Fancy Nancy is less than thrilled when vacation arrives but her best friend Bree takes off for a family vacation to New York City. Her mother comforts her with a pack of glitter markers, and our favorite fancy girl decides to turn her backyard clubhouse into an art studio. Over the course of the week she creates pieces in the style of Degas, Monet, Matisse and Pollock. When Bree finally returns, complete with sketches she did in New York, the two girls and their friend Lionel have an art show in their back yard...The fourth smaller-sized Fancy Nancy picture-book that I have read - the others being Fancy Nancy: Explorer Extraordinaire!, Fancy Nancy: Poet Extraordinaire and Fancy Nancy: Ooh La La! It's Beauty Day - this charming title is partly fictional and partly non-fictional, pairing the story of Nancy's vacation art experiences with information about real artists, and reproductions of their works. Unlike some of the earlier titles in this format, there was no afterword with further information, which was something of a disappointment. Still, the end result was a delight, both from a narrative and an illustrative standpoint. I continue to find this series engaging, with books that are both entertaining and informative. Recommended to all Fancy Nancy fans, and to young would-be artists.

This is probably a 3.5 star book. I liked it better than some of the other books about Nancy that have come out lately, but it doesn't hold the charm of the first three either.

Fancy Nancy’s best friend goes out of town leaving Nancy with nothing to do; but, mom brings home so markers with glitter and Nancy feels inspired to draw pictures. She decides to open up her own art gallery, but when she tries to finish her gallery she cannot think of anything else to draw. Her father takes her and her friend Lionel to an art gallery and Nancy becomes inspired to go art like the famous artist in the exhibit. This is a great book for children who are interested in art. It teaches children about different artist and art styles.

This book is part of the Fancy Nancy Series, and is about Nancy as she learns to cope with the absence of her best friend over her spring vacation from school. Nancy's mom decides to buy Nancy fun art supplies to keep Nancy occupied, and Nancy quickly becomes inspired and develops a love for art! This fun story is perfect for little girls who are trying to find the artist in them, and who love reading about Nancy trying to be fancy in all that she does!

I was so happy to receive this book from LT's Early Reviewers program. Thank you! I have always loved Fancy Nancy and this book is no disappointment! I am so happy the authors chose this artist theme as we are an artistic family. My 7 year old daughter loved this book as she has loved all the others. Winner!

Well I’ll be glued and glittered; Ms. Fancy Nancy Clancy has yet another exciting adventure. The story begins with Fancy Nancy standing in the rain watching her friend Bree leave for a New York City vacation. Nancy needs something to do while her friend is glamming it up in NYC, so inspired by a gift of glitter markers from her mom, she starts to create and explore art. The illustrations are well done, and augment (that’s a fancy word for adding to) the entertaining (and …shhhh don’t tell anyone….educational) text. While this book would certainly charm girls in the 5-7 age range, Lionel, a male friend of Fancy Nancy, may attract some male readers with his antics. While I would not purchase this book for a boy, it would be one that could appeal to boys in a storytime, or a family bed time story.

I thought this book would be perfect for my aspiring artist daughter, but she and I were both unimpressed by the book. There really was no story--just a list of art projects that Nancy tried. I really miss the originality and personality of the first few books. Also, my daughter wanted to know what happened with Bree--the story starts out with Nancy missing her friend but then the friend theme is totally dropped and it ends with her happy about getting a manicure. There's no story arc at all. I'd recommend this book only for extreme Fancy Nancy fans who like anything about her whether there is a story or not.The illustrations are the best part of this book.

This is a lovely little book introducing art of the last 150 years to the 4-7 year old story listener. Surprisingly, though my 3 year old listened happily it was my 6 year old son who demanded to hear the story again immediately after it was finished the first time through. It was indeed far less girly-fancy than previous volumes in the series, and more focused on childhood art appreciation for both girls and boys.Little always-Fancy Nancy pines briefly for her best friend off on a New York vacation, until her parents pep her up with some art exposure. Pollock, Degas, Matisse, Monet, what could be finer? Nancy, little sister, and friends get a chance to imitate each artistic style and finally hold their own tres-magnifique art show for the neighborhood. Ooh-la-la!

Fancy Nancy's sad because her best friend Bree has gone to New York for spring vacation, leaving Nancy behind. But when Nancy's mom brings home fancy new glitter markers, Nancy's inspired to create art! But what kind?Nancy's always cute, if a little precocious, but I really enjoyed this one (haven't read many of the others, though now that I think of them, this one does follow the others' format). As Nancy tries out different forms of art - markers, painting, nature subjects, faces - she learns a bit about four different artists and their subjects or style of art (Degas and his ballerinas, Monet and his fondness for painting out side, Matisse and his paper cut-outs, Pollock and his paint splatter).A great book for young aspiring artists and fancy girls. :)Recommended.

Fancy Nancy is adorable as ever in Aspiring Artist. Nancy is feeling blue after her friend leaves for vacation, but after a pick me up from her mother, Nancy finds inspiration for her art in many places. This book is filled with teachable moments and those wonderfully fancy words! The boys will even enjoy Nancy's goofball friend Lionel.

Another cute Fancy Nancy book. This book involves Nancy finding some inspiration for her artwork. It includes artists like Monet and Degas. Adorable as usual.
