About this audiobook

"If I were teaching a course on how to write a mystery, I'd make Carolyn Hart required reading."
-Los Angeles Times

Merry, Merry Ghost by Agatha, Anthony, and Macavity Award winner Carolyn Hart, is the spirited second appearance of spectral sleuth, Bailey Ruth Raeburn, who would never let a little thing like being dead keep her from enjoying the Yuletide holiday or solving a dastardly crime. The light and funny follow up to Hart's critically acclaimed Ghost At Work-which Publishers Weekly named One of the Best Books of 2008-Merry, Merry Ghost is a  true Christmas treat, and Bailey Ruth is a most welcome addition to Carolyn Hart's coterie of beloved series protagonists, joining septuagenarian sleuth "Henrie O" Collins and the Darlings of "Death on Demand" fame.

Too many books written about and during the holiday season of Christmas leave me blah and unfulfilled. Merry, Merry Ghost provides a solid mystery wrapped up in the gold ribbonos Christmas.

A nice cozy mystery - Bailey Ruth Raeburn is a fun, spunky character, and the mystery itself held together pretty well.

Bailey Ruth Raeburn may have died and gone to Heaven after a boating accident, but her time on earth isn't quite done. She takes an assignment from the Department of Good Intentions and returns to her hometown of Adelaide, Oklahoma to help Susan Pritchard. It is Christmas time and Susan has received an unbelievable present - a young grandson she never knew existed. This changes everything in her life, including her will, which upsets the other members of her extended family. Someone is willing to go to any length, including murder, to stop young Keith from inheriting the Pritchard fortune. It's up to Bailey Ruth to save the day - and Christmas."Merry, Merry Ghost" by Carolyn Hart is the second book featuring Bailey Ruth and it is even more delightful than the first Ghost at Work (Bailey Ruth Mysteries, No. 1). Bailey Ruth is a wonderful character who doesn't let being dead get in the way of her fashion sense as she takes great pride in her clothes (which she can change just by thinking of them). She also has a hard time following the precepts - the rules of helping out on earth - especially the one where she's not supposed to show herself while on earth - much to the dismay of her "boss" Wiggins. At times Hart walks a very fine line with Bailey Ruth's appearances, most notably a prolonged encounter between Bailey Ruth and Susan, but she manages to credibly pull it off. There is a wonderful sense of humor throughout the book, mostly from Bailey Ruth's inability to follow the precepts which not only frustrates Wiggins but confuses the people on earth who hear a voice from someone that isn't there, see inanimate objects seemingly move on their own, or bump into something that isn't there. The cops are especially baffled at the mysterious redhead who appears out of nowhere to help them and disappears just as quickly. The mystery aspects are well done and reminded me of an Agatha Christie mystery - a family full of suspects all of whom have a motive for murder. The characters are all well done with perhaps the exception of Peg who seems a little too good to be true. Having the mystery set at Christmas time makes the mystery even cozier."Merry, Merry Ghost" is a delightful book in a cozy mystery series that gets better with each book.

My first holiday read of the month and it was a humdinger. Highly enjoyable with engaging characters, especially Bailey Ruth Raeburn, the spirit on a mission from Heaven. She breaks rules, called Precepts, on a regular basis, but doing so with good intentions to help her charges. Kids and animals can see her and Bailey Ruth lets herself be seen when she thinks it's needed and it's needed quite a bit in this story. She needs to look out for the little boy, Keith, as well as solve the murder of Keith's grandmother. And Bailey Ruth does it all in style. I love the attention to detail when she "dons her gay apparel". Tip of her toes to the top of her lovely red hair, she is a fashion statement. And a sweetheart of a spirit representative.Five splendid heavenly beans.....

Bailey Ruth has been sent back from Heaven once again. This time her mission is to watch over a little boy named Kieth, the long lost grandson of a quite wealthy, and very ill, woman named Susan. When Susan turns up dead, a result of foul play, after announcing that she was leaving everything to her recently found grandson, there are many suspects, as many were remembered in her original will. It is up to Bailey Ruth to try and discover the identity of the murderer and keep little Keith safe, all while not breaking the Precepts that she was ordered to follow when she was sent from HeavenThis was supposed to be a Christmas read for me, since the events in the story all happen around Christmas time, but I didn't quite get to it in time. The story was a little hard for me to get into at first. The reader is introduced to a slew of potential hiers to Susan's fortune right off the bat, and it took me awhile to get them all sorted out. Once I had and the action picked back up, I was very happy with the pace of the book. The author kept the identity of the killer a secret until the very end, at least she kept it secret from me. Bailey Ruth bothered me a bit. I understand that her character is a bit like an angel, having been sent down from heaven and all, but she was a bit of a goodie-goodie at times. Her only saving grace was that she did occassionally break the rules she was supposed to follow while on earth. This is the second book written about Bailey Ruth and I have added the first to see if I warm up to her a little bit more.3/5

Merry, Merry Ghost by Carolyn HartWhen the intrepid “Heavenly Emissary”(or Ghost ) Bailey Ruth, from previous book “Ghost at Work”, is sent back to Earth on the Rescue Express, little did she know that she was going to be watching over the wrong person. Bailey is thrilled to be back at Christmas time and is soon at work busily trying to prove in her ghostly way that the wealthy woman, Susan Flynn did not die of natural causes, but was murdered. This wonderful Christmas Cozy mystery has enough twists and turns to keep you happily occupied for quite a while. There are plenty of characters to suspect and numerous red herrings to plague and enthrall you. Although this book is the second installment in this new series, it certainly may be read as a ‘stand alone’ book. You will have no trouble at all following what is going on. This is a very sweet series, with no foul language or earthy romance to fill the pages. Bailey is the epitome of the 1940’s or 50’s zany wacky heroine who can get herself into a tight jam; but she has the intelligence and determination of a heroine from 2010 to get herself out of the jams without masculine help. This series is sure to appeal to both young and old, cozy mystery lovers, alternative fiction lovers and just plain old mystery lovers!!Merry Christmas!

Second in the Bailey Ruth mystery series by Carolyn Hart, about a ghost who volunteers to help people on Earth when they have serious problems. In the first book in the series Bailey Ruth helped young relatives in Adelaide, Arkansas, the town she lived in and loved while alive. In this 2nd episode in the series, Bailey Ruth is helping an orphaned four year old boy. He is left at the home of his very ill grandmother who had not known he existed. She is the last of the wealthy Pritchard family, and she has a number of heirs who are connections but not blood relatives. She is murdered before she can change her will to include her grandson. Bailey Ruth helps her learn to appear so she can write a new holographic will and get it signed. But the lawyer doesn't get the new will, and Bailey Ruth has to figure out why.The two volumes in the series are quite similar in tone. They are light-hearted cozies. Bailey Ruth is a fun character, in Heaven but enjoying everything about Heaven AND earth. She lived vibrantly, and has the same gregarious and kind nature that she had before death.Hart has two other series. The Death on Demand Series is a cozy mystery series about a bookstore owner and her private eye husband living on an island off the South Carolina coast. The other series is about Henry O., a retired and widowed journalist. Of the three, I like the Henry O. series best. The characterization tends to be deeper and richer. But I do enjoy the other two series as well, and am growing quite fond of Bailey Ruth, even if I find the premise kind of corny.
