About this audiobook

After faking his own death, Kal Hakala is free of the Bureau of Supernatural Investigation and can finally focus his energy on destroying the monster that murdered his sister. With the help of trusted former teammates, he embarks on a quest to find an artifact to activate a magical Tesla Coil, the only device powerful enough to kill a legend. But wherever Kal goes, trouble isn't far behind. It's not easy to locate an artifact without alerting the BSI. Kal narrows his search to Las Vegas, where he and his friends encounter the greatest peril ever to threaten our worlda threat found only in Sin City but rooted in World War II Germany, site of the past's most heinous crimes. Can Kal overcome an enemy so diabolical, so evil, that annihilating millions is merely one phase of its master plan? The task seems impossible, but for Kal Hakala, the best agent in the BSI's history, the impossible only requires patience and careful planning. Patience is not Kal's strong suit.

I don't know how I missed writing this review?anyway... just went and flipped back through it, and it really is as enjoyable as I remember. It's not the first book in the series, but it's the only one I've read so far. It works pretty well on its own, although I'm sure it would be a little easier to follow if I'd read the first book first.Kal has faked his own death in order to escape his job in the BSI (Bureau of Supernatural Investigations). He really REALLY wants to kill the monster that murdered his sister. It's a fairly original story (and even the time-traveling Nazis don't seem out of place... how is that even possible?) with so much vividly described action that I kind of wish it could be turned into a movie.

In the very beginning, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it actually wasn't that bad. The feeling didn't last long.At first it was just okay. Even when they suddenly introduced time travel (totally bizarre), it was doing all right. But it got old fast. All four main characters are exactly the same. Violent, think their tough as nails, and very flat. You can tell the author tried to give them some depth in various scenes, but it just comes across as rather ridiculous.Which is the perfect word for the entire book: ridiculous. Mark Everett Stone is constantly referencing all kinds of things (Stargate, Addam's Family, MacGuyver), which comes across as kind of tacky and implies that you can't describe things yourself. One or two mild references are fine, but please, don't go overboard. And then, since we were time traveling, we had to meet multiple famous people of the past. J.R.R Tolkein, Ian Fleming's brother, and various infamous Nazis. The book would've been all right if it hadn't been so long, but like I said, it got old -really- fast.

I didn't read the first book in the series so it took me a little while to play catch up with the storyline and the way the perspective changes every few chapters. The action and characters make this book a gripping one that you just can't put down. I

Blood, violence, superhuman Nazis, a kick ass elite squad of paramilitary fighters....very entertaining. I have not read the first in this series, so I was missing some back story going in, but I don't feel it was a huge detriment, you catch up. I loved the Nazi plot, but felt like the bookend was boring. Kal and his team are fighting necromancing Nazis...do you really need the giant sea monster. Although, the pit fighting in an alternate world was pretty cool too....could have read a couple more chapters about that. Overall, really entertaining!

A great read! It took me a while to get into it since I had not read the first book, but once it got going, it zoomed! Can't wait to see what trouble Kal gets into next.... Interesting characters, it is a good buddy movie come to life. I get a little tired of the all-knowing bosses, but you need that to keep someone like Kal in line. The support characters were interesting enough that they could use a book on them, also. I have to get the first novel now!

hat Happens in Vegas, Dies in Vegas is the second installment in the From the Files of the BSI series by Mark Everett Stone. I reviewed book one Things to Do in Denver When You're Undead (loved it), last summer. You can read that review here. After the MAJOR shizz that went down at the end of book one, I was ready to find out what was coming up next for uber-hero Kal, the ultimate "man's man". Would he remain underground, hidden from the BSI? Would he finally get vengeance on the demon that killed his sister? Would he be able to keep delivering all the clever one-liners? The answers: Maybe, maybe and YES. The dialogue, internal and verbal, is undoubtedly my favorite aspect of this series. Talk about a bunch of smart a$$es (meant as a compliment)! These people expend as much energy throwing verbal punches as they do kicking supernatural butt. The entertainment factor in the dialogue kept me speeding along with my reading, usually shaking my head as the characters always tried to one-up each other. The continuous action, which served to consistently move the plot forward, was a lot broader than book one. The plot involved everything from fighting former co-workers and supernatural baddies, to time travelling and literally changing history. The story was broad, to say the least, and very interesting. But I found myself getting a tiny bit lost and having to re-read sections to make sure I was following. What Happens in Vegas, Dies in Vegas served up a lot of resolution, intrigue, and creativity. I have absolutely no idea what the author is going to throw at Kal and company next. If you like your urban fantasy heavy on the action and thrills, and low on the romance factor, this one's for you. Favorite Quote:(Another character describing main character Kal)"Sure he was hunky and all that with his mop of blond hair, Errol Flynn good looks and big muscles, but he was a man obsessed with killing a Class Five Supernatural. So bent on revenge that it was an obsession. He was Ahab, Khan, and Victor von Frankenstein all rolled up into one big, sexy package."

What Happens in Vegas, Dies in Vegas (From the Files of the Bsi) by Mark Everett StoneCamel Press (2011), Paperback, 302 pagesIf you haven't read Book One of the BSI it will take a chapter or two to get oriented. Figuring out who does what and how; magic, mayhem or maven, but once you've got that in place the story flows quite smoothly.Stone does change perspectives every chapter or two, but it's generally clear who's voicing the tale at any given moment. That may give a challenge to those readers who are not accustomed to a multi-threaded perspective. Despite the title, most of the story does not take place in Vegas, though that is the nexus point from where things develop.Along the way we encounter people and places from the near and distant past. While undertaking their mission the team members are conscious of the Paradox Principal – how much that they interfere in the past without irrevocably changing the future? Kal and Mouth make some interesting connections with people in the past who they'd recognize from their own future and have to figure out the best way to handle those alliances. In all a very well constructed paranormal thriller and I look forward to the next book in the BSI (Bureau of Supernatural Investigation) Series.

Not one of my favorites, but I had a pretty good time with Kal and the gang. Very intriguing premise of off-world goin's on.

This is a second book in the series so it takes some time to get up to speed. It's a kind of supernatural/fantasy action thriller, similar maybe to 'Men in Black' but with much more gore. Add to that the Underworld and time travel. The writing is easy and good. There are some original twists (for example, Goebbels, Ribbentrop, et al being evil magicians) and some trivial tricks. Overall, the book is fun to read if you are into these kind of books. I will be looking for the next book in this series.

After faking his own death in order to leave the BSI, Kal has gathered some former teammates and started working on a plan to take down Iku-Turso, the Class Five Supernatural who killed his sister all those years ago. In his quest to find an Artifact of power to use to power the magical Tesla Coil, he stumbles across a real mess in Las Vegas – an evil dating from WWII, which is seeking to find the strength in modern times to change the course of history. Can Kal find a way to stop it? And can he finally find a way to destroy Iku-Turso?This is the second book in the BSI series, which is shaping up to be a great series. I was very happy to see Canton Alsate make a repeat appearance as one of Kal’s team. The plot in this one is unrelenting and had as many twists as a road over a mountain pass - I loved it! We also get more of Kal’s parents and I love the development that is put into Stone’s characters. This is definitely a new favorite series and I am quite looking forward to the third book, “I Left my Haunt in San Francisco.” There is no date given for this next book, but considering the first two came out within six months of one another, I’m hoping we’ll see the next one similarly quickly. Check this great new series out – you won’t regret it!
