About this audiobook
THE ALL-NEW KGI NOVEL BY NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELING AUTHOR AUTHOR MAYA BANKS
The Kelly Group International (KGI): A super-elite, top secret, family-run business. Qualifications: High intelligence, rock-hard body, military background. Mission: Hostage/kidnap victim recovery. Intelligence gathering. Handling jobs the U.S. government can't…
Eden is said to be one of the most beautiful women in the world. Her face has graced countless magazines and her body has sold millions of dollars of clothing. But her fame and beauty has earned her more than she ever imagined. Evil is stalking her, determined to extinguish the ethereal beauty forever.
Swanson or "Swanny" as his teammates call him is always up for the next mission. He came back from Afghanistan wounded and scarred. Hardly the kind of man who even belongs in the same room with Eden. And yet there's something about the quiet beauty that stirs his blood and makes him dream of the impossible. Because Beauty loving the Beast only happens in fairy tales and KGI doesn't deal in fairy tales. Ever.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5There is enough content here for a novella, not a full length novel. I expect a lot of action from a KGI novel and there is very little here. Quite disappointing.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Continuing the KGI series, this is a good story; better than the last. I enjoyed the main characters and the story.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This romantic suspense was just so-so. I can understand the hero having insecurity about his face but not a whole book about it. I skimmed a lot. There was not much real action until the very end. Swanny and his KGI team are called in to protect beautiful model Eden and they have an instant attraction to each other.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5When Day Breaks by Maya Banks#9 KGI (Kelly Group Int'l)Daryl "Swanny" Swanson & Eden SinclairThis is the first book I've read in this series, and although I can see the appeal, unfortunately, this particular book was a disappointment. I liked all the characters and the suspense part of the story just fine, but the gooeyness of the love story was awkward. That's saying something because I read a lot of romance and I have a high threshold for saccharine. It was entirely too sappy. I believed that the characters could eventually end up with each other and would be a good match, but this was insta-love, which sometimes can be cool, but I wasn't sold on it this time around. It happened way too fast with very little interaction between the two. In less than 24 hours they already knew they were falling in love with each other and that was after only sharing intense and broody stares. The hero had some scarring on his face and body after being held captive and tortured when a previous mission had ended badly. A little bit of him being self-conscious and her reassuring him it didn't matter would be fine. Instead, throughout the entire book, that is all we hear about. Him either being stunned into silence that this supermodel would like him, or her making a point to touch his scars and telling him how beautiful he is. Stop reminding him about his scars, woman. Sheesh. This would happen at the worst moments. A wilting flower sound effect played in my head, but fortunately for Eden, Swanny was oblivious. There was way too much internal dialogue going on, too much of the supposedly alphaman tough guy staring off into space thinking of how much he luuuuuvvvvvvs her and how unworthy he is to even have her lower herself to look upon his beastliness, when there is a bleeping psycho out there trying to kill her. I really like you a lot, Swanny, but get your head in the game, bozo. I know this is a well-loved series and author, and I liked enough things about this to want to read about the other characters, but I definitely got the impression while reading this particular book that the author was in a rush and didn't spend enough time tweaking it to fix the problem areas which can be a distraction to the reader.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Vivacious Valkyrie - Marta:*Copy gifted in exchange for an honest reviewThis is the ninth book in this very popular series that is centred around a military family. The Kelly family have all served in various parts of the military and their breadth of experience is something they put to good use working as a top secret recovery organisation . When something goes wrong and you need help then there's none better than KGI!Swanson or Swanny as he's known served in Afghanistan with Nathan and Joe Kelly where he was captured, tortured and left hideously disfigured. The Kelly's are a fiercely loyal family and when Swanny needed a job there was never a doubt that he belonged with them . Now adopted into the family business he's found his place in the world and if being a badass is called for then he's the one for the job!Eden works as a model and she's slowly but surely climbing to the top of that cutthroat world. Hailed as one of the most beautiful women in the world she's somehow managed to keep her feet on the ground but her perfect world is about to come crashing down ! Edens father has a secret and it's been eating away at him but now that secret is about to raise it's ugly head and Eden is the one whose in danger of being bitten! She needs protection and it has to be the best but luckily her brother Ryker served with the Kelly's and Swanny so he knows just who to call. Swanny spent many a cold lonely night remembering the photos Ryker had of his lovely sister and now he can't quite believe that he's finally going to meet her. Swanny realises that women find his looks frightening but Eden sees beneath the scars and what she sees is all man!I love the Kelly's and all the associated characters that have somehow been adopted into their clan . These fierce, hard working characters just leap off the page with their own special brand of troubleshooting . This is romantic suspense at it's best and has delighted readers for quite some time but I must admit I felt a little disappointed with the first half of this book. I guess I just wanted a bit more action but the author spent the time allowing readers to catch up with characters from previous stories and see what was happening in their lives. I'm sure some readers will enjoy seeing the softer side of these tough men but I much prefer more action and plot. The romance between Eden and Swanny was a gentle one but a little surprising. Eden works in the very brash and hard world of modelling so finding her to be sweet and innocent just felt a little odd. I expected her to be an experienced woman but she did actually woo Swanny which made a nice twist. There's nothing more amusing than reading about a big tough man flailing around when a woman takes control ! Lucky Swanny had no idea that all his dreams were about to come true!Having said that I wasn't completely on board initially I would reassure readers that Ms Banks had a fantastic plot twist up her sleeve and the second half of this book really gathered pace. A nail biting end to this story that really allowed Swanny to step up and be the hero that readers always knew he was.So if you like reading about alpha military males with rock hard bodies and a heart as wide as a mile then you need to get this book. Swanny may have given up on love but luckily this author hadn't given up on him! Everyone deserves a second chance and with the KGI behind him he finally gets his!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5When Day Breaks by Maya BanksEden a model that has body guards due to her military father, knows when something is wrong.A shooter tried to take her out. Her dad had summoned the brothers for a meeting and he tells them all he knows-starts with his wife who had been targeted and killed. He fears they are after the daughter now...and Reed says he can get the KGI group to help take the murderers son out, once and for all. Swanny and others are on board and want to help. She selects Swanny to personally guard her and all the others in the background. They are sexually chemically attracted to one another and slowly go to that goal.Hot steamy sex scenes and I love the travel overseas. He doesn't want to show her the physiologic and physical scars he's acquired fighting in the war...he sees himself as a beast and her a beauty. The criminal has been abducted but then why was she being kidnapped? I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
