About this audiobook
No poet is more closely identified with the First World War than Wilfred Owen. His striking body of work, grim to the point of brutality yet, at the same time, majestic and awe-inspiring, defines the war for us.
It is in each of these famous poems that Owen reflects on the four terrible months that he lived through; he conveys the experience of war, the death, the destruction and the filth, through a unique poetic language and a bold artistic vision.
This anthology collects 49 of Owen’s iconic poems and serves not only as a perfect introduction to his verse but also as a commemoration of the sacrifice that was made by an entire generation of young men.

Wilfred Owen
Wilfred Owen (1893-1918) was one of the leading poets of the First World War. His war poetry on the horrors of trenches and gas warfare was much influenced by his mentor Siegfried Sassoon and stood in contrast to the public perception of war at the time and to the confidently patriotic verse written by earlier war poets such as Rupert Brooke.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good survey of the main poets of World War I, including the most famous but also some less well known. Written firmly from a pacifist perspective and therefore shows some bias against those poets who saw the war in a better light than those whose poetry is best known today (eg Julian Grenfell, whose beautiful paeon of praise to fighting, 'Into Battle' is described as 'rather horrifying' and rather loftily seen as the product of a culture of the past.
