About this audiobook

Their lives defy convention.

When an unexpected inheritance elevates her family to the ranks of the aristocracy, Amelia Hathaway discovers that tending to her younger sisters and wayward brother was easy compared to navigating the intricacies of the ton. Even more challenging: the attraction she feels for the tall, dark, and dangerously handsome Cam Rohan.

Their desire consumes them both.…

Wealthy beyond most men's dreams, Cam has tired of society's petty restrictions and longs to return to his "uncivilized" Gypsy roots. When the delectable Amelia appeals to him for help, he intends to offer only friendship-but intentions are no match for the desire that blindsides them both. But can a man who spurns tradition be tempted into that most time-honored arrangement: marriage? Life in London society is about to get a whole lot hotter.…

I'm excited for this series! I wish I had the next book so I could dive into it right away. I loved getting to read Cam's HEA after he slipped out of the Wallflowers series. I really liked Amelia as well, given my fondness for spinsters, particularly independent, strong ones. I'm also looking forward to the rest of the sibling's books. Leo will make an excellent tragic, scarred hero. And I am going to the library first thing in the morning to Win's book, there was so much wonderful set-up for the next story. I'm glad I decided to read these in order. (4.5 stars)

addictive-series, historical-romance, historical-research, history-and-culture, happy-ending I loved it in paperback, I loved it while multitasking, and now I still love it while knitting. I remember researching the lore and persecutions of the Rom (even the Nazis) the first time I read it and learned a lot. An excellent romance complete with fantasy, danger, suspense, and a family like no other! Narrator extraordinaire Rosalyn Landor adds to the enjoyment.

Amelia Hathaway, a self-declared spinster at 26, is working hard to keep her elder brother, Leo, in check as he deals with his grief over the loss of his fiancee by drinking excessively and gambling the funds of his newly inherited title. At the same time, Amelia is also trying to ensure the safety of her three younger sisters. On one evening, attempting to retrieve Leo from one of his latest binges, Amelia encounters Cam Rohan, the half Roma manager of the most in-demand gambling club in London. While Amelia has no desire to find love again and Cam is entirely uninterested in committing to the lifestyle of non-Roma, the sparks that fly between them are too hot for either of them to deny.As always, a very enjoyable historical romance from Kleypas. Amelia and Cam are equally charming characters and it was interesting to see Kleypas the realities of what a relationship between an upper-class British woman and a half-Roma man might actually look like. There was a mild paranormal element included in the novel that I wasn't expecting with Kleypas and that only sort of worked, thus dragging down the ratings a star. However, I was very pleased to see several characters from Kleypas' Wallflowers series crop up in this novel as well. I'll definitely be picking up the rest of the books in this series.

For a long while, I have been addicted to Historical Romance books, and I especially loved Julia Quinn and Lisa Kleypas's books, so I bought them without thinking and I rarely was disappointed.

But after The Twilight Saga, I had a new addiction: Paranormal books! So I had the first 3 books in The Hathaways series for a 2 years and I haven't even read them.

But lately, I'm going back to read other genres as well, and while I was lying sick with the flu in bed, I just picked the first book: Mine Till Midnight... and I was enchanted... totally transformed to a hot gypsy world where proper ladies don't date pirate-like guys and all the proper ladies are nothing like the Hathaway girls! The Hathaway family would make you laugh out loud with every chapter and melt with every love scene, and sometimes cry a tear or two and it would always surprise you by the unexpected events!

I started reading Mine Till Midnight yesterday evening and I can't put it down, I felt so tired yesterday, I had to sleep, but all I wanted was to continue!! I loved having Lillian, Eve and others from the Wallflower series in the first book in this new series, but what I am really loving is that Cam has his own book!! I loved him a lot in Devil in Winter!! I am glad he is here as a hero!! Great book!! I am so looking forward to read Win and Kev story next!! This story made me melt!! So much love and sexual tension!! Hot book!!

Cam Rohan, the wealthy half-Gypsy first seen in 2006's Devil in Winter, in her latest page-turning Victorian. Rohan, manager of a London gentleman's club, decides to do a favor for the distraught Amelia Hathaway, who is scouring brothels in search of her wastrel brother, Leo.

Rohan, weary of his usual diet of beautiful-but-boring lovers, is bemused by and attracted to Amelia, a staid and proper spinster, and so he sets about making a presence of himself at the ramshackle Hathaway estate, sowing sexual tension as he does.

As the standoffish relationship between Rohan and Amelia evolves into romance, the reappearance of Amelia's former suitor throws an intriguing wrench in the works. The author's sensitivity to the prejudice endured by the Roma (Gypsies) adds a measure of grim reality that is creatively offset by Rohan's discussion of Roma beliefs and superstitions.

This series follows the Wallflowers series, and exists in the same world with the same characters. I'm kind of annoyed that it's broken up in this way.

This book features Cal, the Romani casino manager, as the leading man. There's some weird "Gypsy Magic" shit, but I think the racial issues are handled pretty well.

I want to give it a 3 1/2 but it was entertaining throughout and didn't have any glaring piss me off moments, so I bumped it up instead of down.

It was sweet. The family is quirky and it was fun to meet them. There are some real mystical moment or very coincidental... rings that don't come off, man being in the exact right place at the right time, she is his "fate", he has the luck(or curse) of fortune, etc... Cam is a 1/2 Rom 1/2 Irish who is only partially excepted by the Gadji. Luckily Amelia is one of those but she has to be convinced that he truly wants the quirkiness and problems that come with her. During this, she discovers she need someone to rely on and Cam's that someone (along with scorching sex).

Now let me start by saying I'm a big fan of historical romances. They're kind of my guilty pleasure. I'm also not usually very critical of them - I've read and enjoyed some that I know were objectively pretty awful.

But this one...this one really takes the cake.

This book was downright awful. It had absolutely no chemistry between the main characters, absolutely no plot, and the characters were stupid. Amelia had no personality, and Cam was almost completely defined by his race. *yawn*

A friend recommended this series to me, and I'm going to keep going for her because she warned me the first book was awful, but god, this was bad.

Just one review for all books in this series. The development of the characters and relationships is good, the interaction between family members and friends is wonderful. The books are a fun read and sometimes an emotional one. I keep rereading this series, so maybe that says it all.

Thoughts on this book -review in progress

I do not think this book is for me. It was very well written but for the life of me, I felt nothing for it. While is sad, since I heard so many great things about it.

The main focus of the Story is on Cam and Amelie. But there is also other characters, in particular Merripen (strange name) and Win. I'd just be getting into what is happening with our main stars, then WHAM! My focus is forced elsewhere. Often that is fine, but for some reason it kept me disconnected from the characters.

What I can say is I liked that this is not your typical, insta-love romance. In fact, Cam has his his work cut out (okay i guess it it insta-love for his part). Amelia's focus is elsewhere and not in looking for a man.

As I already stated, the writing is very good. And there are a few hot scenes between out couples. But no matter how hard I wanted to, I just felt very distant the entire time.

I didn't care about the characters for the most part. I liked Cam, mostly, but the "look at me I'm an exotic gypsy!" thing was kind of laughable.

I haven't been into the romance genre for quite awhile, with the exception of a few Nora Roberts books, but I'm really enjoying Lisa Kleypas. She's got a great style, fun characters, and weaves culture into the plots without it feeling like a history lesson. This was a great first book for a series, deftly weaving the main character's story while building interest for the remaining books. Can't wait to read the rest (as well as the preceding series, The Wallflowers.)

I really like Lisa Kleypas in general. The introduction to the Hathaway's is great. A unlucky family meets Cam who has a good luck curse. It's interesting seeing the role of fate that plays for both of them.

    meh.

I don't like superstitions, ghosts, and the like...all that talk just didn't really do it for me. Cam didn't really do it for me. Parts of him were sexy and sinful and other things were just super annoying (a little too masculine for me or something)

And I kind of just didn't feel a connection between them, or with amelia.

That's all I've got for now.

Cam- my favorite Irish Gypsy finally gets his book. I first grew to love Cam in Ms. Kleypas's Wallflower series, where he was was left unfinished. He is strong, sexy, independent and surprisingly funny. He is an outcast in a 'upper class white' ruled society. Dark skinned and heathen, many look down on him. but, the ones who know him see the man he is. His dream of being a free man may be more of a challenge than he thinks. He has meant a woman who will not step aside and let his pass. - oh they are a fantastic coupling. It is just the beginning to a life that he thought was his worst nightmare.
This is one romantic tale, that will have you giggling along the way. I do suggest reading The Wallflowers series first.

I love the Hathaways, and so I decided a comfort reread was needed right now. Cam is just the hero that Amelia needs, and their love is glorious. I also love the whole family and forgot how messed up Leo was in the beginning. My first reading of this was in a time share in Sedona, and I didn’t get to the next book for a month; now I’m able to dive right in immediately to not forget anything.

Fantastic story. The Hathaway family is a bit different than the usual HR. They are of noble birth but without the usual type of society background. There is Leo, the oldest, who recently inherited a title, followed by our heroine, Amelia, and her sisters Win, Poppy, and Beatrix. There is also a not quite family, not quite servant Gypsy man named Merripen who is an integral part of the group. Life has been difficult for the Hathaway family recently. A scarlet fever epidemic killed their parents, Leo and Win nearly died, Leo's fiancée did die. Leo has been so devastated by Laura's death that he is doing his best to kill himself with dissipation. The man that Amelia loved threw her over for another woman. As Leo has no interest in anything but his own misery, Amelia has taken over the running of the family. As the story opens, Amelia is searching for Leo, who has disappeared once again. She is determined to take the family to their estate in Hampshire, away from the memories and pitfalls of the city, where they can begin again. Amelia is stubborn, independent, and convinced that she is the only one standing between her family and disaster. In her search for Leo, she encounters Cam Rohan, the half-Gypsy/half-Irish manager of a gambling establishment. Though he has no intention of interfering in their family issues, Cam finds himself unable to refuse to help Amelia find Leo. Once he does, he thinks that the end of it. Fate has other plans, and they meet again in Hampshire in a most unusual manner.Amelia was impressive and frustrating. I loved her determination and her protectiveness toward her family. She will do anything for them. However, she is a bit overprotective and controlling, especially when it comes to Win and Leo. She tends to take charge, steamrollering over any objections. She also exhibits a very human side. I loved that she wasn't always cheerful and unflappable, but shows the effects of bad days, frustration with her siblings and others, and the occasional loss of her temper. There was also a hysterical scene involving a lizard and a dinner party where her behavior was not what I expected.Cam was wonderful. We get a little bit of his background, and I have high hopes of learning more in later books. He was taken from his Gypsy family at the age of ten and went to work for the gambling house. As an adult, he is the right-hand man to the club owner and extremely (and unwillingly) wealthy. He has a bit of an internal battle going on between his Gypsy and Irish sides, which has made him rather restless. One of my favorite things about him is that he is comfortable with who he is. He has accepted that he is considered an outsider by both Gypsy and non-Gypsy folks, that he has the respect and friendship of those who mean the most to him and doesn't care about anyone else's opinion of him. He thinks about walking away from it all and returning to the Gypsy way of life until he meets Amelia.I enjoyed the development of Cam and Amelia's relationship. There were sparks between them from the start, though they initially try to resist. Cam quickly became very protective of Amelia. Once he realized that she was the perfect woman for him, Cam was pretty relentless in his pursuit of her. I loved his way with words as he would tell her of his intentions. He also did not suffer from "I'm not good enough for her," that society could deal with them or not. Amelia was a little harder to convince. She did not doubt the power of their attraction, as shown by the flames that erupted between them whenever he touched her. But she was afraid that a half-Gypsy man would never be content in a traditional marriage, and would begin to resent her instead. I loved that Cam didn't give up on making her see that they were meant to be together. There were also some secondary stories going on. First was the whole issue with Leo and his dissolute attitude. I was very frustrated with his whole "poor me" attitude. Losing his fiancée sucked, but he still had four sisters that he was responsible for. He redeemed himself a little at one point where he supported Amelia during her encounter with her ex, but that was a very small moment. I ached for him at the end, when Cam made him face his past and make a decision. There was also something going on between Win and Merripen. Merripen's background is very mysterious, and there appears to be some connection with Cam, outside of them both being Gypsies. He is also very protective of Win and sensitive to her moods. I loved the whole cleaning scene and the solution he came up with that satisfied both her and Amelia. It is quite obvious that Merripen is in love with Win, but he does feel unworthy of her. It is hard to tell at first if Win feels the same way about him. Things get very interesting after the fire in which Merripen is injured, and I loved how the fragile Win comes out on top. I am looking forward to their story.

Didn’t like this one. Amelia Hathaway is taking caring of three younger sisters, an older brother and a surrogate adopted brother who happens to be a gypsy. Her brother should be the head of the family but he is depressed and drunk all the time because his fiancée has died. They have inherited a house but the brother accidently started a fire and nearly killed them. They are taken in by neighbors who are friendly with a gypsy who falls in love with Amelia. He’s rich and is going to solve all of the Hathaways problems.

Another great historical romance by Lisa Kleypas. Yeah, it is a cliche and we all know happy ending is inevitable for main characters, but it's fun to read. I loved the Hathaways family, they are so odd, unusual and funny and I can not wait to meet them again.

    4 Stars

Entertaining but not as delighted and wowed as I wanted to be.

Even though Cam is deliciosuly yummy and an intense "hero in pursuit", and Amelia is a refreshingly realistic and down to earth heroine, I expected more from their romance.

While Cam and Amelia are both engaging as individuals and as a couple, their characters need more development. Cam's background, in particular, is not sufficiently fleshed out.

While they certainly have the steam factor in spades, Cam and Amelia's connection lacks the emotional intensity of Win and Kev's relationship (which is particularly compelling).

In terms of the plot, the ghost story is completely superficial and unnecessary, and the resolution to the minor suspense plot is anti-climactic. It also lacks follow up on the villain's comeuppance.

The secondary characters are engaging and the cameos by Evie, Lillian and their significant others are wonderful. The Hathway siblings are lovely except for Leo who annoyed the sh*t out of me.

Really looking forward to Kev and Win's story in the next book.

This is the first in the series of the Hathaway Family. The Hathaway’s are a lively, unconventional family.

This one is the story of Amelia, the oldest girl in the family of 5. After the tragic demise of their parents Amelia is left shouldering the responsibility of being head of the family. This includes trying to save her older brother, Leo, from himself. In her quest to help Leo, Amelia finds love
with Cam Rohan, a sexy gypsy.

I absolutely love this family. Their interactions and comedic timing lead to a light and fun read. I actually read the second one, Seduce Me at Sunrise, before reading the first. The second one remains my favorite, but I love the setting up of the story that occurs in the first.

After reading the Wallflower series and seeing the sex gypsy’Cam’ that we all know and love. It was a thrill to read Mine Till Midnight, and even though this isn’t the first time that I have read this book, I just fall in love with it every time that I read it. Cam and Amelia are one of my favorite couples that Kleypas’ has created. I found this story to be invigorating and each page enthralling. Keeps you on your toes with every adventure, every kiss and each moment that will leave you breathless…A UNFORGETTABLE STORY!!!My Favorite Quote “What about your freedom?” Amelia asked, snuggling close as he lay beside her “Are you sorry to have lost it?”“No love,” Cam reached to turn down the lamp “I’ve finally found it. Right here, with you.”
