About this audiobook
Elizabeth Woodville is a woman of extraordinary beauty and ambition. Her mother is Jacquetta, also known as the mystical lady of the rivers, and she is even more determined to bring power and wealth to the family line. While riding in the woods one day, Elizabeth captures the attentions of the newly crowned King Edward IV and, despite her common upbringing, marries him in secret.
When she is raised up to be his queen, the English court is outraged, but Elizabeth rises to the demands of her exalted position and fights for her family’s dominance. Yet despite her best efforts, and even with the help of her mother’s powers, her two sons become pawns in a famous unsolved mystery that has confounded historians for centuries: the lost princes in the Tower of London.
In this dazzling account of the deadly Wars of the Roses, brother turns on brother to win the ultimate prize: the throne of England.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Every time I start a new Philippa Gregory novel I think it can't possibly be any better than the previous one. I'm wrong almost every time. The White Queen, in my opinion is the best so far! Keep them coming!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It’s hard to believe how factual this fascinating book is. Of course it is mostly fictional, but the author had some great deductions and sound arguments on things we’ll never know.
A woman beautiful enough to tempt a king into marriage, also a descendant of Burgundy royalty and (as she believes) a water goddess. And her mother was convicted of witchcraft...I couldn’t put this one down.1 person found this helpful

Wis that I could listen all over again it l cannot access,
Internet - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Writing not nearly as fine as Hilary Mantel who writes about this same historical period, but the story seems well-researched. Enjoyed this as part of the trilogy. Reader was excellent.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Historical and fascinating read with a love story that melts and breaks your heart.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was the first book by Philippa Gregory that I listened to. I saw "The White Queen" on tv and was impressed by the detail to detail! It was a short road, then, to starting with "The White Queen" and listening to every book in the series. I can't say enough good things about the listenability/readability of this series. The intrigue of marrying a commoner, the role the Tower played in both religion and politics, the way people behaved at court and how their life and concerns changed away from court and more. The story was captivating, and when looking back on history with an eye of how this period fit into what came before it and what followed...it explained a lot. I've been through the entire series (I have both audio and written books) and will again enjoy the series from start to finish in the not too distant future. The narration was masterful.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I’ve always loved the TV show and this book was fun
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love the way history is brought alive in this and Gregory's other novels. It was a joy!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoyed it, but wish it wasn't written in first person. We missed so much of the other stuff going on around Elizabeth. Usually the book is better than the television series, but in this case i think the television series have us more insight into the other characters and resulted in a richer story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved it!!! History come to life in this consuming tale.
