About this audiobook

"Jews and Irish Catholics did not often marry each other in the 1970s. Lynn and I did. A few mishaps, an AWOL rabbi, a long delay and a riotous reception, all combined for a hugely memorable day."

The Wedding is the sequel to the more popular Nicholas Sparks book, The Notebook. The Wedding occurs a few years after the death of Allie, and the central character in the story is Wilson, husband to Allie and Noah's daughter Jane. Wilson is trying to atone for a forgotten anniversary and to win his wife's love once again. This was a really nice story, even if it was a bit predictable at times. However, I did NOT see the end coming! Wilson's plan was very risky, but definitely worth it. I also really liked how the story changed between the present and the past. The transitions between the two were well done and easily understood.I would have liked to see more of Jane's emotions, but since the story was told from Wilson's perspective, that would have been difficult.I really enjoyed reading this book! But of course, I am a HUGE Nicholas Sparks fan, so I am a little biased. I still have a few more Sparks books to read, and I can't wait!

A beautiful sequel to "The Notebook" and as wonderfully romantic, though it doesn't start out that way. I cried at the end.

A five star book in its own right, portions of 'The Wedding' held up stronger than the love story of Noah and Allie from 'The Notebook'.

If you are a fan of romantic love stories, this is DEFINITELY for you. I knew there was a reason that I was somehow drawn to this book even after going through so many others.

I cried THREE times in the first chapter alone. THREE! Maybe part of it was because I could relate to how Jane was feeling. But then the story unfolds so beautifully that the last part got me crying again, to the point my vision was blurred and I couldn't read A WORD on the page.

Maybe it's just me, but even A Walk To Remember and The Notebook didn't make me cry so much. T_T

Nicholas Sparks, I think you've truly outdone yourself with this.

I enjoyed this one of Sparks' works very much. I could relate so much to the middle age couple who had lost the spark in their marriage and Wilson works for an entire year to plan a special even for their 30th anniversary. It's never too late to rekindle the romance.

Although 97% of this book is far too gentle to be called "funny", the ending is hilarious, to me.... Anyway, it's written gently and with great care. (9/10)

Knock me over with a feather!! -- I didn't anticipate the way the story would turn out. Chalk it up to great storytelling and/or a wonderful imagination, or perhaps that I was reading this right on the tails of having read Spark's very first novel, 'The Notebook', which was the 'prelude' to this, but I was totally emotionally drawn into this book. I won't begin to dissect my feelings and sentiments here, which perhaps were still raw from the previous book, other than to say, like its predecessor, (many) tissues were needed.

Note: 'The Notebook' and 'The Wedding' can be read independently, but reading in sequence, you'd be better able to follow the progression of, Noah Calhoun, the central character who spans both novels -- which adds a generational richness to the 'series', and understandably the need for all said tissue papers.

This reader believes in "happy ever after" and hence, this novel, very much like its predecessor, is a MUST READ!

I actually read this in light of Sparks's recently announced divorce, and that may color a bit what I thought of the book. I found it entertaining and a nice read, but I won't reread it. It bordered on the unrealistic, and when I do read romance, which isn't often, I don't want it to be "realistic" fantasy. I enjoyed the twist in the end and thought that Sparks did a good job with that. No spoilers, however. You'll have to read it for yourself.

very good; interesting twist - the wedding the mother plans is her restatement of vows, not her daughter's wedding at all

Story was okay, a little predictable. In the same vein as Sparks' other novels, but overall it was enjoyable.

This is an icky, sentimental story about a husband who forgets his 29th wedding anniversary, and goes into the painful details of the elaborate scheme he has for making it up to his wife. The story didn't touch me at all. Its North Carolina setting added to its dullness. I can't believe someone recommended this novel to me. This is the first Nicholas Sparks book I've read; likely to be the last as well.

After having read The Notebook several years ago and loving it, I was very excited when I found out there was a sequel. Unfortunately, The Wedding did not live up to my expectations at all. It follows Wilson Lewis, who married one of Noah and Allie's daughters and, after having forgotten their twenty-ninth wedding anniversary, works tirelessly to win back his wife's love. I really liked the surprise ending, but I found the novel to be dull and repetitive for the first three-quarters, even though I sympathized with Wilson's plight. I was really hoping for more from some of the original characters of The Notebook, and Noah's small role left me disappointed. It was a quick read that didn't really hit it's mark with me.

The Notebook was the first book that I read by Nicholas Sparks and I recall tears streaming down my face as I read the entire story. Dear John had a similar affect on me so I was a bit apprehensive when a friend of mine suggested that I listen to the audiobook of The Wedding. I wasn't sure what to expect from this story but my friend assured me that I would enjoy the book and that I would be happy with the outcome. You may remember the heartbreaking love story between Noah and Allie from The Notebook. The Wedding picks up after Allie has passed away and Noah has decided to continue living at the assisted living center as his health has been failing. They managed to raise some wonderful, God-fearing children that have his best interests at heart. We get a close look at the life that their daughter Jane lived after she married Wilson thirty years before.Wilson and Jane met and fell in love during their college years. Shortly after graduating from college they married and started a family together. They did everything that they needed to in order to raise happy and well-rounded children, but somewhere along the way they started taking separate paths. Even though they still lived under the same roof they found they weren't communicating or even wanting to do little things to please each other any longer. When Wilson forgets their anniversary Jane is so heartbroken and distraught that he really cannot be surprised when her emotions and attitude seem to be at an all time low.Wilson realizes that his marital relationship is declining so he decides to confide in his father-in-law Noah, in an attempt to mend what he feels he has broken. He is enlightened when he learns that life for Noah and Allie wasn't always the perfect love story that their children talk about, but they actually had rough patches just like most ordinary couples do. Knowing this information gave Wilson hope that he could win the love of his wife once again. This was such an inspiring story to listen to as I think many couples seem to lose their way after so many years of marriage. Whether you are letting the romance or friendship fade, or just taking each other for granted it really is a wake-up call to let you know that it is possible to stop heading down that road and start your relationship over. Tom Wopat did a wonderful job of narrating this novel and I just loved listening to him. Some of you may remember him from his role as Luke Duke from The Dukes of Hazzard! He was my favorite Duke brother then and he still is after listening to this book. I don't usually enjoy romances myself, but because this seemed like such a probable situation I found myself thoroughly enjoying this audiobook.

Ok, I GET IT! is how I felt the entire book. I've read two other Sparks book and this one just didn't deliver. It was repetetive and could have been shortened by half the size! The ending was fabulous and romantic (aren't they all) but I'm still not sure it was worth wading through the whole first half of the book. It will take me awhile to pick up another Sparks book after this one. Lost my faith a little here...

In The Wedding, a small town lawyer has an epiphany that he's been neglecting his wife and works to change and prove to her his devotion. Nicholas Spark's premise here raises questions many people probably can relate to struggling with: How do you show love? Have your life sacrifices been worthwhile? What is the value of a marriage, and what is the value of individuals in a marriage? However the opportunity to explore these questions is squandered- the characters here are so earnest and static, and live in a such an idealized world as to render them contrived, and their happy ending unsatisfying. Ultimately, the whole novel comes off as a white, middle-aged, upper-middle class housewife fantasy rather than delving into true nature of martial strife and personal transformation. I could easily see it as a satire of those values it espouses- if it showed any self-awareness (or if any of the characters did). The one bright note among the otherwise flat greeting-card characters is ironically Noah Calhoun, the achingly romantic husband from The Notebook. He steps out in relief by providing the most realistic and insightful 'voice' into the struggle to live the best life in between idealized love and heartbreaking reality. The prose here is particularly pedestrian- almost snooze-worthy. Appearing to shoot for straight-forward, it instead lands at painfully devoid of any nuance or subtlety for the reader to interpret or understand.I wouldn't call it a bad novel. It just lacks any redeeming quality. Life is short, spend it with your loved ones.

This book was amazingly sweet and tender. I put off reading this book for so long because I thought "how could a continuance of The Notebook be any good? And how could anything compare to the original masterpiece." Boy was I wrong. I thought this book was beautiful in the way he works so hard to win his wife back to him. I passed this book to my mom because I knew she would love it just as much as I did... if not more.

Pass this one up. I grabbed it because it was a follow up to "'The Notebook'" and I really liked that one. But this one is about the grown children and I found it, all in all, a major disappointment. I didn't think it nearly up to par with anything else I have read of Nicholas Sparks. As I read it, it felt like he was just trying to make more off "The Notebook".It was sappy, boring, predictable and I am really glad it is not the first Sparks for me or I wouldn't have read another.

I wasn't going to give this one 5 stars, but the more I think about it the more I think it really deserved it. The reason I wasn't going to do 5 stars is that I honestly knew the ending close to the beginning of the book. However as the story progressed I began doubting myself and eventually gave up my original notion. But I was right. I think that the fact that the ending was so well covered up was a great writing feat.I honestly didn't know what to expect from this one. I've never read Nicholas Sparks and I've not seen any of the movies based on his books. I think I have found another author to add to my list of favorites. The story starts with a man who forgets his anniversary. While he decides that he needs to rekindle his romance with the woman he loves we get to see them fall in love all over again. Through the book there are flashbacks to when Wilson and Jane fell in love the first time. That is one of the great things about this book. We get to see them fall in love twice. Not only is this a book that proves true love can always prevail but it shows that even when you think love is lost there is always hope. It may not be easy, but love never is.The beautiful story is made even better with the beautiful landscapes describe in perfect detail. Sparks give enough information for you to get the whole picture without giving so much that the details become mundane. In my head all the landscapes were oil paintings, I think this is more from the cover art, but even without the cover art I would imagine my mind going to a beautiful oil painting anyway.I got very engrossed in this book. Surprisingly I did not cry at the end, which is usually characteristic of me. But I was so moved by the story that I think crying would have distracted me a bit.

I read this book because I loved The Notebook so much. For me....it was slow until about 3/4 of the way thru. But I couldn't put it down, I was hoping so bad for it to pick up. The end is when it really captured me. The romance really kicked in and the the ending was surprising in a good way.
