I haven't been reading the series in order but I'm starting NOW to catch up with the ones I have missed! Andy Carpenter and Tara, the "dog that will never die" is just wonderful escapism -- his quirks are just perfect!!

In this fourth Andy Carpenter mystery, Andy is hired to defend Kenny Schilling who is the new star running back for the New York Giants. He is accused of murdering Troy Preston who is another player for the Giants. Things don't start off well for Andy or for Kenny. They meet when Kenny is holding off the police from entering his home where Preston's body is found stuffed in a closet. As Andy and his team investigate, they learn that Preston was not only using drugs but selling them. In order to prove reasonable doubt, Andy explores the possibility that Preston was killed by a local drug dealer which angers the dealer enough to put a hit out on Andy requiring him to seek protection from Marcus and his dog rescue partner Willie. But Preston's death is not the only one with a possible link to Kenny. He was in Wisconsin at a hunting party composed of fellow football players when one of the players died in an accidental shooting. As a young man named Adam who came to New Jersey to write a potential movie script about Andy's role in Willie Miller's successful trial begins helping Andy investigate this case, he soon learns that that wasn't the only death that happened near Kenny. And when Adam is murdered in Andy's office the first thought is that he was killed by the drug dealer in a case of mistaken identity. But the fact that his notes were stolen leads to a different conclusion. Is Andy defending a possible serial killer? And, while all of this is going on, Andy is dealing with personal life difficulties. His girlfriend Laurie has an opportunity to move back to her hometown in Wisconsin and get back into law enforcement. She spends the whole book making up her mind about what she wants for her future. This was another excellent episode in the Andy Carpenter series.

Another fun weekend read, featuring Andy Carpenter my favourite smart-ass lawyer.
This time he is involved in a crime that brings him close to one of his main passtimes, sport, and NFL football.

Kenny Shilling a rising football star is accused of murdering a fellow footballer. The evidence is damning until Andy gets involved and managed to unravel the mystery.
Uncomplicated plot that can be followed in the audio version without much difficultly. This is a type of book that you can enjoy while doing household chores or in the car.

This is the latest in the series featuring attorney, Andy Carpenter. Like the rest, this is not a heavy read at all. But it is good. The plot is particularly excellent. Andy's called when pro football player Kenny Shillings is the only suspect in the high profile murder of player from another team. Good characters - even the bad ones.

I like Rosenfelt's mysteries but it seems like his clients are often framed. It's not that the police made a mistake deliberately, it's that like the real killer framed his client in several of the mysteries of his that I've read, including this one. I may be reading them too closely together so it's very obvious but nevertheless, I like them enough to keep reading. I've read 5 all together so far.

angst, the-mob, dogs, law-enforcement, lawyers, murder, murder-investigation *****The body in the closet, the NFL star with a smoking gun, the clueless lawyer, the regular Mob boss, the crazed Mob boss, and the murder trial from hell all factor into this compelling read. The suspense is awful and the characters certainly are, but I just couldn't put it down! Didn't hurt that there were references to Milwaukee, Norway, and Jeremiah.

Caught with a dead body in his closet, and being the last person seen with the deceased the night before, Kenny Schilling seems to the police to be the prime and only suspect in the killing. But Kenny hires Andy Carpenter for his lawyer, and the more Andy digs into the case, the more Kenny appears to be innocent. It's up to Andy to track down the real killer in order to save Kenny from what seems to all concerned to be an open-and-shut case. But even Andy is fooled for a while. A quick read that will be hard to put down, this novel is another great tale in a wonderful series.

Another fun, twisty mystery. I'm glad we didn't get into Kevin's hypochondria any more. That never fit very well.

This is another in Rosenfelt's fast paced mystery/ court room drama series. I did not like it nearly as much as the others. it seemed formulaic and I solved it WAY too soon. I like a little surprise please. Had this been the first one I read, I wouldn't bother with the others.
