      A great read. Inventive, positive, yet still full of mystery and intrigue. A fascinating fictional spin on Bigfoot. Very recommended to someone looking for a fun and (mildly) frightening story.

      This book is difficult for me to review. I can’t give detailed reasons why this book fell short for me without giving away too much of the plot. I have heard many good things about this author and I wish I had started with another of his books first. I guess I can say that two monster story lines going at the same time were just too many and added to the lack of believability. Having said that, it is not a bad book and I will be looking forward to reading another of Mr. Pereti's books.

      A captivating story that draws you right into the mystery and horror of what is going on in the forest. This book grabbed my attention from page one. It had me not wanting to put it down. With plenty of twists and turns it will keep you up late reading wanting to know what will happen next. My first book by this author but it definitely won't be my last.

      I got no sleep while reading this book. Why? ONE: we go to the lake alot which where we stay it's surrounded by woods. TWO: I live in a rural area that again, my house has lots of wooded area. THREE: it completely had me absorbed from beginning to end. Read it..enjoy it but do so in a nice hotel room somewhere far away from any remote areas.

      This book was pretty interesting. I've always wondered if Sasquatches really existed and if they did how they managed to hide for so long. But this book put a really cool spin on things and turned it around into an experiment gone wrong. In the beginning, we're seeing the world through the eyes of a hunter who realizes that the family has done something wrong and he tries to cover it up so that the beasts don't get caught. Then we meet Reed and Beck who are going to be camping and they are trying to meet with their friends. When they get to the cabin everything is all messed up so they figure bears must have done it. They settle in and wait for their friends but in the meantime they are being stalked by something out in the darkness. Beck unfortunately gets caught by the beast while Reed is chased through the woods until he has no idea where he is at or where Beck is. The book follows Reed as a search is conducted to find his wife. From hunters to searchers to dogs - they all think they are looking for a bear. A big bear, but Reed knows it was something else. Although noone else seems to believe him - he just knows because he saw it. The book takes a lot of twists and turns and even follows Beck's adventure with this strange family of beasts about every other chapter. Which was nice. We got to see how they react with people and each other. Which could be quite violent sometimes. The books plot got thicker towards the end of the book as everything unfolds.A lot of death, emotion, and violence at times it was a really good read. I love the works of Frank Peretti and am looking forward to reading more from him. I'm not going to say much more as then what would be the point in reading the book but really, it's a good fast read!

      This book is a little off the beaten path with, of course, monsters in it. The book was far fetched, but it was an easy quick read that was strangely hard to put down. If you absolutley abhor any kind of fantastical element in your horror don't pick this up. But if your in for something to take you away from the usual this is a good read.

      Had this, say, stayed the course of its almost Dean Koontz like plot line, Monster may well have been a good thriller. Unfortunately, the author deemed it necessary to inject some ridiculous anti-evolution / pro-creationist garbage into the work, and to do so in a way that anyone who was awake during most of a junior high science class could have smacked down with ease.Religion has inspired some great art, including great literature, and it can still do so today. Works that approach religion, or the divide between faith and science, like this book does, however, will never be among them.

      All 500 pages of this Peretti novel were devoured by me yesterday and into this morning. I read the first 150 pages during the afternoon between Sunday morning services and Sunday evening service.When Jess and I came home from church we decided NOT to watch any television, but to involve ourselves in our books!At about 10:30 Jess gave up trying to stay awake to read, so I headed back out to the living room with the light over my shoulder, I continued to read, and read some more, and read some more.I finished this morning at about 2AM. Altogether, I spent about 6 hours reading this book.The book was VERY different than normal Frank Peretti books! I expected the “monster” to be somewhat of a Spiritual being, sent to earth to wreck us all. That was not the case at all.Peretti DID show his typical-self in the arena of keeping my attention. I can remember reading “The Visitation” with a simliar reading-habit of not putting the book down until I finished.

      Although I enjoy all of Peretti's books, and found this particular work to have an engaging story line, I was disappointed to see Peretti move further away from Christianity. You can hardly call this work Christian, one of my original attractions to Peretti's works. Saying "pary" and "God" do not make something Christian or 80% of the secular work out there would be regarded as same.So summarily, the story was good, the characters workable, but I am disappointed that Peretti would try and sell to the Christian public a clearly secular book.

      I reckon that the most interesting thing about this book is the exploration of what makes a monster. The plot is fairly standard science goes wrong fare, and the characterisation reasonable, even if the cast list gets a bit unwieldly at times.I don't think that the creationist / evolutionist sub text is going to convince anyone with an opinion to change their mind, and the science isn't explained strongly enough to be useful to anybody who is undecided.Good vacation read, as long as you're not going to get too het up about the creationist stuff, in which case, give your blood pressure a break :-)

      A fantastic story that takes a long, hard look at evolution and the science that supports or contends this widely debated theory.Any issue this contentious is bound to get people hot under the collar. Read it and decide for yourself. Whther you agree or disagree with Peretti's conclusions, you're in for a roller-coaster ride.

      I'm a Peretti fan, I'm a Bigfoot fan, and I completely, with no doubts or reservations believe in Creation as opposed to Evolution. However, I can't swallow this story as being credible. When the Evolutionists started killing everyone like maniacs, the author lost me. If he lost me, I'm sure he lost any Evolutionists who may have been reading to that point. Though, in all fairness, authors and film makers have been portraying Christians as wild-eyed maniacs for years, so the temptation to get back some of our own is great. Not his best effort.

      Plot Summary: What happens, When & Where, Central Characters, Major ConflictsReed Shelton Thought that taking his wife Beck out to the woods for a survival Training course would be a great way to break her out of her extreme shyness. But the survival course turns out to be the real thing when they discover their guide has been killed and they encounter strange creatures in the night--strange creatures that abduct Beck. Now Reed must convince everyone--and himself--that he's not crazy and, along with his friends Cap and Sing, discover what happened to Beck--and who or what has taken her and who or what is killing people.Style Characterisics: Pacing, clarity, structure, narrative devices, etc.Told from shifing points of view--the most interesting being Becks as this shy stutterer learns how to live among a group of ape-like creatures and assert herself. The characters are developed pretty well and seem real--Beck's is the most compelling, and the creatures. There are a ton of supporting characters with the whole rescue team which can be confusing. The plot gets a bit convoluted too, with one thread about Cap's discoveries of a conspiracy by a scientist at the university. Things tie together pretty well at the end. How Good is it?A great read for a thrilling story with themes of evolution/creationism.
