Typical Ward, I liked this one better than the 1st, Covet. Based on fallen angel Jim Heron battling for lost souls. Issac Rothe was a decent character as was Greir Childes, the two love interests, you got to know Matthias and what a cold s.o.b he is. What I would've liked was for her to expound the detailing of protagonist Jim Heron's torment by the demon Devina. While you know what happened, I think she went easy on it. Of course you have the Wardens own special way of speaking, her slang makes me smile.

I enjoyed the first book of this series, Covet, but felt there was too much of a disconnect because the main character, Jim, was not the romanic hero in the story and I didn't really care for Vin as the romantic lead. I wasn't really looking forward to Crave but thought I would give it a shot. I'm very glad I did. I liked the story of Isaac and Grier. I'm starting to see Jim more like Acheron in Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series, and hope ward gives Jim his own story at some point in the series. I'll definitely read the next book in the series.

This is the first time I'm offering a review here and I'm doing it a bit backwards so forgive any mistakes. Like most who have already enjoyed JR Ward as an author, I loved BDB and was looking forward to this sort of spin off series Fallen Angels. I read The Covet which I'll review eventually, but I really enjoyed Crave the second in the series. First off with most of JRW books you can not skip any in the series or you'll be completely lost, Crave begins with the second crossroads cases for new angel Jim Jerron and his very fun hardcore band of not so merry men. He has to defeat an old foe, contend with his own demons and short comings, get use to his new powers, get over his past AND save the day. Lol, in short Jims afterlife sucks ass! That's not even mentioning the ominous council of angels that conveniently show up to throw around the occasional monkey wrench. I found the book amlittle convoluted in some areas but always entertaining. The romance between the secondary characters Grier and Isaac is believable (unlike the first book in the series). The action in moments had me clutching my pearls, there are parts that leave you completely gutted (spoiler)Jims torcher scene in the book was really well written you understood him a bit more when he emerged from the hell of it. His recovery with his pal and fellow do gooder brings a tear to the eye. But you get it together because these are tough SOB's and they wouldn't appreciate your sniveling. The wrap up of this battle is unexpected, especially because JRW is usually pretty predictable and I really appreciated the stroll away from the norm. Sure it had me screaming at my IPod (listened on audiobook) but even that wasn't so bad. All in all I really enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the next.OH the sex between Isaac and Grier is pretty fuckhot. Just saying....

First let me say that I love the Black Dagger Brotherhood series overall. However, this new series is just not grabbing me like BDB. The first one - Covet - was ok, but this one was almost painful to finish.I found myself really not liking the main relationship characters much. If I don't care about them, how am I supposed to care about the whole thing? I really do like Jim and the battles he seems to struggle with. But seeing as how he isn't the entire story, that's certainly not going to work for me, huh? However, in an odd way, I do look forward to future ones. I want to know how the whole Jim/Devina thing continues, and I know Ms. Ward is capable of some pretty awesome intricate story work. So, here's hopin' for better in the future.

This is the second book in the fallen angel series. I really love the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, and I am frustrated to find this series just mediocre. It is a lot better than a lot of other series that I have read, so I will keep at it. Isaac was a member of the XOp, but he wanted out. So he went AWOL. Only thing is, the only way out is death.I really looking forward to the next BDB book that comes out in March. I thought the series was over with, so it was a welcome surprise.

While I still feel that J.R. Ward's books are immensely readable, Crave proved to be the first time I've contemplated seriously giving her up. The plot of this book made absolutely no sense whatsoever, characters made choices that defied logic and seemed designed simply as a means to provide gratuitous scenes of torture. The central conflict of the story is convoluted and unclear - I have no idea what these people are fighting against and the rules of the game are ever changing. And I've finally reached the point where Ward's bending of the English language into her own unique form of slang is so ubiquitous and obvious that I can't ignore it and am constantly pulled out of the story to roll my eyes. I think I may have finally broken my Ward book-crack habit.

JIm the semi angelic angel has another soul to save in this horrible game, between good and evil. I have a big problem with the constant reference to it being a game. It is a very sick game and Jim is willing to sell his body and soul not to lose his game pieces(souls). I was in sock at the sudden sexual torture scene in the story, no what it was but how it was described. I would have liked to use more of my imagination. All through the rest of the book I had that horrible vision of Jim on Devina's table, ick. It ruined the rest of the story for me. Jim is too sacrificing, yes that is possible.

I found this to be a big improvement from the first Fallen Angels book, "Covet". The main characters were more interesting, the story was more lively, and now I can really see the potential of this series. Yes, it's different from Ward's very popular Black Dagger Brotherhood series, but there are still all the elements that one looks for from this author: a hunky, hyper-masculine hero with carefully buried threads of vulnerability; a strong, realistic heroine who goes after what she wants; sizzling sex appeal; a motley group of side characters; just enough violence to make things interesting; and a larger story arc that unfolds a little more with each book. Now, I don't think this book can come completely out of the shadow of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, but if you like edgy paranormal romance then you should give this series a try. Absolutely do read "Covet" first, though; Ward does a great job of refreshing readers' memories, but you'll be better off with some background knowledge.

Some reviewers said they liked the first book better than this second one. I can see where they are coming from. We learn a lot more about Jim’s past in black ops but his mission of saving seven souls seemed to go haywire. What the heck is going on? What are the rules and why the heck does it seem the angels and holding Jim back? I’m hoping this is one of those things that gets explained in the next book. I’m not into the romance. I’m thinking it’s a mood right now. I was much more interested in Jim than I was in Isaac and Grier. But if you like romance, they are pretty good romance scenes, but graphic so beware. But I like Jim enough that I don’t mind reading the other POVs while waiting on him. It keeps me flipping pages. I’ll definitely be reading the next book in this series. It’s classic Ward style. And I like Ward’s writing and characters. Looking forward to more from her.

Crave is the second book in J. R. Ward's Fallen Angels series, and overall it was a good story. However, I felt that this one, perhaps more so than the first in the series, focused a little more on the urban fantasy elements rather than the romance. I've always admired Ms. Ward's ability to create engaging stories with characters who exhibit a great deal of depth and for whom I can root. In that respect, Crave was no exception, but where I felt it fell rather flat was in the relationship development. I know from her Black Dagger Brotherhood series that the author is quite capable of creating deeply emotional romances that make me, as the reader, feel like I'm a part of a great love affair, but the hero and heroine's relationship in Crave didn't quite have that same spark of connection that I've felt in many of her other books. Otherwise though, it was a good story that advanced the overall plot arc of the battle between good and evil.Isaac is nothing if not a fighter. For several years, he's worked as a mercenary in a covert ops group known as XOps, and during that time, he carried out several assassinations. Now, things have changed for him and he wants out, but the guys in charge aren't about to let him go so easily. In their minds, the only way out of XOps is death. To avoid becoming the next target of an XOps operative, Isaac has been trying to lay low and earn enough money to pay the bills by cage fighting. His cover is blown though, when he's arrested in a police raid on the illegal fighting ring. His life takes another unexpected turn when he meets his beautiful public defender. She makes him long for things he shouldn't want and believes he can never have because of his jaded past. The thing I loved most about Isaac was that he can very much be the gentleman. He has a proper side that seems to be at odds with his rough nature, but I felt like it showed him to have scruples despite the seemingly terrible things he's done. I just loved the way he treated Grier like the well-bred lady that she was, and that he was willing to sacrifice himself to ensure her safety. I also liked that he had a vulnerable side and that deep down, he really wanted a future with a woman like Grier by his side.Grier comes from a wealthy family, but as she soon finds out, her own father, who is her only living relative, has some pretty big secrets of his own. Grier's brother, Daniel, died of a drug overdose and ever since, he sometimes appears to her as a ghost. I thought this was an interesting angle, which gave the story another supernatural side apart from the angels and demons. Grier harbors guilt over her brother's death, thinking that she somehow could have saved him, which is why she volunteers her services as a public defender. She hopes to help other people in the way she couldn't help Danny. I liked that despite Grier being obviously well-off, she had a willingness to go into the trenches, so to speak, and help others in need. Her attraction to her client, Isaac, is almost immediate, and she thinks she sees similarities to her brother in him, which drives her to go above and beyond the call of duty. She posts his bail and then is determined to see that he doesn't leave town before going to trial, even if that means bringing him into her own home to keep an eye on him. Of course, she soon finds out that Isaac is much more than a mere cage fighter and that his past is dangerous and frightening. I like that Grier was able to give Isaac the strength to try to come forward and do the right thing even if it meant him going into the witness protection program and her probably never seeing him again. I also liked her strength and resilience which made her unwilling to take crap from anyone, but at the same time, she had a softer, more relatable side which cared deeply about other people. As I said before, I felt like the weak link here was Isaac and Grier's romance. Things go from zero to sixty between them almost in a heartbeat, and the whole story plays out over a matter of days. Although I liked Isaac's vulnerability during their first love scene, I didn't really start to feel a true connection between them until their third love scene (which is also the last full love scene in the book). Up to that point, they'd been through a lot together, which easily could have heightened their emotions, but it just didn't feel like enough upon which to base a lifetime commitment or even their declarations of love. There's also some time during which the pair are separated and Isaac allows Grier to believe some things about him that aren't entirely true for her own protection. I felt like this short period of distrust only added to the distance that IMHO hadn't been fully bridged yet at that point. Their final little reunion scene was sweet and romantic, but again, not quite enough to make me fully buy into a lasting love. Isaac's eleventh hour turnaround was also made with little explanation except that he needed some time to get his head on straight, and after giving it some thought, realized he wanted to give a more serious relationship with Grier a try away from all the danger and drama.Probably the biggest strength of the book, in my opinion, was the ongoing story of Jim Heron and his fallen angels sidekicks Adrian and Eddie, as well as their continued supernatural battle with the demon Devina. Jim is surprisingly unaffected by the heinous tortures Davina devises for him in this book until she pulls out the emotional big guns. Nothing affects him more deeply than the twin losses he suffered in which he blames himself for not being there in time to save his mother when he was a boy or the young girl Davina sacrificed in the last book. He's determined to save the girl's soul even though he wasn't able to save her in life. Jim also begins to exhibit some new and intriguing powers that may some day be Davina's undoing. While getting to Jim may have been a challenge for Davina, the same cannot be said of Adrian, who sacrificed himself in the last book to keep Davina occupied. He's still suffering the after-effects of being Davina's “plaything.” The person... er, angel... who is there for him the most is his long-time friend, Eddie, and it seems their relationship may go a bit deeper than just friends. Davina is the character I love to hate for her pure evilness, manipulations, and everything she does to the guys. However, she shows some interesting vulnerabilities in this story that may end up being the key to defeating her. While their hands may be tied in certain matters relating to the battle, Nigel and Colin, the angels from the heavenly realm, are there to provide some assistance and guidance for our boys on Earth. I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention Jim's scruffy little dog, Dog, who is still an adorable little furball.Overall, I enjoyed Crave for the strength of its urban fantasy aspects and the advancement of that part of the story arc. I look forward to seeing where things go from here and how the battle progresses. If only the romance had been stronger, this easily could have been a five-star read. It's just that when I've read other books by J. R. Ward in which the romance made me swoon, Isaac and Grier's relationship simply seemed to pale by comparison. Even when the Warden doesn't hit it out of the ballpark, though, she still writes a pretty solid story, so I remain eager to continue with the series.

I couldn't finish this one because I couldn't deal with the whiplash back and forth between characters. I love J.R. Ward, she is one my all time favorite authors but I couldn't focus in this book at all and I just couldn't finish it. I don't think I will try the next one.

Crave by J.R. WardBook 2 of Fallen Angels seriesStop rubbing your eyes. It's for real. After being electrocuted in a construction accident, Jim Heron is back from the dead, and he's got backup in the form of two fallen angels, Adrian and Eddie. Before he can face down his nemesis, the demon Devina, Jim has a personal mission he needs to take care of first. He's determined to track down a former black-ops buddy, Isaac Rothe, who has gone AWOL, before their heartless boss, Matthias, finds him first. Rothe knows too much classified information to be allowed to return to civilian life. In their field, there is no retirement, there is only death, so Isaac has been targeted for assassination.Isaac's location is exposed after he is busted during an underground cage fighting match. His pro bono lawyer, Grier Childe, although a bit afraid of his icy stare and physical appearance, sees something in his southern manners that makes her want to help him. After Grier has a personal run-in with Matthias, Isaac is loathe to leave town without making sure she is safe first, so he makes contact and prepares to face Matthias and his own demise.Meanwhile, Devina is up to her old tricks and pulls Jim down into hell with her for a torture session. He seems to have a stronger source of power which is noticeably different from the other fallen angels but is as yet undetermined. This intrigues the other angels and Devina as well; however, it also frustrates her as he refuses to succumb to her torturous devices. She resorts to using his compassion and emotions against him, by introducing him to the young woman Jim found murdered in Devina's apartment in the last book (Cecelia "Sissy" Barten), and who is now trapped in Devina's lair. She weighs heavy on his mind and heart; he already feels a connection toward her, and she will obviously become an important part of the story in future books.Grier's involvement with Isaac opens up a can of worms in her own life, as she learns of some secrets her father has been keeping for a number of years, including information about her brother's death. Good and bad, morals, ethics, personal beliefs, etc. all become muddled as black and white becomes murky grey. Is it possible to help all the lost souls? If not, how to determine who can still be led in the right direction once they are at a crossroads? Are they even worth it or should they pay the price for their past decisions? In this case, Jim has found another soul worth saving and he's determined to win this second battle of Good v. Evil.

Wow, I loved this one. I'm surprised that good didn't win. But I guess if the way JR Ward is doing this series, if one side gets 4 "wins" then they win, I should have expected the angels to lose. But I guess how usually there's the HEA, I guess I just assumed that good would always win. NOT. lol. Although there is def still a HEA.
The fact that the whole story Jim was protecting Isaac and it turns out that the soul he was suppose to save was actually his old boss Matthias, was a really great twist. I think the rest of the series will be amazing.

Love this book! How horrible am I that I like Isaac better than Jim Herron? I really wanted Isaac to come back as an angel...maybe later, huh? I can wish. This book moved a lot better than the first in the series. I guess now that the foundation has been laid, the stories can flow easier. Great tension between the hero and heroine, love scenes were awesome and the battles between good and evil were heartbreaking and joyous. I'm looking forward to Envy now :)

One of my favorite tropes! I love a good hero falls for best friends little sister, I cannot explain it but these types of books always turn out to be my favorites. Archer Bancroft starts out as a cocky, arrogant jerk and I could not wait to watch him fall hard. Then there is Ivy who is a hellcat when it comes to Archer, she wants the man that she knows he is, not the man he portrays to the rest of the world. The banter between the two is hot and feisty, and the romance is even hotter! I will give Archer this, he his a sneaky little bastard the way he ropes Ivy into his world so he doesn't lose her. He offers her an opportunity that is too good to turn down and she definitely reciprocates. The bet Matt, Gage and Archer made was going to be trouble from the very beginning and Archer ends of playing right into Matt's hand. The camaraderie between the three is typical playboy "We Rule the World!", and in the end I was looking forward to Matt and Gage following suit behind Archer. Monica Murphy is very subtle when she lets out hints about Matt and Gage and it left me want to know more about the bachelors and who the women would be that brought them down. Make sure to check out Crave, it is a wonderfully spun world and you will fall in love with these characters!Happy Reading!

I enjoyed Crave, but I was a little frustrated with the plot and wanted more from Archer and Ivy’s romance. There wasn’t really much to the plot as it focused almost exclusively on Archer & Ivy and I would have loved to be more engaged in an overall story line.Archer & Ivy had a very promising start to the novel. They bicker a lot, but its clear that its because there is something more to their relationship that they need to explore. They fall into bed pretty quickly, which is fine, but a good chunk of their scenes involved sex and I just didn’t really believe in their love. I wanted to, but we read more about them screwing then seeing them interact on an intellectual level.Since the whole plot is devoted to Archer and Ivy’s feelings for each other (and how they express that physically), there is really no action, adventure, or mystery to speak of. It is a short, quick read that can be finished in a couple of hours when you’re in the mood for something light and fluffy. While I adore love stories, Crave had too much physical intimacy without allowing the reader to really feel the sparks between Archer & Ivy. It was hard to root for them as a couple since we see more intimate moments than heartfelt ones. The pacing, however, is good and I did enjoy reading it. I recommend it when you’re in the mood for something light and quick as it is a fairly short story and can be read in just a few hours.

The second book in the Fallen Angels series continues with Jim Heron, the fallen angel from Covet, as he tries to save his second soul. Isaac Rothe is an XOps soldier trying to get out and start a new life. When he finds himself in jail, he meets Grier Childe, his public defender. Grier goes out of her way to help her new client, and their attraction grows into something hot and heavy. Although I liked this book as much as the first in the series, I did not really buy into Isaac and Grier's relationship. It was very superficial, and very, very quick. It was more physical than anything else, and yet somehow they still managed to fall in love. I did not feel that any of the characters were developed in this book as well as in the first, but we did get to see more of Jim, Adrian, and Eddie, who I adore. I loved that Ward gave us the twist at the end, making the reader and characters in the story realize that everything is not always as it seems. Just when you thought you had everything figured out, you realize you were wrong.I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next in the series!

I adore JR Ward's books! The Black Dagger Brotherhood books are probably in my top three favorite series of all time. I read a ton so that is saying A LOT. I was eager to start Ward's newest series, Fallen Angels and was pleased very much with the first book "Covet". Unfortunately "Crave" just was so-so for me. Honestly by any other author I would have been more wow'd but truth is that I have come to expect over and beyond with Ward's stories. The basic idea of the series is that there is a battle between Heaven and Hell. Each 'team' has agreed on one man, Jim, to be the middle man in a battle for 7 souls. If the soul in question goes dark, its a point for Hell. If the soul ends up on the side of good, Heaven gets the point. The plot of "Crave" features the soul of Isaac Rothe up for grabs. Isaac was a comrade of Jim's years ago on the XOps. Jim feels a strong personal pull to save Isaac's soul (for good, natch!). Issac has tried to disappear from the radar of the XOps. Unfortunately that doesn't usually happen. You have to usually be dead to get away from that group, no retiring here. He is living by fighting in underground matches. He gets picked up by police and meets a beautiful lawyer named Grier Childe, the daughter of a very prominent and wealthy man.I really like the idea of this series but for some reason the story just fell flat for me. Issac and Grier have a solid romance build into the story but I wanted so much more. This series is similar to BDB in that it features big, larger than life men and heroines who tame them. They also feature plenty of action and always have an enemy to overcome. The difference is that the Black Dagger men pull at my heart strings. I care about each and every one of them like I know them. And it was like that from the first book. Here I just don't feel invested in the characters. I don't dislike them but I don't feel that connection to them either. I didn't like the plot as much as I liked the plot in "Covet". Lots of readers suggest that this book surpasses the first in quality, but I disagree. I thought this volume was a step back. This is not a bad book. Its just not fabulous either. I do plan to read the next book in the series and I hope that I can connect to it more.

full review on talksupe.blogspot.comthese men are D.A.M.A.G.E.D. Adrian and Eddie, aside from their traumatic past with Devina, have a disturbing relationship reminiscent of the BDB's Butch and Vishous but while the Brothers' relationship is chaste, Adrian and Eddie is hardly platonic. It's implied that Ad and Eddie's M.O. is always a threesome, Adrian picks up the girl and brings her to Eddie and they partay. And though graphic, Ward has a fascination about men and masturbation and sexual abuse. Jim traded Matthias' temporary safety for a night with Devina and it's a far cry from their little tryst in his pick-up. It reminded me of Zsadist the Bloodslave but with hellhounds instead of human playthings.

Okay, the story of a man who wants out of the covert organisation he's in and receives help from a lawyer doing pro-bono work is interesting it just didn't gel well for me. I really didn't care enough for any of the characters and I'm not sure that they author did either! It's not the worst story I've ever read and I may read some more in the series, I just won't hunt them down.

Crave is the second book in the Fallen Angel series. Jim Heron and company once again battle for one soul with all mankind at stake. I just love these books. I had a bad week or I would have raced through it. I hated to have to put it down. The story is good. The action is exciting. I found myself really caring about the characters.I have to admit that the sex scenes were a bit more than I like, but they were definitely hot and I was only skimming them. I like the twists and turns Ward gives us. It keeps the reader and characters on their toes. I know the next in the series will be just as good. I just have this feeling.

It is about the same quality as Covet. It is not bad but certainly is not the Black Dagger Brotherhood stories, not even close. There is some sex, but it's kind of short and has little tension/build-up and is more ho-hum than thrilling. The story is independent of the series, but the characters are the same so you probably should read them in order.I'm not sure if I'll read the next in the series or not - it's so close to borderline average that the price of the audiobook when it comes out will probably be the deciding factor, more so than the story itself.
