engaged in this war, Tessa continues to struggle with her romantic choice between Will, the psychologically damaged Shadowhunter and Jim, the physically damaged Shadowhunter.

I'm not an easy reader of Young Adult, especially if there is too much adolescent angst and infatuation. However, this novel contained a tolerable level. I enjoy the author's Infernal Devices series better than The Mortal Instrument series, probably because of my interest in historical fiction. The second novel was not as interesting as the first probably because it is a bridge between the first and third; however, it was enjoyable.

It is amazing how much more I like this series than I do TMI. Perhaps the author learned from her fans what not to do this time around.

While there is still a stinking love triangle, it's not nearly as annoying Simon/Clary/Jace. Now we finally understand why Will is the way he is, but that doesn't make me wish that Tess would pick him. I want her with Jem. I think he loves her just as much as Will does, and I believe Tessa loves him equally as well. I just hope this doesn't turn into a sense of duty for her rather than love. I can understand doing the right thing by Jem, but not out of duty. She should want to keep from hurting him because she loves him.

Romance aside, the story is interesting. I cannot wait to find out what Tessa is (though I already know from the TMI series). But I want to know how she finds out and what everyone's reaction is. And what will eventually happen to Jem? What will become of Charlotte, Henry andrhe Institute? And when will they finally find Mthe Magister? Or will he find them?

I almost want to start the next book this instant!

Damnit, I loved this. I can’t quite give it 5 stars, but the narrators were lovely and I was engrossed in the story. It’s very addictive and Clare has really found her stride. Still. Expect what you always expect from Clare: drama, ridiculousness, and things that mostly make sense. If you squint.

Great readers and lovely atmosphere. We get to know more about the origins and the families. The only thing I personally don't like is the writer's idea that all her male principal characters must be the classical cliché of Jace, bad outside, rude but gentle inside. Jace and Will look like the same person to me. Too bad.

Once I got past the fact that these narrators are different from the narrator from the first book I was able to start enjoying this book.

However, the female narrator mildly annoyed me with the slightly awkward cadence she used and terrible accents.

The second book in the infernal devices had a lot more to unpack then the first installment. Readers get to dig deeper into Will’s past and in turn understand his actions. The audiobook was clear to understand creating a good visual experience.

This is a fantastic series. Stunning world building, brilliant writing, multidimensional characters, alot of angst, action, and romance. Highly recommend, the only thing about this book that's YA is the age of the characters. Great narrators

What great narrators! Ed Westwick has a beautiful voice and he reads with emotion without going overboard. It's the same for Heather Lind.
Book 2 is definitely better than Book 1. It's like the story gains speed with every chapter.
All in all a it was a joy listening to it.

Everyone wants to experience at least one great love in their life. Luckily for Tessa, she has not one but two great loves in her life. Now this is extremely lucky and rare. Yet again it is also rare to be a shape shifter, rare to be with the Shawdowhunters, and rarer to be wanted by The Magister. Tessa Gray has got her hands full. The race is on. Two boys are entered and ready. They both want what she has, but only one will end up with her. Will and Jem are both falling in love with Tessa and Tessa is falling in love with both of them. In Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare, we learn that Tessa Gray is the new ?it? girl in the world of the Shawdowhunters. She used to be a normal teenager from New York but, ever since she?s been in London, Tessa has discovered she is a very powerful shape shifter and with great power comes great problems. One, she is madly in love with two best friends Jem and Will, and is still unable to decide which she likes better. Two, she?s been having some family issues once her brother tried to sell her to The Magister. Three, The Magister still wants her power as his own and is still alive trying to get Tessa. And to make things worse, the Shawdowhunters are tested when the position of Charlotte as head of the Institute is tested. Yet, Will, Jem, and Tessa are not giving up their search for The Magister. Soon they will realize his hatred toward the Clave is deeply personal and end up traveling to Yorkshire to seek answers in a manor house he supposedly grew up in. What the trio expected to find was nothing like they did. Instead of a man, they found a women, more like a girl. A girl that happens to look just like Will, a girl that just so happened to be Will?s long lost sister. Now with a family member near and a clockwork army being created, the gang realizes that The Magister is always one step ahead of them and knows their every move, so that can mean only one thing- someone has betrayed them. The world is now more at stake than it was before and the Shawdowhunters are seizing to exist. The Magister must be found and stopped. Compared to the first book, this second one is so much better. This book jumps right back into the story of Tessa; her longing for Will, her devotion to Jem, yet through it all The Magister still searching for her, now with her brother. From the start of the book, it was amazing. In fact I loved it so much I finished it in entirely in three days. If you didn?t completely love the first book of this series, trust me you?re going to want to read this book. Tessa is still being searched for by The Magister now with Nate, Tessa?s brother yet through it all Tessa still somehow keeps herself together by the help of Jem and Will. Although Tessa loves them both, Will is changing; the great wall he built up around himself is slowly crumbling down while Tessa and Jem begin to grow closer and closer. Will Will finally open up and allow people to love him? Will the Magister final get caught? Will Tessa find her true love and finally be happy and unafraid? What will happen to Will and Jem? Who will become the Clockwork Prince?

I took my time on getting around to this one because there were so many rumors as to when the final installment would come out. Now that its available, I'm trying to hurry and play catch up.
This book brought up so many questions. Such as "What is Tessa?" and "What is the Magister REALLY up to?" It was the perfect setup for the last book. Had I not waited to read it, I would have been very upset at having to wait so long to finally get the answers to these questions.
The best part of this book has to be the emotion surrounding it. With Clare's writing, the grief that Tessa, Will, and Jem face, is not only read, but FELT by the reader. I honestly felt my heart breaking many times for Will throughout the entire novel. Gah, Will is such a misunderstood character!
I saw that many people were also afraid of the love triangle in this series. Although it is a big part in the story, it is not overwhemling. I enjoyed it, (#TeamWill) besides the times when she was with the "wrong person." lol The triangle is well written and as I said before, sets up for the last installment to the series where Tessa will hopefully pick.
Lastly, something that I enjoyed from the first book to this series, is the characters. They are explained more in depth in this novel. We learned so much more about Will, Jem, Tessa, her brother, Mortmain, and even Jessamine. Although we learned about them in the first one, I feel that they were explained more and the reasoning for their actions is explained. Hence the reason I said Will is misunderstood.
This book will give you some answers and will give you even more questions. It was the perfect sequel novel, and I don't say that often. I am definitely looking forward to reading the last installment to the Infernal Devices series to answer all my questions, such as who will Tessa pick, what is she, and how does the actual Mortal Instruments come in to play at the very end of the story.

In Victorian London, Tessa Gray has finally found safety with the Shadowhunters, but there are plots afoot to replace the head of the Institute where she has found her refuge, and the corruption is miles deep. While I?m enjoying the plot, I find myself getting somewhat frustrated with the story because it focuses far too much on romance and far too little on plot; the romance is supposed to be a side-plot, not THE plot. Argh. That said, I spent the last several hours cursing at this book because it?s just? I realize timing like this is only possible in books, and I find it utterly frustrating when it happens.

As with the first book in this series, I was disappointed by this book. It's been a while since I read the Mortal Instruments series, but I remember loving it. These books, however, I certainly don't love. The characters are rather weak and unbelievable, many of them caricatures - Jem is unreasonably kind; Henry is supposed to be a genius but appears as an idiot; Will is one of the better characters but doesn't seem consistent, nor many of his actions believable; Tessa is weak, conforms totally to the expectancies of the time and doesn't seem to question anything - which while believable, is disappointing and a definite waste of her potential as a badass; Charlotte, who also has the potential to be a strong, badass female character, comes off as weak and silly. The plot is rather unremarkable, the so-called 'twists' foreseeable from miles off, and there's a definite over-use and abuse of 'deus ex machina's .Overall, still a fairly enjoyable book, but definitely not as good as Cassandra Clare's other series.EDIT: I can't believe I forgot : the love triangle. BAD! It seems to be popping up everywhere in YA literature these days, and I hate it! In this book is was completely unnecessary, contrived and godawful. We were only given a vague idea as to why Will likes Tessa, and adding in Jem was stupid. He has no reason to like her, nor is any reason given. If the plot is that boring, just change it, don't add in a love triangle. It plays to so many tropes and negative stereotypes to both genders, not to mention it's unrealistic and not believable. Quite frankly, I've never read a well-written love triangle, nor have I ever read one I've enjoyed. Quite frankly, the awful things should be outright banned. Case in point: this book.

I LOVED this book for a few reasons. For one, the characters are brilliant. Cassandra Clare is a great author because she carries the same characters from one book to another, also adds new characters. For a second reason, I always enjoy Tessa and Will's relationship, but Jem and Tessa's relationship is growing stronger, so it kinda makes it a love triangle. This book has many people's perspectives, and I really liked seeing different reactions in all the characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who has read Clockwork Angel, and is looking for the second book in the Infernal Devices Series.

I loved this book as much as the first, Clockwork Angel. Something about this world appeals to me, with its supernatural creatures and hunters set in Victorian England. This book reveals a few answers to mysteries, and creates a few more. As a warning, this review will contain spoilers. The Shadowhunter crew and Tessa are still hot on the trail of Mortmain, and while they diligently follow their leads, they never find him. Following one of their leads, Will is shocked to see his sister, Cecily! Will has been operating under a curse that states death will come to any that love, or so he believed - he is working closely with Magnus to to try to reverse it, as he is in love with Tessa. Because of this curse, he ran from his family, to protect them. The event where he is cursed is a very good scene in the book- you feel so bad for Will! And Magnus, what a great character. His parts were few and there needed to be more of them.I didn't feel bad enough for Will though; Tessa and Jem's relationship gets closer, and steamier. The whole book I was terrified that Tessa was going to break his heart! Tessa seems more mature in this book, however, and I liked where this plot went. As for Charlotte and Henry, they reveal to each other the fears they had regarding the other's feelings, and are firmly, madly in love. The best scene in the book is Henry's heroics in a tea warehouse. Charolotte is my favorite character, small but mighty, mothering and strong. She has her own battles to fight in this book, and was up to the task.Sophie and Jessamine have secret loves in this book - Sophie with Gideon Lightwood, and Jessamine, with none other than Nathan Gray, Tessa's brother! These two and their romances play pivotal roles in the plot of this book - you will have to read it to find out what happens there. This novel ended on quite a cliffhanger- I can't wait to read the next in the series!

Cassandra Clare has written a wonderful tale set in a world filled with demons and angels and by the angel, I love Will Herondale! You can imagine how disappointed I was over Tessa Gray choosing to marry Jem Carstairs instead of Will. To be fair though her heart was torn in two.

As a huge fan of Cassandra Clare, and the Immortal Instruments and Infernal Devices series, I LOVED this book. I really adore the steam punk world that she?s created. Clare manages to make you feel like you?re in Victorian England while still infusing her writing with modern emotion. That?s a hard balance to find, but Cassandra Clare has mastered it.Tessa, Jem, and Will all grow immensely in this novel. Tessa, as always, has to make very difficult decisions. She is a fairly selfless character and I like that about her. She?s also noble and honorable. Her actions in Clockwork Prince made me like her even more.Jem is, as usual, too sweet for me. I mean he?s great and I like him fine, but really, he?s just too fluffy for my tastes. I wouldn?t be angry if Tessa ended up picking him in the end, but I definitely prefer Will. Jem grew on me some in this novel, though. I like him more, and he showed a dark side this time. That was refreshing. However, at the end of the day, I still would choose Will. I?m not Tessa, though, so we?ll have to wait and see what she does. Will broke my heart in this novel. It was nothing he did. It was just everything that has happened to him. His deep dark secret finally comes out, and we find out why he can?t love anyone. The outcome of that is very sad, and I?m pretty sure poor Will was traumatized by the end of this novel. Will makes some pretty terrible mistakes in this book, but I think he redeems himself by the end. He does the best he can, and through the process, he becomes less self-absorbed. By the end of the novel, he?s grown up a lot. Magnus, as always, is a favorite of mine. He?s funny, and his heart of gold shines through, even when he doesn?t want it to. He really puts a lot of effort into helping Will, and I admire that about him. We also get to learn more about Magnus? past relationships in this novel, which makes me understand his motivations a bit better. The action and suspense in Clockwork Prince kept me turning the pages. I could not put this book down! The pacing for this novel was spot-on. It moved slowly enough for the characters to grow and the relationships to develop, but it wasn?t so slow-moving that I got bored. Will, Jem, and Tessa still have plenty of obstacles, both personal and with the Magister, to overcome in the next book, and I can?t wait to see what they get into in Clockwork Princess!

So, it’s official. I prefer the Infernal Devices series to the Mortal Instruments books. BY FAR. (Did I ever tell the story about stopping in the middle of the fourth TMI book?) I actually LIKE the way the love triangle is set-up–neither of the boys is clearly actually the right one for Tessa at this point, and they all feel like real characters in their own right. I especially like that Will and Jem are, you know, friends. For the record Tessa/Jem, though I don’t think it will last. [Jan 2011]

Simply amazing. Cassandra Clare is a wonderful, talented storyteller. Having just finished this novel, I don't believe there is anything I particularly disliked about it. Everything that comes to mind when I think about the book, I thoroughly enjoyed. I loved the plot, the character development. I loved the conflict, the betrayal. I loved the many threads of story that wove their way back into the characters' pasts, or foreshadowed things to come. I may just be a sick individual (it's possible, even probable), but one of my favorite things about this book was just how thoroughly it broke your heart. It takes a good book to wrench your heart in so many directions, you don't know what to do with yourself. Clockwork Prince does it, and elegantly. I recommend it highly.
