About this audiobook

The Virals are put to the ultimate test when they find a geocache containing an ornate puzzle box. Shelton decodes the cipher inside, only to find more tantalizing clues left by "The Gamemaster." A second, greater geocache is within reach--if the Virals are up to the challenge.

But the hunt takes a dark turn when Tory locates the other box--a fake bomb, along with a sinister proposal from The Gamemaster. Now, the real game has begun: another bomb is out there--a real one--and the clock is ticking.

Book 3 in the Virals Series - it took me a little while to get into this one by once I was in I want d to read on and on and on to see how this one played out. I particularly enjoyed the code element of this book and have to solve puzzles on a treasure hunt to avoid a 'bomb' going off in Charleston. I really enjoy this series, and most probably prefer it to the Tempe Brennan books by Kathy Reichs. If you enjoy YA books, give them a try but you do need to start at Book 1 to get the context.

I like this series. The whole time though I was like BEN just tell her! But I guess when you're a teen you don't say what's on your mind.

Tory goes back and forth between sounding too young and too old for her age in this volume of the series. Once again the plot twists made up for it. Will definitely continue the series.

A gaming adventure, set up by the mysterious Gamemaster, turns serious with explosions, a fire and a death. Hurricane Katelyn provides a dangerous background as a final shootout occurs.

This third book in the Virals series was a bit harder to get into than the previous two. I'm not sure exactly why, but the story didn't seem to catch its stride for quite a few chapters.Tory, Shelton, Hi, and Ben get in way over their heads in this novel. It all starts with them finding a geocache. Simple enough, but then a clue in the geocache starts them on the trail of other clues as they go against a crazy opponent, trying to save innocents from this guy.Tory also has to deal with the reappearance of Chance Claybourne, a guy who sorta knows about the Virals and her Debut into South Carolinian something or other. This seemed like a very adult book on the YA scale. There were serious and violent topics addressed. Even so, there was still the typical teen angst running through the book, tension between Tory's friend Ben (a fellow Viral) and the dashingly handsome Jason (who knows nothing about the Virals), not to mention Tory's still trying to come to terms with her mother's death. As usual, the whole Tory's, 'aw shucks I just don't know how pretty/smart etc. I am' started to wear a little thin. The Hurricane Katelyn stuff was interesting, and I really liked the stuff at the Trappist Monastery, it was different and sorta outta left field.I was also happily surprised by one of the twists at the end. Didn't see it coming.Overall it was a solid book. And it very nicely set up the next book in the series where we the readers will hopefully get at least a few answers about some of the Virals related questions.

The action never stops in this science fiction thriller series. This time Tory and the other Virals find themselves in a race to solve the clues left by the Gamemaster before he unleashes a terrible tragedy. It begins innocently when Hi buys a metal detector and begins geocaching. The kids discover a hidden box Loggerhead Island that begins a treasure hunt with codes, clues from chemistry, and other clues to test their abilities. They need to keep the game secret or face serious consequences.Meanwhile, Tory is still being dragged into becoming a debutante by her father's girlfriend Whitney. The current dilemma is choosing the boy to escort her when she is presented. She is torn between golden boy Jason and her friend Ben who is also one of the Virals. The two boys definitely do not get along and, in fact, have a couple of fistfights during this story. Tory is fourteen and has never really had a boyfriend. Despite being precocious and mature for her age, she isn't quite ready for that.Speaking of Whitney, she is gradually moving stuff into Tory's father's home and trying to become Tory's best friend. Tory doesn't really get along with her and she certainly isn't thinking of Whitney as the one to replace the mother she lost in a drunk driving accident a year earlier. Tory throws a tantrum when her father Kit announces the Whitney will be moving in which makes her seem like a more realistic 14-year-old.To complicate matters even more, Chance has been released from the mental hospital he was in during the last book and is determined to find out what is going on with the Virals. He is aided by Madison who one of the mean girls at school and who witnessed Tory flaring and is now convinced she is possessed. This story sees the Virals learning more about their new powers and also sees a betrayal by one of the kids. I couldn't put this fast-paced adventure down and loved it.

In "Code," the third installment of Kathy Reichs' young adult series, Tory Brennan and the rest of the Virals are back for a geocaching hunt that, once again, places their lives in jeopardy. While the novel possesses the fast pace, wry humor, and accessible science that make Reichs' Temperance Brennan novels ("Déjà Dead", "Flesh and Bones") so enjoyable, the "Virals" novels are cowritten by her son, Brendan Reichs. Unfortunately, Brendan has not yet developed his mother's deft writing skills. The plot advances in a clunky manner and much of the dialogue reads as awkward and forced. Admittedly, writing young adult fiction requires a different skill set and approach from writing for adults. YA authors face the challenge of engaging their readers while not talking down to their audience. Before writing off the rest of the "Virals" series, young adult and older readers should have patience and allow Brendan Reichs to refine his voice as an author. His raw talent is already evident; he will undoubtedly improve with more writing experience.

The pack are having issues with their place in it and how to deal with people outside pack, they all want to be genuinely good at what they can do but they also fear it, they fear loss of autonomy and because there is only one girl and she appears to be looking outside pack for a partner while still being pack is causing tensions, particularly with Ben.Tory has to try to to cope with life and the pack, including her father's relationship with Whitney and Whitney's determination to make her come out and be part of another pack, a pack Tory barely understands. The pack gets caught up in a serial killer's plans and their skills will be needed to save them and their families.Interesting but sometimes it felt a bit slow and belaboured.

I enjoy this series - in which the main character is a teenage girl that hangs around with a bunch of somewhat geeky guys and they solve mysteries and deal with the genetic change wrought on them in the first novel - an abheration which allows them heightened senses and strength and some other abilities.

"Code" is more of a thriller than "Seizure" and contains some truly gripping moments, it's easy to see that Reichs carves her mark in the thriller/forensics novel business, and Tory takes after her aunt in many ways. She's also willful, charismatic and occasionally very blind to certain things going on around her. Just like a typical teenage girl.

I really enjoy these books, as they do not get into that whole, nauseating and frankly unrealistic "you were my first love, my one love, my true love" rubbish that so many of the teen semi-paranormal genre are guilty of. Tory and her gang are just four teens having adventures and solving mysteries - like a modern day Famous Five, in some ways.

teen suspence. There is a little something lost when writing for the teen market. The depth is not quite there. but this is still an excelent book that I would recomend even to adults. The story is finding a geocash and the dangerous game that it leads to, there is also some of the comming of age stuff, especially a ball.apparently this is the third book, read and enjoyed the first so now must - repeat must - find the second

I love Reichs' style, and this book was no disappointment. The characters are dynamic, the story engaging, and the end was absolutely thrilling! Just needs a little more romance.

Hi finds a geocache but it isn't a typical cache. The rest of the Virals help him to figure out how to open the puzzle box, which leads to a couple of sheets of paper with a picture clue and a message from the Gamesmaster. The Virals think it is all in good fun, but soon realize that they are trapped into playing with a madman. I thoroughly enjoyed the puzzles and even the angst of Victoria having to attend the debutante ball.
