About this audiobook

Over the course of his legal career, Andy Carpenter has lost a few cases. But that doesn’t mean he forgets his clients. Andy has always been convinced that Joey Desimone, a man convicted of murder nine years ago, was innocent and believes that Joey’s family’s connections to organized crime played a pivotal role in his conviction. While there isn’t much Andy can do for him while he serves out his prison sentence, Joey suggests that he check up on Joey’s elderly uncle. He’d rather not, but as a favor to Joey, Andy agrees to take his dog, Tara, on a few visits. The old man’s memory is going, but when Andy tries to explain why he’s there, it jogs something in the man’s mind, and his comments leave Andy wondering if Uncle Nick is confused, or if he just might hold the key to Joey’s freedom after all this time. Andy grabs on to this thread of possibility and follows it into a world where the oath of silence is stronger than blood ties, and where people will do anything to make sure their secrets are kept.

Better than the last one, about the same as the rest of the series. Well read & very twisty. This is the last I can get at this time. It was a fun series to listen to - legal murder mysteries with dogs & a fun, self-deprecating hero. The other characters are all memorable, if somewhat overblown, too. They're fun reads.

No one combines humor with suspense quite like David Rosenfelt. In this installment in the Andy Carpenter series, Andy discovers some new evidence that allows for a retrial of one his clients, now imprisoned for six years. Though his father is in the mob, Joey insists he never entered the family business. Much happens in this mystery: murders, drug running, kidnapping, near murders, rescues, a trial, and therapy dog visits, among other things. But don’t forget the humor that is liberally sprinkled throughout this gripping and suspenseful tale.

As usual I enjoyed Andy's ruminations and wit. Unfortunately the mystery interested me not at all.

The writing, the humor, the plot, the characters and just the way it was all put together. Every book I have read By Rosenfelt has been delightful and I am so glad I happened upon his series. I would love to read more books by him he is a bright accomplished author who injects humor in to every story. The fact that he is a dog lover is important to me as I am a rescuer of dogs. I️ always feel enlightened and happy when I read one of his books.

The best! I've written reviews for a couple of this series. The author and reader are great.. With David Rosenfelt writing the series and Grover Gardner reading it's a perfect fit. I've listened to books with great author's, which lost some of its appeal by who was chosen to read. With Gardner reading the series he does the smart, sarcastic, chicken shit attorney Andy Carpenter, the cast of colorful characters Justice. Listen and I believe you'll agree.

organized-crime, international-crime-and-mystery, murder, murder-investigation, law-enforcement, lawyers, family-dynamics, fast-pace, feds, firearms, friendship, situational-humor, snark-fest, verbal-humor, dogs, computer-nerd*****Another intriguing story with a fairly high body count and some help from the Feds. Andy Carpenter is a wisemouthed lawyer who can afford to take semi retirement by only representing innocent clients while supporting an animal shelter. Add in that his wife is no longer law enforcement but works as his private investigator and more and you have the baseline for these convoluted mysteries. There are many other people who help Andy find out what the truth really is and make it courtroom admissible. This is another one that is kind of scary in the *it is uncomfortably possible* sense. No spoilers, and the snarkfest keeps it from being too realistic. Lots of twists and turns in the plot and the characters certainly are, but there's no need for spoilers or an attempt at a summary. I found it to be a real brain grabber and it is one in a series of interesting and well written mysteries. At no time does the reader feel lost or as if missing background info.Grover Gardner narrates this complicated snarkfest very well!

With this latest instalment in the series we rejoin Andy Carpenter et al in their latest quest for justice. This time around it’s Joey Desimone who brings Andy out of his voluntary semi-retirement. Andy defended Joey when he was accused of a double murder. Through a curious set of circumstances Andy becomes privy to information that may prove Joey truly is innocent. Andy needs to follow that information, which as usual, lands him in some sort of trouble. This time is with “the mob”.

As with many series, the books tend to become just a little predictable. The story line changes, but the action pretty much follows a pattern, and why not if its successful. This series (and book) is no different. The saving grace is the characters. Their predictability is what keeps me coming back. As I’ve said before, it’s like visiting with old friends. It’s fun.

Andy Carpenter is back with his witty humor and millions of dollars. He doesn’t have to work if he doesn’t want to and usually takes cases he knows he wins. But those losers still haunt him. Such is the fact of Joey Desimone who was convicted of murder and has spent the past nine years in prison. Of course, he says he’s innocent and Andy believes him. His father is also a crime boss which makes it difficult for Andy . With a new piece of information, Andy follows the ever so thin trail to see where it leads.I have read all the Andy Carpenter novels and enjoy the sarcastic nature of Andy and his travels through New Jersey. Rosenfelt certainly keeps you guessing and the mystery holds throughout. But this time around Andy isn’t as sarcastic as when I first began reading, although still a funny guy. Andy’s friends and/or co-workers are not used as much in this novel and are more or less background (except for two). Still an enjoyable mystery, just not up to par with what I expect from this series.

Great writing, humorous and entertaining. David Rosenfelt has written a wonder mystery filled with the unjustly incarcerated, mobsters, hit men and Marcus. Add in a golden retriever, a beautiful woman and, of course, the smart mouth lawyer, Andy Carpenter and you have a winning combination

This page-turner continues to show Andy Carpenter at his best. At the same time that he's lazy and irreverent, he takes on another case of an underdog, this time a mob boss's son whom he defended unsuccessfully six years earlier. With new evidence, Carpenter determines to set the record staright with a new trial to find the guy innocent this time around. Carpenter's sarcasm and integrity make for an appealing combination, and the plot moves along very quickly.
