About this audiobook

In this New York Times bestseller, twenty-six renowned thriller authors team up to create a first-rate serial novel—a collaboration that combines the skills of America’s greatest storytellers to produce a single gripping, spellbinding mystery.

“The lineup of writers who have contributed to this mystery is akin to the Murderers’ Row of the 1927 New York Yankees. There is not a weak spot in the bunch.” —David Baldacci, from the Introduction

Alexander McCall Smith. Sandra Brown. Faye Kellerman. J.A. Jance. Jeffery Deaver. Kathy Reichs. Lisa Scottoline. Jeff Lindsay. These are only a handful of the names that make up the all-star lineup of authors behind No Rest for the Dead, a tale of vengeance, greed, and love that flows seamlessly, in the words of David Baldacci, “as it passes from one creator’s mind to the next.”

When Christopher Thomas, a ruthless curator at San Francisco’s McFall Art Museum, is murdered and his decaying body is found in an iron maiden in a Berlin museum, his wife, Rosemary, is the primary suspect, and she is tried, convicted, and executed. Ten years later, Jon Nunn, the detective who cracked the case, is convinced that the wrong person was put to death. In the years since the case was closed, he’s discovered a web of deceit and betrayal surrounding the Thomases that could implicate any number of people in the crime. With the help of the dead woman’s friend, he plans to gather everyone who was there the night Christopher died and finally uncover the truth, suspect by suspect. Solving this case may be Nunn’s last chance for redemption…but the shadowy forces behind Christopher’s death will stop at nothing to silence the past forever.

In this innovative storytelling approach, each of these twenty-five bestselling writers brings their distinctive voice to a chapter of the narrative, building the tension to a shocking, explosive finale. No Rest for the Dead is a thrilling, page-turning accomplishment that only America’s very best authors could achieve.

I was immediately captivated by this story. The drama, suspense, and edginess began on first page. I had fun trying to figure it out and did in the last few chapters. The most exciting part is the fact that almost all my favorite authors were writers. Great read!!!!

First of all, this book is interesting because twenty-six authors collaborated to write this story. You would think with this many authors (with different writing styles) the story would not flow well and would equal disaster. That is not the case with this book. The prologue really drew me into this book. It was gripping and a very strong start. As the story continued, it took many twists and turns and had me changing my "who-did-it" list over and over. It wasn't until page 199 (out of 256)that I truly had it figured out.I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good mystery-thriller read that keeps you guessing! One last thing that I thought was very special about this book is that all the proceeds (after author compensation) is donated to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Fabulous! I loved the different authors. Kept the book fresh. I could almost imagine them passing it on to the next person so they could put their twist on the story.

    I loved it, but...
In the introduction, David Baldacci said that if you think you know how this book ends, you're going to be wrong. Well, as much as I hate to say it, I figured it out before it ended. There was one part, no spoilers, that sadly pretty much gave everything away. With all of that being said, it is still a good book that I totally recommend.

Excellent! I had a good time but don't be fooled by the introduction. It was very easy to predict what happened. It's written right there in the title.

I was a bit skeptical about a book with several authors but they made it work!! The story is told in two parts, before the conviction & execution of a woman for her husband’s murder, and after. The disgraced police detective, who was responsible for the arrest and conviction of Rosemary Thomas, has lost a lot over the 10yrs since her execution. He still has nagging doubts about the conviction and decides to investigate. The investigation exposes greed that would amaze you. Recommend this story.

Solid story all the way through. No comments on any particular part of the story to insure not ruining it for others.
David's opening captured my attention. As each chapter's author was different, their styles quite unique yet consistently delivering deep and colorful perspective. My mind's eye was able to clearly envision every location and the actions of the characters.

It was interesting to read a book by 26 authors, but I felt this story was just a normal bestselling mystery; and I was hoping from something more than that. The change in the writing style between chapters was only slightly different and possibly undetectable for people who aren’t trying to find the differences. While it felt a little generic for me, I’m still glad I had the chance to read this book. There was some interesting twists and turns through this book to keep me going; some I saw coming, some I didn’t. Trying to pick the real killer of Chris was sometimes difficult; the guy was a real prink and I think everyone wanted him dead. If you enjoy any of these authors, or just want to test drive their style then this book is a good place to start.

Listened into the wee hours of the morning. Brain twisters and some blind alleys. Suspected husband involved from the get-go. Loved the format, each author strutting their style and yet able to come together and shine as a group. Bravo!! More, more!!

When Christopher Thomas, a curator at San Francisco's Museum of Fine Arts, is murdered and his decaying body is found in an iron maiden in Berlin, his wife Rosemary Thomas is the prime suspect. Long suffering under Christopher's unfaithful ways, Rosemary is tried, convicted and executed. Ten years later, Jon Nunn, the detective who cracked the case, becomes convinced that the wrong person was put to death. Along with financier Tony Olsen, he plans to gather everyone who was there the night Christopher died and finally uncover the truth about what happened that fateful evening. Could it have been the ne'er do well brother Peter Hausen, interested in his sister's trust fund having got through his own; the curatorial assistant Justine Olengard, used and betrayed by Christopher; the artist Belle who turned down his advances only to see her career suffer a setback; or someone else all together? My Thoughts:Just like when you get all the currant pop stars together to create a charity single, this book is one story by 26 of well known authors for a charity. The story was really good and in true crime fashion there is the big reveal at the end and I did guess who it was. There was plenty of tension and enough to keep me turning the pages. I just cannot say enough how this good this book was. There wasn’t a problem for me that the book was by 26 different authors and it seemed that they all worked well together for the final story and the book flowed as if it had been just one author.I would highly recommend this book for any crime fan and well done at all the authors for such a unique reading experience for me.

I loved the book. I thought It was so clever the way the different authors have introduced me to their work seamlessly and skilled in doing do so. They are pros and worked so hard to make the story gel.

I really enjoyed this book. The idea that each chapter was written by a different author and was both intriguing and amazing. You could sense the different styles but each chapter carried the characters,
    the edge and momentum.

Twenty-six mystery writers combine their talents to create one story about a woman who is put to death after being wrongly accused of her husband's murder. The ending is not unexpected in this depressing story, which tracks the mystery and the lives of each character before and after the execution. The authors' voices and styles are blended well except for the beginning of a few chapters which may throw readers for a bit as the story changes authors. The best part of the story is the fact that proceeds go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

I thought this was pretty great the story itself was ok, but I loved the collaboration of 26 mystery writers each continuing the same story. I’ve never read some of the writers, so it was great to get an idea of their style of writing.

You would think that 26 bestselling mystery writers could come up with an incredible plot, scintillating dialogue and an unforgettable read. Well, they didn't -- not in this story. It was very predictable, not interesting at all and very forgettable.

Ten years ago Jon Nunn investigated the murder of a museum curator. A murder performed in a most unlikely way. All evidence pointed to Rosemary Thomas having killed her husband in a jealous rage. Ten years ago Jon Nunn was convinced he had the right suspect and had even gone to her execution. However, the case always haunted him in some of its inconsistencies eventually costing him his job and his marriage. Can the case finally be solved on the eve of an odd memorial to Rosemary ten years after her execution.

The interesting thing about this book is that it was written by 26 different authors. A virtual who’s who of mystery and thriller writers including, Sandra Brown, Diana Galbaldon, Tess Gerritson, Alexander McCall Smith, Kathy Reichs … the lists goes on and on. With a talent pool as deep as this one would expect a well crafted story. And it was. The thing that did not work for me was the fact that the writing styles were so different and the fact that some of the book was narrated and some of the book was written in first person. It detracted from the flow of the story. Despite that it was a good who-done-it, with a suspect list as long as the book’s list of authors. An interesting twist at the end, that a reader may or may not see coming wrapped it all up nicely.
