I'm a huge fan of this author, and have read all her romantic suspense books. When I found out she was doing contemporary, I couldn't wait to see what she did with it. And I was not disappointed! St. Claire takes you into the wonderful world of Barefoot Bay, and you can almost feel the sand between your toes. Things I really loved about this book: 1) Clay, the hero, is amazingly done. He talks and thinks like a man and not many authors can really capture the male voice which she does SO WELL (I noticed this in her romantic suspense books, and she carried it over here flawlessly). 2) I loved the friendships between the women, they felt honest and real, and of course it makes you want to read their stories too. 3) The mother-daughter relationship is also true to life and heartfelt. I read this book in two days because I couldn't put it down. Just in time for summer, it's the perfect beach read. I'm so excited that St. Claire has branched out to do this series, and I will definitely keep reading it. From romantic suspense master to contemporary genius, St. Claire is an amazing author. Highly recommended.

Roxanne St. Claire’s newest novel starts out with a bang! Maybe it should be called a roar! In either case Lacey Armstrong is trying to save her daughter Ashley’s life, as well as her own! She is in the middle of a hurricane, in the rickety beach house left to her by her Grandparents. It’s the only home she and her daughter have, and it’s falling apart around them. She drags them into a huge heavy bath tub, pulls a mattress over them, and rides out the storm. When the storm is gone, all that’s left is Lacey, Ashley, and the bath tub. Here the adventure begins.Lacey sees this as a chance to start over, to do what she really wants with her life, baking and a lovely Bed and Breakfast on the shores of Barefoot Bay. The story has so many ups and downs, I don’t want to give any spoilers, but the cast of characters in her life deserve a mention! We have Clay the “almost architect” with serious family and love issues. He’s willing to do her dream for free, and he’s also gorgeous with lots of muscles! Her three best friends in the world Jocelyn, the life coach, Zoe the wanderer, and Tessa newly divorced, organic gardener, enter the adventure. Then, David. He ran out of Lacey’s life fourteen years ago, after telling her to have an abortion, and come to Patagonia with him. Obvious how that turned out! He has returned a successful chef, changed his name to Fox, and wants back in Ashley and Lacey’s life. Mix in small town characters, friend and foe, and you have a very delightful story! I’m very happy that this is going to be a series. After reading the preview for Jocelyn’s story I can’t wait!!

Really good romance with lots of twists and turns. Liked that the heroine ended up with a younger man.

Never reading a Roxanne St. Claire novel before, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was happy to learn, though, that this is the first book in a series, so I was getting to start fresh with both a new-to-me author and a brand new series. My surprise? I loved both the book and the author's skills! Ms. St. Claire took humor, single parenthood and fun loving characters, whipped them together with a rocking great plot line and turned out a batch of fantastic reading.Lacey Armstrong is a character that I can totally relate with. She's a single mom, doing her best to make ends meet for her and her 14 year old daughter, Ashley. I'm a single mom of two boys doing the same thing. Each struggle she went through, I felt as if it was my struggle because I knew exactly how Lacey felt. When a cat-5 hurricane sweeps through Mimosa Key, however, I couldn't relate to the pain and devastation that Lacey and Ashley felt. But, grateful to be alive, the make the best of it, and Lacey decides it's the chance to begin her true dreams of building a B & B.Clayton "Clay" Walker enters the picture and whoa! Holy smokes, that is one hot architect! Or atleast Lacey felt like he was. Trouble is, he's not who she wanted for the job. But, Clay wants to be the one that works on this dream of Lacey and show her that there is so much more to be gained that just a simple 5 room B&B. He wants to show her the fun of living life and not worrying. But, will his past hinder that or will he be able to move on and show Lacey that love can conquer all, barefoot in the sand? Or, will he be able to show Lacey that he's the guy to get the girl, and not her ex, David? From fun loving Casablanca quotes to laughable moments with 4 college girlfriends to steamy spark-flying romance, Ms. St. Claire has hit a home run in my book with this awesome 5 Book worthy series debut. I didn't want the story to end, and I wanted to find myself waking up on Barefoot Bay beach next to a hunky architect and lots of great friends! But, sadly, it ended and I had to wake up to my life :). The good news is, it's not the end! I can't wait to read the next installment in this awesome new series from a new favorite author!

Received for ReviewOverall Rating: 4.25Character Rating: 4.50Story Rating: 4.00First Thought when Finished: What a perfect "escape for the afternoon" summer read! What I Loved: Clay and Lacey had a push/pull romance that I think was fun to watch unfold. I loved that they were both strong and resilient despite what their pasts had thrown at them. They weren't a typical romance couple and that worked best. I laughed several times at Lacey's reactions to Clay because I probably would have thought/did the same things if I was in her position! What I Liked: I really like when there are strong friendships in a romance novel. This one had it with Zoe, Tessa and Jocelyn. They really helped show how friendship can be the very reason that you open yourself up to more in your life. That friends can heal those things that you can't admit to yourself.Final Thought: This is a perfect summer escape read with some really fun characters!

I enjoyed the storyline and characters in this book. Lacey was finally able to go after her dream. Clay just wants to be able to do what he loves, build houses. And sees Lacey as a way to get that. Or it was in the beginning. They both grow as characters so much during the book. I enjoyed watching Lacey change and figure out what she truly wanted as the book went on. The developments as the story goes on were good and I found myself not wanting to put the book down so that I could figure out what happens next.

When I picked this book up I was expecting just another contemporary romance, but it was so much more than that. The story flowed so smoothly that I couldn't help but fall in love right along with Lacey. Clay may have come with a bit of baggage in the beginning, but seemed to finally get what was important in the end. Loved the project that they work on together. Looking forward to reading more about them and their friends.

Taken from the author's own experience of the devastation a hurricane can bring, Barefoot in the Sand begins with a hurricane sweeping through Mimosa Key and taking every material thing single mother, Lacey Armstrong owns. When the storm breaks Lacey and her daughter emerge, ecstatic to be alive but devastated to see their life in shambles. The reader is invested, from the first page, in how Lacey puts her life and that of her daughter back together. After the destruction Lacey has the chance to do what she has always wanted, to build and run her own B&B on Mimosa Key. That is if she can overcome her fears and her natural tendency to over analyze as a means of procrastination for making final decisions. It is Lacey's journey that makes this story. The underly theme of second chances plays out again and again. Not only does she get a chance to realize her dreams of her own B&B but she also gets a second chance at love. Lacey's inner battles are very poignantly portrayed. She is always weighing how what she wants for herself impacts everyone else around her. It is the battle many women fight every day, though not on perhaps the grand scale of this book.

To help Lacy stick to her guns are the best BFFs any middle-aged woman could ever find. Tessa, Zoe, and Jocelyn provide laughs as well as a mirror to Lacey as she sometimes backs down from building her B&B or in pursuing true love. The shared giggles though these best friends make the story seem more real and closer. The reader feels like she is in on a secret gabfest among best friends. There were several times I wanted to jump in and offer my own advice. I suspect each of these friends will be getting stories of their own in the future.

This series is a heart-warming contemporary romance--one of those where you feel like family by the time you finish the book and you want to return again and again to Barefoot Bay to see how every character grows and changes.
