A wonderful spin on a much-beloved fairy tale, New York Times bestselling author Eloisa James’s When Beauty Tamed the Beast is heart-soaring and fun historical romance at its finest.

Miss Linnet Berry Thrynne is a Beauty . . . Naturally, she's betrothed to a Beast.

Piers Yelverton, Earl of Marchant, lives in a castle in Wales where, it is rumored, his bad temper flays everyone he crosses. And rumor also has it that a wound has left the earl immune to the charms of any woman.

Linnet is not just any woman.

She is more than merely lovely: her wit and charm brought a prince to his knees. She estimates the earl will fall madly in love—in just two weeks.

Yet Linnet has no idea of the danger posed to her own heart by a man who may never love her in return.

If she decides to be very wicked indeed . . . what price will she pay for taming his wild heart?

Eloisa James is a USA Today and New York Times bestselling author and professor of English literature, who lives with her family in New York, but can sometimes be found in Paris or Italy. Loved this book though it is my second time of reading it. Just shows why Eloisa James is the best. And the audio experience was fantastic thanks to a lovely reader.

I loved this book! The way the author used the Beauty and the Beast theme for this book was great. Piers Yelverton is a scarred man and Linnet Berry Thrynne is the woman who tames him. I highly recommend this book!

Choppy little review ahead. I literally just finished the audiobook.

I absolutely loved this story and audiobook! I wasn't sure if I was going to like the heroine at first, but I ended up loving her confidence and flirty nature. She balanced out the hero wonderfully. Their banter just made me smile. The pacing was a lot better in this one than A Kiss at Midnight. And the epilogue was very cute!

I don't mind the language not being historically correct in this series. This story, like the first one in the series, is a joy to read. It's wonderful to see how the relationships, between Linnet and Piers but also between Piers' parents and Piers and his father, develop. The nod towards the tv series House is funny.
Can't wait for the next book in this series.

This book was so good! The chemistry between Piers and Linnet is astounding. They may be fighting and bickering a lot but they were made for each other and the fact that they could deny it for so long only made for a surprisingly better read. I'm very glad that they didn't give in until the end and that the roles were reversed, making the hunter the hunted. I am rather sad though that what happened to Linnet happened but all's well that ends well - as people say. The epilogue is particularly sweet.

I loved this story, and all the characters and side stories too. Ms. James always writes about real challenges and down-to-earth human relations with mostly happy —certainly palpable endings for all. I laughed out loud in so many chapters and enjoyed the banter between our hero & heroine. Piers could often be a bit crude, gruff and angry, but you forgive him because he’s gentle and loving at his core and always in pain. Linnete is just a doll through and through. I enjoyed her character tremdously.

Don’t miss this fun, romantic, heartwarming series . . .

This is a regency romance version of the fairytale, and I am a sucker for fairytales. Plus, James is a reliable feelgood read. She's amusing and besides a love story, she shows warmth and friendship among the secondary characters. It's nice to have life in a romance beyond the two leads throbbing at each other. I remember liking her quartet about Scottish sisters - the one with the Shakespearian-pun titles - very much.In this one she shamelessly riffs off (tv)House's personality for her rugged alpha hero. Frankly, I was hoping to the end that the grand reveal would have Linnet - and I'm not sure that the backstory she's given would result in such a paragon of forgiveness and unstinting love - run off with his magnificent butler, but alas, no. On the upside, there are some nice throwaway jokes in here - nicknaming a woman Nurse Matilda made me smile - a family reunion, angst, and a scruffy dog.

I loved the banter between the Hero and Heroine. Both are smart and sharp with their wit. I do love a Beauty and the Beast retelling and this story wrapped up in the premise of the television show, "House", makes it fun. A delightful read.

One of the best stories I’ve read in years. Amazing characters who develop throughout. And the tension at times was such that I repeatedly had to remind myself that there definitely would be a happy ending. Also: excellent lemons! Urban dictionary lemons if you don’t know what I mean. Eloisa James is phenomenal.
And I LOVE the narrrator, Susan Duerden. In my opinion, the best male voices out there, and I love the cadences of her voice. She fades into the background and lets the story shine.

I really liked this book. The only reason I rate it 3 stars is lack of character originality. The hero is Dr. House in an historical context. There was great dialogue and sex scenes, but character development is a crucial aspect in any book.If the hero had been James's own creation, the book would at least be a 4.

A classic retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Except the Beast is a Duke with a limp and a bad temper and the Beauty is a delightfully snarky heroine with bite. 5 stars.

I adore Beauty and the Beast and I loved this retelling. Linnet and Piers are hilarious. The banter between them had me giggling and their chemistry is off the charts. Piers can be a complete and utter ass and Linnet was perfect at calling him out for it. Honestly, Piers wasn't even really all that charming when he tried but Linnet seems to like him as is. She gets bored with men who pander to her and her beauty. And Piers definitely won't pander to her.

I liked the way their relationship developed, beginning with friendship of sorts and working up to the romance. Their daily swimming lessons was a nice touch. And I enjoyed the way Linnet gets involved with the medical clinic - helping out to keep the patients entertained. The supporting cast were amusing (Prufrock the butler was a gem) and I liked that the three doctors were named Piers' Ducklings.

The only complaint I had was Linnet's naivety/innocence concerning sexual relations - I mean she's well read - she never bothered to pick up a book? That part seemed a bit odd. Still it was a minor issue and it was funny if nothing else.

A quick and witty retelling with tons of heart and a lot of snark. 5 stars.

Perhaps a little too contemporary in its regency garb--the House MD homage got a little old, for example, and Mesieurs Kibbles and Bitts, really? Still, I love Eloisa James books even when they are lacking.

Good as long as it keeps to the silly bantering and the light erotic bits, it's not up to the heavy relationship damages at it's edges.

This was a fun Regency but a lot of it seemed very out of period. I don't know a lot about medical practices in the early 1800s but a fair amount of what the male protagonist was doing seemed breaking edge for the period if not unlikely. I gave the writer the benefit of the doubt because generally her books are fairly accurate historically but this one kept throwing me off because of the medical practices. I did like knowing that the main character was inspired by House, the TV series. That did add to the fun.

House meets Beauty and the Beast. How can anyone resist this combination? Once again, the beginning of the novel was a bit cluttered and contrived. However, when the real story gets going, I could not help but enjoy the OTP. The fall into love so seamlessly. The conflict, those, is real. I ached and cried but could not put the book down because these two HAD to end up together. James is fast becoming a fave author. Not sure how I missed her before.

Did I love this novel? Oh yes, I did.
Why? The main characters are well-developed. There's tons of witty banter. There's a reasonable conflict and there's this nail-biting climax and then there is the (inevitable) happily ever after.

I recently read the first book in this series even though each book is completely stand alone. I knew I’d probably be pretty fond of this book just because of the Beauty And The Beast references. Though that doesn’t mean I forgive it for all it’s faults.

The story takes place in the typical regency era of Eloisa James novels. We start by meeting a stereotypically beautiful girl named Linnet who has a bit of a very tame affair with the Prince. This ends up harming her reputation in the ton and her father rushes to marry her off to this grumpy man nicknamed the Beast or in reality the Earl of Marchant. The rest of Linnet’s marriage conspiracy with her relatives revolves around her attempting to use her typical immediate wooing abilities on the beast, but this of course does not really work. Eventually somebody in this story bends unexpectedly and there are some minor changes that begins to unravel a much deeper plot line. This book deals a lot with the psyche of the Beast and why he believes that he will never get married. The final twist is quite a surprise that I honestly did not expect.

I felt like this book was good and had better legs to stand on than the first one in this series. Linnet had a lot of wit and challenge towards the beasts more standoffish qualities. After first hearing the descriptions of how ‘perfect’ Linnet was thought to be I was surprised to find how likeable she became as the book carried on, but a lot of that for me was contributed to her wit. The Beast was a regency version of House and that was a bit off putting for me at first, but I quickly got over it with the looks into his psyche. I also found the end of the book to be a major emotional roller coaster which pretty much stunned me.

Overall 4/5 stars. It was a fun read and super quick. I recommend it if you manage to find it on the cheap (under $5). Realize that you probably won’t put this book down either though.

    Synopsis
Linnet Berry Thrynne is the belle of the ball until she is dumped by a prince and snubbed by the ton. Her only prospects are to marry Piers Yelverton the misanthropic Earl of Marchant nicknamed the Beast. Will he succumb to her charms or will she fall for a man incapable of loving her in return?

    Review
A sexy and steamy retelling of the traditional Beauty and the Beast tale and a must read for lovers of historical romance.

Piers is obviously modeled on my favorite TV doctor, Gregory House (didn't need the historical note to confirm this). He is scarred, tortured and downright rude but not nearly as beastly and irascible as I thought he would be. Linnet is beautiful both outside and in, and she never allows Piers to bully or intimidate her. Their verbal sparring is witty and snarky, and their steamy scenes sensual and sexy.

My one small issue is with Linnet's father and aunt who are ridiculous caricatures but the rest of the secondary cast from the nosy butler to the endearing boy and his flea bitten dog are simply wonderful.

Run, do not walk, to the nearest bookstore or website and get this book.

So I think I just have to own up to the fact that romance novels are helping me through my current post-graduate degree at university.

They're fluffy, light, easy content allows me to relax long enough to prepare myself for the day or fall asleep properly.

When Beauty Tamed the Beast actually has some lines that were funny enough to make me laugh, although I think the plot lacked something. One of my favourite things about romance novels is that they're painstakingly predictable, but this plot didn't really have a threat that I felt?

So, I liked the writing and I enjoyed some of the characters. It was better than some that I've read but it did have a bit of a lull in the middle of the book.

All in all, I'd like to read more of James' work, but if you're looking for historical accuracy and a huge plot, this romance novel probably isn't for you. c:

Well that was a fun & frothy bit of fluff, as the saying goes. I really didn't recognize the fairy tale in it, but I certainly recognized Dr. House, just from seeing other ppl watch the show.

Audio- wonderful tale of love lust and anger. The beast is a young Doctor with daddy issues and a physical injury that left him with a bad leg. He roars around yelling at all and happy with none. The beauty is of course a beauty that was used for her looks and tossed out of the Ton because of pregnancy rumors. She is shipped off the the beast in an arranged marriage to give him an heir and her a husband to save her from ruin.
Their tale is filled with anger, snarky humor, lust and stubbornness. They are beautiful together, even at the worst. The supporting characters fit well and bring laughter to the right moments. We all know the tale of beauty and the beast, and still there are many surprises here. Not to be missed for a romantic, historical fairy tale.

Beauty and the Beast is my all time favorite fairy tale, so any time I come across a retelling of it I pretty much have to read it. When you combine that with Eloisa James' wit, great writing and strong characters, you have a GREAT book that reads incredibly fast. Loved it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this romance. It was funny with 2 great central characters. Including an 18th century version of Dr House! Beauty and The Beast is my favourite fairy tale and this is a great take on it. I usually pass on romances to charity but I think I'll keep this one.

A fun reworking of the Beauty and the Beast tale set in Regency Britain which, as the author notes, is partially inspired by House. Passed the time nicely.

In her afterword, Eloisa James said she'd drawn some of her inspiration for this one from House. I see it! Irascible (isn't that a great word) male protagonist, who's a doctor, a grump, and walks with a cane.
Banter!!! A heroine who's kind of a bluestocking!
Just the right amount of sexiness. A medical mystery.

God, I love smart Regency-ish romance!

And I actually like this BETTER than House, because actual modern hospital stuff gives me SUCH creeps! Leeches are apparently less horrifying.
