About this audiobook

The ultimate secret. The ultimate agent. Nathaniel Cade returns. For 140 years, Nathaniel Cade has been the President's Vampire, sworn to protect and serve his country. Cade's existence is the most closely guarded of White House secrets: a superhuman covert agent who is the last line of defense against nightmare scenarios that ordinary citizens only dream of.When a new outbreak of an ancient evil-one that he has seen before- comes to light, Cade and his human handler, Zach Barrows, must track down its source. To "protect and serve" often means settling old scores and confronting new betrayals . . . as only a centuries-old predator can.

The action was still well done, but the characters seemed flat, and the plot a bit, well, silly. When the three Shadow Company agents were introduced as Book, Bell, and Candle, I was done. I couldn't take it seriously any more. I may try listening to the next book. Hopefully that volume will have more of the appeal of the first.

While listening:Not liking this one near as much as the first. It feels like half the smart alec humor is gone. Stripped away. It's took seven chapters to bring up the training manual, which has some of the better humor attached.More to come...

Long ago Nathaniel Cade swore a blood oath to protect the President of the United States and the country. He works as black ops taking care of the nasties that come from the Other Side. For the last century he's been working to exterminate reptilian hybrids -- what his handler Zach calls "Snakeheads". They keep changing and now they're showing up in the middle of enemy territory as well as in unexpected spots in the United States. Cade arrives and slaughters, but someone is pulling the strings now.... someone within The Shadow Company.

Nathaniel Cade is very clearly not human. Everyone he encounters shies away knowing that's truly what Cade is: a predator who sees others as either threats or prey. Despite this, he still willingly entered the oath and is incredibly loyal and even patriotic... just super scary simultaneously.

Each chapter of the book begins with a short back story concerning incidents in U. S. history which touched on the use made of Cade or happenings of an unexplained nature. This feature could have detracted from the narrative but it didn't. I can see how Christopher Farnsworth is going to build this series: each book will have a new paranormal entity to fight. Blood Oath was zombies; The President's Vampire is Snakeheads. The author manages to humanize both atrocities by making them man-made creations. So suspend your belief system, sit back and enjoy the ride.

Really enjoyed the second installment of the Nathaniel Cade novels. In this novel another subject is creating these snake/lizard like creatures out of humans so that they may overtake the world. Cade battles many of them and finally they figure out who is creating them and where their actual lab and lair is. You must read to find out the rest. Along with the great main story there are some other twists and turns with the characters in the story and it makes a great read. Glad I got this on an ER and I am hoping that Christopher continues the series.

I LOVE how references to historical documents and quotes are used to give this story a realistic feel. It was surprisingly easy to suspend my disbelief when listening.

I was feeling really lonely and sad after my boyfriend broke up with me, so I picked this up because I knew it would be full of action and not romance. I loved the first one in the series, and this one was a quick, fun read too. Lots of gore and weird creatures, plus the awesome vampire. Also, while I was reading, I felt almost normal again, and that's a pretty major compliment, since when I wasn't reading I was spending my time crying buckets.

Interesting concept and decently-written. The last half of the book especially is quite engrossing and I was compelled to keep listening to it. Not, however, for the faint of heart--there's lots of graphic violence. Not overdone, but very visceral. The titular vampire is a fascinating character and I do feel I'd like to read the first book in the series now. If you like a mix of supernatural/politics/military and thriller, you'd probably enjoy this book very much.

Osama bin Laden as a naga? Really?

This sucked so bad I gave up after the first chapter. It wasn't even good for a laugh.

I didn't realize it was the second of a series until I started to post it here.

    I'm agog.

Blood Oath, the first book featuring vampire Nathaniel Cade was so good I had to pick up the second one. The President's Vampire takes place months after Blood Oath and Zach Barrows, Cade's handler, has had plenty of time to get used to his new job. I didn't love Zach in the first book but he's so much more interesting in this one. In fact, in many parts of the book Zach almost outshines Cade. In this new adventure Cade and Zach are up against a virus that's turning humans into serpent-like creatures that are killing machines. Unstopped, they'll destroy most, if not all of mankind.

The President's Vampire provides shocking twists and is filled with non-stop action. If you liked the first book in this series, you will certainly like this one. I'm not a fan of vampire novels but I do enjoy a good political thriller and this is both. I wouldn't recommend reading them out of order since the character development is part of the plot. Now I'm off to get the third one...Red, White and Blood.

Thanks to the wonder of the goodreads giveaway program, I got my hands on a copy of the next installment of the Nathaniel Cade series a little early. Admittedly, the premise is pretty preposterous but this story is so full of "win" I just don't care. Once I could suspend my disbelief long enough to accept a vampire being sworn through a blood oath to serve the presidents of the United States for eternity, everything else was easy peasy. Are there lizard people? Sure! A shadow government? Why not?! A tricked out military complex hidden beneath the Liberty Mall that would be a mad scientist's wet dream? You betcha! However ridiculous I may sound attempting to describe this book to people the only thing that matters is the question "Is this book awesome?" And the answer is "Hell. Yes."

Farnsworth's been hitting it out of the park with this series. I don't consider myself a thriller fan, generally, but I've devoured both books in single sittings, forgetting to do things like, yanno, eat.

After reading Blood Oath I was ready for some more adventures with Nathan Cade. I really liked the first book but honestly have to say I was a little bit let down by The Presidents Vampire. I think Christopher Farnsworth tried to do too much in his second outing and after two thirds of the book I was left thinking that there were alot of words but very little going on. Of course the last third of the book completely made up for it. Once again I feel Mr. Farnsworth's writing style really fits his characters. Nathan Cade is a man of action and little words so the fast paced action works really well here. I was originally thinking of giving this one three stars but after reading the third book I had to upgrade it to four. There are alot of new characters that you'll be seeing in his future books so it's really important not to skip this one. I kinda feel like this book is the equivalent of Back to the Future 2. It's a good story, just not as good as part 1 and 3 but it's an extremely important bridge that helps set the pace for future events perfectly. The characters as always are interesting, the story was good and well paced and of course the action was spectacularly over the top. I definitely would recommend reading this one to get yourself prepared for the third book which in my opinion completely blows away the other two.

Also. This would make a -fantastic- video game. :)

Fun! Fun! Fun! This book took me longer than expected, but I think it's because it's exam time. It was fabulous. Better than 'Blood Oath'. I loved the homage to Stephen King with the RED RUM clearance. I loved the POSSIBILITY of a burgeoning 'love story' with Tania. I loved the 'dark/other side' of the CIA and will probably be reading some of the recommended titles for that. And...

I LOVE me some reptilian overlords!

Definitely worth the read, though, I had to refresh myself with 'Blood Oath' first. That's what Wikipedia is for.

2 May: This might be a spoiler... but since it happens in the first chapter or so, I'm not going to hide it. I'm also not going to lie, it's f'ing spooky. So the Navy Seals killed Bin Laden yesterday right? Then he was buried at sea. Yesterday I also read some of 'The President's Vampire' ... now for the 'spoiler':

Cade does battle with Bin Laden's minions and eventually Bin Laden himself who turns into a reptilian creature and he has to kill with hand grenades. Spooky.... and this book was JUST. PUBLISHED. Spooky. :) But I must say I LOVE me some reptilian overlords. I need to know if Farnsworth was inspired by the incredible wacko David Icke, author of 'The Biggest Secret' (which deals with reptilian overlords like Queen Elizabeth, Bill Clinton, et. al.) it's a total riot. :)

30 Apr: Been waiting for what feels like FOREVER for this book. Super psyched. :) Who needs to study for finals? I DEFY YOU CIVIL PROCEDURE!

Yes, the president has a vampire. He live in the basement of the Smithsonian. At least in the world created by Christopher Farnsworth. Cade, the vampire, gets those pesky, dirty little jobs like dealing with evil creatures from the other side, that the usual governmental agencies are loath to tackle. Interesting twist on the vampire ledgend. Also, for the conspiracy buff, there is a shadow government agency intent on world domination.

The trials and tribulations continue with Nathaniel Cade and his human handler Zach. This time, an old mess that Cade thought he'd cleaned-up 100 years ago in Innsmouth rears its' ugly head.....quite literally, as it seems that somebody is turning people into snakeheaded being from the Other Side. With traitors in their midst and no one they can trust will Cade and Zach be able to save the United States (and probably the whole world as well) from the evil machinations of the Shadow Company?

It was a good entertaining read. I found it fast and yet more complicated then the usual drek. I enjoyed it and recommend to everyone. I really like the little snippets before each chapter. Also, the way real life historical figures (like Elliot Ness, Osama Bin Laden, for example) are woven into the story. They never take center stage, almost like "historical cameos". The Cthullu Mythosis being involved her was a nice touch. I eagerly look forward to the next "Nathaniel Cade (and Zach) Adventure".

This is not your average vampire book. Nathaniel Cade has taken a oath to the presidents of the united states. He is their nightmare pet. Cade handles special threats, some that none of us could imagine.
Zack Barrows is Cade's handler. Zack is human. The interaction between Zack & Cade is interesting and sometimes makes you just have to laugh.

This is the second book in the series and I look forward to the next.

When a new outbreak of an ancient evil, one that Cade has seen before - comes to light, he and Zack must track down it's source.
Protect and serve often means settling old scores and confronting new betrayals... as only a century old predator can.

A political thriller meets a paranormal story in THE PRESIDENT'S VAMPIRE. Nathaniel Cade has been sworn to protect the country as the President's vampire for 140 years. He is the most secret of secret agents. His handler is Zach Barrows who had a very promising political future and job in the West Wing before he was drafted into service with Cade. In this episode, the second in the series, Cade and Zach are tracking down a conspiracy which intends to turn humans into lizard people and bring about a new world order. I liked that flashbacks to earlier in Cade's history. I liked the relationship between Cade and Zach which lets each of them play on their strengths. The story was fast-paced, exciting and bloody. Fans of thrillers and the paranormal will enjoy this story.

Nathan Cade has been the President's Vampire, blood sword to obey, this time he comes across an evil that he thought he had defeated before, only this time it's worse, it's harder to deal with and it is taking out many people.Zach Barrows is also trying to survive, to understand his new space in the scheme of things and trying to survive what is hunting both of them.I'm sure I'd enjoy this more if I got some of the references in the chapter headings, I got some of them but I'm not enough of a horror fan to have got them all and while it's interesting it sometimes left me wondering what was going on and what was being referred to and how they related to what was going on.Still it was interesting and well thought through, even if it was the "secret departement of the state investigating the uncanny" trope. Cade is nicely inhuman and Zach is a nicely human counterpart. Looking forward to more in this series.

I loved this book as much as the first one, Blood Oath, maybe even a little more. There was so much action with twists and turns throughout the book that it kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through. I loved Cade's "slang" because with him being 140 years old, you can well imagine that it's not always "up to date". The villains are worse in this book and the heros get a little help from an unexpected source. I can hardly wait to read the next one.

I didn't care much for this story. The entire premise just struck me as uninteresting. Had someone said, "Here is a book about X," and described the plot, I most likely would not have read it in the first place. Plus the author made a bad mistake in splitting up the two protagonists. This can work deeper into a series when we really know the characters, but not in just the second book. One thing that I did like, though, was the use of bits and pieces of pop culture as a part of the supernatural back story to the world the characters inhabit. That was fun.

The President’s Vampire (2011), by Christopher Farnsworth, is the second book in the Nathaniel Cade series, which began with Blood Oath (2010) and is followed by Red, White, and Blood (2012). It’s a unique series that employs a hundred-and-forty-year-old vampire, named Cade, to fight for the United States (and humankind) against all types of murderous supernatural villains. Cade was bound to the President of the United States by a blood oath in 1867 by a vodou priestess. The oath forces him “to support and defend the nation and its citizens against all enemies” as long as he walks the earth. Cade has become a willing and loyal, although exceedingly vicious, member of our national security team. However, Cade does not combat normal villains. Instead, he battles beings that want “the end of all things.” He fights monsters that “are not supposed to exist” and that “the human world cannot accommodate.” Cade dispatches these inhuman creatures, and their human compatriots, without trials or compassion because he is bound by his blood oath, but also because he believes it must be done and he enjoys doing it. Cade’s handler, Zach, works closely with Cade and often finds himself in life-threatening, and physically painful, situations, which require rescue from Cade. In The President’s Vampire, Cade and Zach battle an army of ruthless monsters that evolved from intentionally-infected human beings, which are eventually expected to replace the human race. A large nefarious agency that has worked to become enmeshed with the U.S. Government and other groups worldwide has conspired for many years to develop and unleash this horde of heinous creatures. Unfortunately, Zach discovers the hard way that he has been exploited by this traitorous group, and he finds himself to be in an extremely perilous situation. I liked Zach and Cade, the two main characters of this novel. The story places them in a menacing environment of espionage and supernatural drama. Of course, there is much horrific action, as would be expected in a vampire novel. I found The President’s Vampire to be an unusual and fun vampire story with a hellacious, but ethically-and-socially-conscious vampire working for the good of the human race. I intend to read the other volumes in this series.

Farnsworth gives us a fast paced adventure with plenty of action, gore and monsters. He's not particularly nice to his main characters in this one, and I enjoyed that aspect of the book. With the things they deal with, nothing should be easy for the heroes. Which is kind of a problem for books like this that are in a series. With the exception of Cade, the vampire, I don't think anybody would last very long, and the longer the series goes with the same human characters, the less likely things seem (yes, I know this is a book about vampires and monsters, but you know what I mean). And a word about vampires. I don't like them very much, and yet I keep reading books with them. That's what people are writing, so that's what I'm reading. I like Farnsworth's vampire, Cade, well enough. I won't say it's a fresh take on vampires, but at least it's well written and interesting. Unfortunately, if you want monsters, sometimes you have to put up with vampires.A very good second book in a series. We're two books in, and both have been quite good. Farnsworth's writing is very sharp, and the action is clear and not hard to follow. The time spent away from the main characters is brief, and Farnsworth doesn't bore with unnecessary details. The chapter headings are fun, and I hope they continue in future books. So far, this series is well worth reading.

I really liked this book - even considering how violent and gory it was!I listened to the audio version of the first book, "Blood Oath", and liked enough that I decided to buy the ebook version of "The President's Vampire." What a good decision because I couldn't put the book down. The format of the book makes continuous reading possible - some chapters are only a page or 2 long so the reader wants to see what the next chapter has to say. There were definately some improbably things that happen in the book (Tania on the skidoo? really?) but no one is going to read this book and think that it is non-fiction. I liked where the relationship with Zach and Cade goes - it is becoming more of a partnership - and how Cade doesn't hide from his inner monster. Yes, there were definately some beyond belief type things going on but overall, this was a great, fun, read.I would definately read "Blood Oath" first because it helps set the stage for Cade, the President's invovlement and why Zach isn't a super hero. While I kow that it was fiction, there were some parts about the government that rang a little too true for me..... Enjoy!

The President’s Vampire is the second book in the series featuring Nathaniel Cade, a vampire in the service of the President of the United States. The witch Marie Laveau bound Cade to the office of the President to serve and protect the country. He is the man in black, protecting us from the clutches of evil. He has a human liaison assigned to work with him and be his intermediary, currently it’s Zach Barrows. Zach is only a year on the job and he’s discovered it’s like no other OJT imaginable. We meet up with Cade as he is about to perform a HALO jump unto a private yacht off the coast of Africa. A yacht that is about to be attacked by some very unusual pirates. As monstrous as pirates are, these have been genetically mutated into killing machines and Cade’s job is to prevent them from spreading. He’s very good at what he does. After they get back, during their debriefing they are told to lay off the case, Colonel Graves is on it and they have already messed up one operation, trying to find a mole, by showing up on the yacht. Cade has other ideas. Zach and Cade team up with Archer/Andrews to find out who and how A/A has been infiltrated and put a stop to it.Overall, I enjoyed this one even more than the first, Farnsworth had even more fun and mixes in quite a bit more history and a lot of conspiracy theory stuff to make things more interesting. The story isn’t for the squeamish. Cade is a monster but he’s our monster and he’s our point man. When anything evil or otherworldly seems to be gaining a finger-hold on our reality it’s his job to hold back the things that go bump in the night.
