About this audiobook

Anna and Bennett were never supposed to meet: she lives in 1995 Chicago and he lives in 2012 San Francisco. But Bennett has the unique ability to travel through time and space, which brings him into Anna's life, and with him a new world of adventure and possibility.

As their relationship deepens, the two face the reality that time may knock Bennett back to where he belongs, even as a devastating crisis throws everything they believe into question. Against a ticking clock, Anna and Bennett are forced to ask themselves how far they can push the bounds of fate, what consequences they can bear in order to stay together, and whether their love can stand the test of time.

Fresh, exciting, and deeply romantic, Time Between Us is a stunning, spellbinding debut novel from an extraordinary new voice.

This wasn't a bad story, it just had too much teenage romance and not enough time-travel for me.

The scoop:Seventeen years and thousands of miles separate sixteen-year-old Anna Greene and seventeen-year-old Bennett Cooper. They never should have met let alone fallen in love. But Bennett travels from 2012 to 1995 in search of something he lost. While waiting for what is missing to show up he starts attending Anna's school. They meet, he tries to stop the inevitability of their relationship, he saves her life, decides to take a chance and tell Anna the entire truth so she can decide what is best for her and then takes her on adventures like she has been dreaming about for years. However, their time together can be nothing more than temporary considering they are from different times. Or can it?My thoughts:Oh my gosh! I am just plowing through these time travel books. Why do I love them so much? And it makes me happy that there are so many good books out there--recently the books from the Hourglass series, The Future of Us, and The Hourglass Door series to name a few. Especially these books that put me into the time when I was growing up (this one and The Future of Us are both set in the mid 1990s) because I can relate to several of the comments, circumstances, etc., that are presented.Moving on. I really enjoyed the characters of Anna and Bennett. They both had their lives in their respective time periods and then the ultimate in star-crossed lover-ness (I know, not a real word but it was the best way to describe how I think they met by complete and total fate--I mean, hello!, they were separated by 17 years) happened. The fact that Bennett, who knew the original outcome, tried to stay away from Anna but still tried to be friends with her was such a romantic and tension-filled plot point. I also liked the ease of understanding the rules of Bennett's time travel restrictions. Sometimes all you need is just a few simple rules than make the most sense and not have to go into all the ifs and what abouts that can be infinite and confusing to the basic story line. My favorite part was that Anna's dream of travel was answered by meeting Bennett and his supernatural ability. The map on her wall and what it represented before and after she met him was just so great. Ahhh, if only teleportation was real then we could all travel as instantly as Bennett and Anna and enjoy all the unique and interesting locales around the world (I wish I could have tagged along on the trip to see Thailand--I bet it was gorgeous). There really wasn't anything I didn't like about this story and the way it wrapped up was satisfactory in my opinion--it made sense in the world of time travel (as much as anything in that world can make sense). I would recommend this to other book lovers of time travel, romance or just travel in general. A very satisfying, uplifting and enjoyable read.I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher, Disney-Hyperion, for a fair and honest review. The book will be available for purchase on October 9, 2012.

I've had this book waiting to be read for over a year now and somehow didn't realize it was about time travel. Once I knew it was, I dove right in. This is what I was hoping for when I bought the "Hourglass" series. It was fun and cute and I felt emotionally connected to the characters. (Which I really didn't in Hourglass.) I did take one star away because I felt the ending was really weak. I think I was just expecting more of a revelation. I don't think the solving of their problem made any sense. But I did love the entire lead up, and am looking forward to the next book.

I've never read a time travel book before, so I was excited to get into this book to see how it was dealt with. As soon as I started reading I was engrossed in the book. I found everything fascinating, most likely because it takes place in 1995, but also because it starts out with Anna seeing someone sitting in the bleachers as she ran around the tracks on morning, and then the next moment he was gone! With no footprints in the snow to see where he went. From then on I was intrigued. Why was he there? Why did Anna think she saw a look of recognition on his face when she saw him? What is going on?! Ok, it wasn't that drastic, but I was pretty interested. From there on we get to see Anna and Bennett form a relationship and Bennett's awesome time traveling powers and how they can really mess with peoples lives. For the most part, I really enjoyed this book. There were some point in the story where Anna got on my nerves, and I don't know how she didn't get on Bennett's nerves either. I won't go into what happened, so I don't spoil anything, but Anna became a little pushy and got angry over something that really annoyed me. But other than that I really enjoyed Time Between us and will be picking up the next book eventually.

Received this book from Goodreads for free to review.

This book really didn't deliver what it promised to me and seems a poor version of 'The Time Traveller's Wife' which is much better.

Anna is at school in 1995 when a new boy Bennett comes. She soon is intruiged by him and when she discovers he is actually from the future their adventures begin.

This book would possibly suit young teenagers as the story is very light and undemanding.

Honestly I think if the story had ended about a chapter earlier I would have been happier with it. Anna is in Chicago in 1995,sixteen, who loves running, works in her father's bookshop and determined that some day she will travel the world.Bennett is seventeen, living in San Francisco in 2012 and he can time travel. They meet by accident and they're attracted, but he should be in 2012 and she should be in 1995 and they should live their lives. The romance is well done, but felt a bit shallow. I didn't feel like they would be a long-term solid relationship and maybe they should have enjoyed the time together and then parted. It took me a while to get into and while a lot of it was well-written, I just didn't get into the characters and didn't like how it ended. Entertaining but a bit meh.

Background: Anna is from 1995 Chicago, leads a normal life, and runs in her spare time, but she really dreams of traveling the world someday. Bennett is from 2012 San Francisco and he has a unique gift, he can travel through time to any location. While traveling, Bennett meets Anna and they hit it off, and when he decides to stay in 1995 with her, things start to go wrong.Review: What a beautiful story. Time Between Us is a wonderfully written book about teenagers, love, experiences, and independence. But more so, about coming to terms with your independence and living your life to the fullest. I loved this book. I have owned an ARC for quite sometime but had not picked it up, then I got an audiobook copy and started to listen to it....I was blown away! I can't believe I took so long to start this book, because I am super impressed by it.Anna is independent and a well rounded character, and even as she starts to change because of Bennett's entry into the story, she changes for the better at times. I am excited to say that Bennett is not the cliche bad boy, but is instead a sweet kid who seems a bit lost in his life... and who can blame him, he can go anywhere at any time, how does he have a normal life?I was impressed on all fronts be this beautifully written book and cannot wait to pass it on for others to experience too.

I picked this up because someone told me it was The Time Traveler's Wife for YA and I have been in the mood for a really swoony, moving romance for awhile now. And this one held its ground and certainly lived up to all the hype that it has gotten. Anna and Bennett were never supposed to meet. They're from two different times, but couldn't be more of the same person. As their relationship deepens, Anna learns that he possess a unique and thrilling ability, he can time travel. From there, their relationship takes off on a very emotional journey. What I loved most about the book was the way the author presented Bennett's gift. She made Bennett space it out to Anna and he explained it in depth. I didn't feel as if there was an info dump and I wasn't confused when he did it. This is a problem with most YA books that have extraordinary gift or creatures. Another thing I loved, was the characters. Anna was a strong and driven female protagonist who handled everything in a very grown up manner. There were very few tears that she shed and throughout her story and that in itself is a very rare feat. Then there's Bennett.... I loved him dearly. He makes for a very swoon worthy character and it is very easy to see how much he cares for Anna. I also loved one of the lesser main characters, Emma. She was funny and I could easily hear her accent in my mind every time I read "Hello love." Lastly, I just want to say Stone's writing style is amazing. I connected to every piece of the story. During the "hospital" scene, I found myself crying buckets and every time they were in Spanish class I felt like I was attending the class with them. Stone took the "time" (no pun intended lol) to fine tune every detail and create a very moving, detail driven story. Time Between Us is a tale of love, family, and friends and is a must read for everyone!

I don't even know how to begin to gather my thoughts about this book; it blew me away. After a day of contemplation, I can definitely say that Time Between Us is my favorite book of the year. Time travel has always been one of those subjects that never quite work for me. Often times the science and rules behind the travel either don't make sense or were way too confusing to even begin to comprehend. The rules in Time Between Us are simple. Bennett cannot travel past his lifetime (Before March 1995 or after 2012), he can take a person with him if they are physically touching, and if he stays in a place too long, time rights itself and knocks him back to his current timezone. Those are the physical rules guiding Bennett's travel, but he also has one personal rule that this novel challenges - he will not alter the path of time and stop big events from happening. I can honestly say that I love every aspect of this novel. I love how Bennett isn't perfect and doesn't try to be. I love how Anna doesn't loose her self importance and worth once Bennett comes and goes. I love the little nuances here and there that if you read too quickly you'll miss. I love how every aspect that is not considered ideal is necessary to the story. Not once did I think, "Really? There's more?!", but rather I saw how those unfortunate things, including fights, had to happen. I could go on forever with "I love"'s, and be content to repeat them all again to the next person I talk to, but I am going to stop myself here. This is not a quick read - at least it shouldn't be. I had to constantly put it down for a minute or two and think about what was going on. That has never happened to me, but reading this novel that way was so much richer of an experience than consuming a story in one sitting. Do not tear through this book, you will miss something, I guarantee it. If I had to choose a novel to re-read over and over again, it would be this one. I feel bad for the next book I read, and the one after that, because following such an amazing book, my view is bound to be skewed. This book releases today, and I strongly suggest you all go out and buy it. If you are like me and were lucky enough to receive an advanced copy, go and buy a finished one. And then buy another copy and gift it to your best friend. This will be the book I reread year after year, and I can only hope that you will feel the same way.

Such an original and believable time-travel-love story! Bennett travels through time, and usually he does it for fum. But this time, there is a reason he has to go back, and ends up in Anna's time. As much as he tries to stay away, tries to remain unnoticed by all so he doesn't disturb "history", is there a possibility that things happened for a reason? Was he meant to come here? To meet her? Anna goes to a private school where everyone is the majority of the students are privileged own cars and have traveled plenty. Anna is okay with the fact that her parents both have to work overtime in order to put through her school to give her the best education and she is all prepared to start her senior year, with the hopes to travel once she graduates. It is something that she has always wanted to do and fears that she may not be able to because of her lack of finances... but in the end, life is good for Anna. When she meets Bennett, its hard to say how she feels about him. And as she bumps into him and little by little gets to know him, she is not sure what to think of him. They're relationship slowly unfolds... she continuously feels that that Bennett may be hiding things; that he may not be telling her everything... can she trust him? I really loved seeing how independent Anna was! Even after meeting Bennett and the things they went through, she did not completely crumble but got herself together and became stronger. Oh my, and Bennett... you will fall in love with this boy! Other than the fact that he is a time traveler, he is still such a unique and memorable character. He is not perfect, but no boy ever is. But he makes up for it, in so many ways. As a teen who grew up in the early 90's (oh my, did I just give away my age?!), who was in high school when Kurt Cobain passed away and who thought that Eddie Vedder (of Pearl Jam) was a god - all of the 90's references brought me back in time as well! I felt like I was 16, 17, 18 all over again, which makes me love this book even more! And it has to be said, I really enjoyed this so much more than The Time Travelers Wife, which was much more serious and at times lagged - Time Between Us picks up after about 100 pages or so and then it has you continuously turning the pages! You won't be able to put it down - so be careful you don't get any paper-cuts!

The first time Anna sees Bennett, he seems to know her. But the second time, he doesn't recognize her at all. As Bennett and Anna grow closer, Bennett shares his secret with her: he's a time traveler. Anna, who has always longed for travel and adventure, is amazed when Bennett can instantaneously whisk Anna to a tiny island halfway across the world in the blink of an eye. But Bennett is in his past and Anna's present for a reason, and when he finds who he's looking for, he might not be able to come back. This story is smart and savvy about both its time-travel and romance aspects, and Anna is a likable heroine, with additional goals and dreams besides being in a relationship. It is those goals and dreams that play a large part in both the resolution of her relationship with Bennett and the trajectory of her story. Recommended for fans of time-travel romances and complex, multifaceted heroines.

f you know me, then you know I love a good love story. Especially one similar to The Time Traveler's Wife, instead with teens. The best part of the story are the characters. Do you ever wonder were your loved is? Do you miss him/her? Are they in other lifetime, another place where you can't be? These characters by lucky chance, got the chance of the life time to even meet, yet fall in love with each other. The characters face trials that make their love stronger. It may seem like they are letting go, but instead, they are enduring, loving each other fiercely. The plot of the book is great! I thought that maybe I might have a problem with it since it does bounce back and forth between time periods, at last I did not. Instead, ti flowed smoothly allowing the reader the immerse themselves to be completely swept away by the plot. The writing is simple yet angelic. Take it from me that if you love a love story with a plot that is rich yet so easy to melt into, you need to read this story.Time Between Us is richly plotted story that can capture any reader. Intoxicating the reader with a burning love that can sear any heart, I fell for deeply for this story. It's engaging yet so real. Impressive yet satisfying, Time Between Us is gripping.

Chicago, 1995: There is a new boy at school. Anna is intrigued and attracted by Bennett, and he seems to be quite drawn to her. A series of bizarre coincidences bring them together. Why does he have such long, shaggy hair, though? And sometimes his behaviour is a bit strange. As they get to know each other, Bennett reveals his secret – time travel. He is a teenager in 2011, and was just a baby in 1995. Bennett never planned to stay permanently in Anna’s era. He has come back for a reason, and when he has done what he set out to, he means to return to his own time, so the developing romance between them poses a difficult dilemma.I am fascinated by time travel and I also enjoy school stories of all kinds and historical novels set in the quite recent past. This young adult romance is cleverly imagined and I really enjoyed reading it. The book is American and as I was a teenager in the 1980s, her time doesn’t really seem historical, just a bit different. Occasionally I would notice something and think about how things have changed between 1995 and 2012. I would be interested to see what a present day 16 year old would make of story featuring teenage life with no mobile phones, music on CDs and Walkmans and far fewer computers and internet access.Recommended for teenage girls past and present.

A strong new talent in the YA paranormal/fantasy genre makes her presence known in Tamara Ireland Stone’s début time-travel romance TIME BETWEEN US. Let’s take a closer look at this story of two teenagers meant for each other who have been separated by space and time.

    What I Loved

The Concept: While many people might think of the movie "The Lake House" when first glancing at the summary for TIME BETWEEN US, I envisioned "Somewhere In Time." It ended up feeling like a little of both, with the prologue having especially strong ties to the latter film. I love the idea of two souls meant to be together who have been born into different time periods and yet somehow manage to find each other. It calls to the romantic in me, which is probably why this début novel turned out to be my favorite time-travel story this year. It doesn’t hurt that it was easy to follow and never left me lost or confused in the space-time continuum, and that the rules and boundaries of Bennett’s time-travel ability were clear-cut (the “whys” were not, but the “wherefores” were).

Anna: Smart, independent, athletic, strong…just an all-around great heroine. Her only real weakness was Bennett, and the way she found herself lost without him – unfortunately a bit of a recurring theme in YA romances. However, she had enough strengths to offset this weakness and the great choices she made at the end of the novel left an extremely good impression and provided a solid message about living life.

Bennett: Smart, independent, mysterious, caring…a good match for Anna. While at first I was confused by Bennett just like Anna was, I found myself liking his character more and more as his secrets were revealed. I was impressed by how much he cared for his sister and grandmother, and the way he had worked to understand his ability. His caring may actually be his biggest weakness, as it allows him to be talked into doing things he doesn’t feel should be done because he loves the person doing the asking.

    What I Liked

The Unexpected: Rock-climbing as a first date? Using time-travel to satisfy a love of music? A minor miscalculation in timing that ends up making someone look foolish? Not really big things, but it was nice to come across some unexpected little twists that made the story feel fresh and different.

Style and Execution: Characters were fleshed-out, interesting, and had quirks. The story flowed easily and felt engaging. There were moments of tension, bits of humor, drama and romance all tied together by an intriguing concept. This is a very polished début.

    What Made Me Hesitate

Unanswered Questions: As mentioned above, the WHY of Bennett’s ability is not given here. It may never be answered – not all questions have clear-cut answers – but I’m obsessive about having all threads neatly tied off. I was also left questioning the fate of someone close to Bennett, since no details were really provided about how the matter was resolved. I found this especially frustrating since as I read this book I was under the impression that it was a stand-alone; author Tamara Ireland Stone has since indicated she plans a sequel, so hope springs eternal that my questions will be answered. I really hope so.

    Conclusion

Tamara Ireland Stone’s début young adult paranormal/fantasy TIME BETWEEN US appears to draw inspiration from other time-travel stories, but has enough originality to feel fresh and interesting. With strong lead characters, well thought-out time-travel logistics, and an easy-to-follow style, TIME BETWEEN US is an enchanting story that will appeal to romantics of all ages.

I loved Anna from the first page and my adoration of her character only grew as I read every single page of Time Between Us. She’s such a normal, relatable girl and I know I would have been her friend in high school. Anna feels like her life is extremely boring and all she wants to do is get out of her small town and travel the world. She’s got a map in her room with little red pins in all of the places she’s been. Unfortunately, there are only four pins and they are all really close together. Anna is a runner and the first time she sees Bennett is on one of her daily morning runs. He’s in the stands watching her, and then he’s gone. Poof. Disappeared. And that is the beginning of one of the coolest and most romantic stories I’ve read in a very long time. Here’s a girl in 1995 whose only ever wanted to see the world, then she meets a sweet guy who she can’t seem to keep from her thoughts and little does she know he possesses the ability to take her anywhere she wants to go in the blink of an eye. As they get to know each other and Bennett starts to reveal his secrets to Anna, you can see them slowly falling in love. Of course, being from two different decades kind of dooms things from the start and that gives an added element of danger for Anna’s heart. I have so much love for Anna and Bennett, but I can’t possibly leave out Emma. British, feisty and completely adorable, she is the best kind of best friend character. She loves Anna and is fiercely protective, so she’s not so sure about Bennett at first. It actually took her a while to warm up to him and I really appreciated that. Sometimes best friends in books automatically like a guy because their friend does, but Emma waited and formed her own opinion about him. She had Anna’s back even when Anna didn’t think there was anything to worry about. I’m team Emma, all the way. Time travel and country hopping aside, there are some crazy things that happen in this book. It makes for an adventurous read with some very real drama going on. I honestly cannot stop thinking about this book and I know that I will be rereading it more than once. Anna and Bennett’s story is one for everyone, because it’s about love, but it’s also about living the life that you want to live.

This is a very unique love story between two 16 year-olds during two different time periods and in two different cities. Anna and Bennett are meant to be together or are they? Bennett lives in 2012 in San Francisco but he has the ability to travel through time and space which accidentally brings him into Anna’s life, which is 1995 in Evanston, Illinois. He shows up on day on the track while she is running and yet she doesn’t know him but she feels like she does. But then he literally disappears. That same day he appears again in school, right behind her in Spanish class. She knows he must be the same guy, but why is she so drawn to him. As their relationship builds, Bennett tells Anna the truth about himself, and as they fall in love they wonder if their love can withstand the test of time? But with this new love brings adventures and many possibilities. But the biggest question is can fate keep these two together? This first time author has created a very romantic love story between two very normal fun-loving teenagers. A book that I promise you won’t be able to put down. The dialogue is fresh and realistic. And then once you finish the story you will want to go back and reread some of the chapters just to confirm that you think you completely understood the ending.A wonderful read for grades 7 and above. I loved this book!

I think the fact that this book is not even out yet and it’s already been picked up in thirteen other countries and optioned as a film by CBS speaks for itself.Tamara Ireland Stone brings a new concept to time travel and creates a great story about family, relationships, and love. I really liked how time travel was a big part of the story yet subtle at the same time. I must admit I did get a little confused at some points where Bennett was explaining what he could and couldn’t do.For the most part I liked Anna as a main character, she has a good head on her shoulders, is responsible, determined, and full of dreams. Did I mention she works in a bookstore? Nuff said, haha! Can we just gush about Bennett for a little while? First off, I love that name, it’s original just like Bennett. He has this incredible gift of being able to travel through time but he doesn’t let it go to his head or believe that he’s some super hero meant to change history. He is such a sweet and lovable guy, and treats Anna so well. I think my heart literally melted when he traveled back to Thai Island just to get her a souvenir postcard =)As I drew closer and closer to the end of the book I got sad because I wasn’t ready for it to be over! While I loved the book as a whole, I did feel like the ending was a little bit lacking. There are a few things I would have liked to see happen that didn’t. It’s still a satisfying ending nonetheless. There is no doubt this is one of my favorite books of 2012!

Kim McGee's reviewSep 12, 12 · edit4 of 5 stars falseRead on September 12, 2012I just read the advance copy of Time Between Us which comes out in October.Anna is a high school student in the Chicago area in 1995. She has two working parents who love her and encourage her running. She works part time in her dad's bookstore, has great friends and is a "good" kid. She meets a young guy who appears out of nowhere at the track and is then admitted to her high school. Bennett has a lot of secrets and she falls for him (of course). His unique abilities of bouncing back and forth between this time and his own (2012 in San Francisco) come in rather handy but he doesn't want to have a relationship in 1995, only to find his missing sister. Anna is surprisingly fine when she learns of his talents and will do everything she can to keep him forever. It is a sweet version of The Time Traveler's Wife (lucky for him he bounces with clothes!) and other new young adult time travel love stories. We have all wished to be able to go back and change things but I loved that Bennett and Anna were able to travel wherever they wanted to in current time as well. No need to save up frequent flyer miles with these two
