I have many mixed feelings about this book. This was my first book written by Barbara Freethy and I will probably also read some of her others.

I really like the plot, I mean the suspense part. It is engaging and complicated with lots of action and twists. It would make a good TV series. I like that the situation changes with every page and that there are so many layers of this story, the mystery to be solved. I also enjoy the idea of Kayla going for her revenge after being coned into loving a man she doesn't know.

Unfortunately, I didn't like the romance part as much. It is too strange and improbable in my opinion. I can understand the reasons Kayla wants to get involve with Nick, after her great failure she needs some reassurance that she is still an attractive woman worth more than just a clock. At least, this is how I see it. But Nick being imminently attracted to her out of nowhere? This is over the top. And they are talking about love knowing each other just a few days and being under the pressure all the time. Well, at least they don't decide to marry soon.

There are also some completely illogical things that were driving me crazy. Like their mobile phones! Sometimes they use them and sometimes they completely forgot about them when they could actually use them to call for help. Like when they are left on the island. And here is another irrational thing. I have never heard about the museum left totally without protection for a night. No matter how short on money they are, they should have some surveillance cameras or at least a man staying there at night. Just in case there are some crazy vandals, and there is always something to steal in the place like that. So, no, I don't believe in this part.

As I said this probably not my last book by Barbara Freethy, the suspense was highly entertaining.

This book is a well written Romantic Suspense novel. The book kept my attention till the end and then made me eagerly start looking for the next book Played.

When her husband disappears on their wedding night, Kayla fears that she's been an easy mark for deception. Then she meets Nick, a stranger who also crossed paths with Kayla's husband. Together Kayla and Nick embark on a journey to uncover the secrets of their pasts-and the motives of a brilliant con man who's out to get them.

Taken is the book that comes before Played. It starts with Kayla marrying a man who said his name is Nick. Kayla gets duped and the real Nick gets his identity stolen. They team up to try to find Evan the con man who is out to get gold stolen in the 1950's. A nice quick read that has you wanting to shout at the characters at times.

Taken was a very interesting, fast-paced story. This is the first book I’ve read by author, Barbara Freethy. I could see her becoming a favorite, real quick. I enjoyed the intriguing mystery of the plot. A great who-dun-it book. I found the characters to be well developed and very mysterious. I loved the ending and how it was left open. I am really looking forward to reading the sequel, Played.

Barbara Freethy has fast become one of my favorite romantic suspense authors. The books are full of twists and turns and a multitude of threads, which she handles deftly, weaving them all together to make a believable and satisfying conclusion. I've been slowly collecting her backlist. In Taken, a young woman's decision to take a chance on love has disastrous consequences when her brand-new husband goes out for ice... and never comes back. Weeks later, she goes past his house, and finds another man living there, claiming to have the same name.A con artist, the FBI, a decades-old robbery and jailbreak, a 12-year-old grudge, people with hidden pasts and shadowy presents... and two people trying to unravel it all while becoming inextricably entwined with each other.*sigh* Yeah, I suck at writing about books I like.Good book. I recommend it.
