Robin T. Popp picks up seamlessly where Jennifer Ashley left off in The Calling. Darius is an immortal, called by his brother and the coven of light in order to fight the demon who is holding their brother Tain. He appears in New York City near where Lexi, local bounty hunter and werewolf is apprehending a skip. As they fall for each other, the also manage to locate the demon and foil his latest plan.I was concerned that the other authors of this series would not be able to live up to Jennifer Ashley's standards, but Popp, at least, does an excellent job. The writing styles and continuity are so similar, if I didn't know any better I'd think the two books were written by the same author. Popp's offering seem slightly steamier than Ashley's but she had more to work with as Ashley had to spend a fair amount of time engaged in world-building. One thing I hadn't noticed in the last book is that it seems this series takes place in a time on Earth that is slightly futuristic, or at least alternate. In this universe humans are not only aware of the existence of magical creatures, but actually have institutions for dealing with them, such as a Ministry of Vampires that makes sure humans sign affidavits of intent when being converted to vampirism and also try to make sure that an acceptable level of vampires are being converted. Recommended for any fan of paranormal romance.

The Darkening by Robin Popp is the second in the Immortal Series. The priamary characters are Lexi a werewolf and Darius an Immortal. Darius is only one of 5 brothers who now exist. They are the ones that keep the balance between evil and good in the world. Darius is on a mission to stop a rogue demon and to save his brother Tain from this demon. Lexi who is a witch/werewolf helps him. There are a few twists in the story which makes you wonder how the plot will carry out. Well Ms. Popp does a fine job of pulling it off. The character of Lexi is strong not wimpy and knows her own mind. She doesn't numbly follow Darius around like a mindless character. She has intelligence and uses it. She is stubborn and does NOT cowtow to Darius. I did find it hard to really visulize Darius in this story. In the first book with Adrian I actually could "see" the character. Darius was a bit harder to see. I think he needed more information about him, something to latch on to. Needless to say, it was a good story and I still enjoyed it. I will continue on with the third book in the series. I want to see if any of the other brothers are able to save Tain who is increasingly evasive and seems to just slide out of Adrian's and Darius' grasp. Good paranormal romance/erotica reading.

His goddess, mother and protector is Sekhmet who is desperate to keep him safe. However her plans go awry and instead of helping Darius she hinders him. He finds himself in the company of Lexi, a werewolf bounty hunter. They have to band together to defeat a demon and vampires trying to end the world. It's a fun series, nothing too demanding but interesting.
