- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The basic formula offered in this book is to write a morning journal to cleanse and open your thoughts for the day, and to take a weekly art date and/or walk to encourage inspiration and spark creativity, while following a scheduled program to overcome other things, like procrastination.
I don’t devalue those suggestions, because they are excellent, especially if one feels stuck in creativity and life itself. However, they aren’t exactly innovative ideas, and it doesn’t take a whole book like this to explain how to do it without leaving a feeling of pedantic, and long-winded. The author’s approach to writing the book was such that it basically felt like I was reading a first-person diary, rather than a first-person authored exploration into new ideas.... this made it difficult to get into the actual subject of the book simply because the subject itself was a constant tug of war between being the intended content versus the author simply writing a memoir with a handful of tips and suggestions along the way.
If you can get past all of that, you might enjoy the book. I could not, and though I feel bad about it, I can only give two stars.2 people found this helpful

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A moment in time. An excellent book to be reading over the New Year's holiday, and an excellent book to be reading when I'm trying to ramp up my walking regime. I need this really important reminder of the connection between my creativity and getting enough exercise.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love Julia Cameron. This book was given to me by a woman from my church women's group. It was the PERFECT inspirational guide I needed for the summer. I read a chapter a day and was transformed!
