About this audiobook
The world has entered a second nuclear age. For the first time since the end of the Cold War, the threat of nuclear annihilation is on the rise. Should such an assault occur, there is a strong likelihood that the trail of devastation will lead back to Abdul Qadeer Khan, the Pakistani father of the Islamic bomb and the mastermind behind a vast clandestine enterprise that has sold nuclear secrets to Iran, North Korea, and Libya.
Khan's loose-knit organization was and still may be a nuclear Wal-Mart, selling weapons blueprints, parts, and the expertise to assemble the works into a do-it-yourself bomb kit. Amazingly, American authorities could have halted his operation, but they chose instead to watch and wait. Khan proved that the international safeguards the world relied on no longer worked.
Journalists Douglas Frantz and Catherine Collins tell this alarming tale of international intrigue through the eyes of the European and American officials who suspected Khan, tracked him, and ultimately shut him down, but only after the nuclear genie was long out of the bottle.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The music was a distraction. It made it hard to hear at times.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent investigative journalism exposing double standards by the US. This was a very interesting read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent in the revelation of how and when Pakistan got the bomb where if we wanted to we could have prevented. Very good investigative report on the politics of foreign policies and the proliferation of nuclear weapons throughout the Middle East and Asia including the spanning of 5 Presidencies. How Khan spread the technology for Country pride however to also monetize on its revelation. Must read...
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really thoughtful work on the history of nuclear proliferation from the end of WWII to Libya's surrendering of their stockpile.
Talks about Eisenhower's Atoms for Peace Program helping Countries set up Nuclear Plants for energy.
Goes into detail about the Life of A. Q. Khan and his driving ambition to do whatever he could to create enough highly enriched uranium to build a bomb for his homeland.
I now have a better understanding how the black market works for acquiring the equipment needed to create this weapons grade uranium.
Both enlightening (the explanation of the centrifuge and enrichment process) and disturbing (the Herculean task of trying to prevent bad Actors from making a bomb).
Highly recommend. The Narrator was superb. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The information provided explains how the rest of the world the next and why the United States is in the current predicament that it is in. In short and domestically speaking, politicians on both sides of the isle have let the American people. Bottom-line: trust no one foreign or domestic!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Informative and didn't drag on. Needs a North Korea update.
