About this audiobook

Almost one year ago, a Mage attacked Silver and changed the course of her destiny.
Immortals exist, and now she is one of them.

Within the dark and supernatural city of Cognito, Silver is living under the watchful eye of her Ghuardian and dating her mortal enemy. Neither man can protect her from a dark secret, one buried within the contents of a box. As rival factions struggle to gain control, she finds herself in the middle of a centuries-old feud that threatens to drive a wedge between her and Logan Cross, the man who intends to seduce her.

In an explosive turn of events, one life is saved and another is forever altered. Can Silver trust those around her, or are they hiding a dark secret of their own?

darn good story. Dannika has mastered the art of the slow burn seduction with a story that does not rely upon the love interests. Strong female lead that is not too perfect or too flawed. Cannot wait to listen to next book

On her last case as an FBI profiler, Jess Harris was tasked with apprehending The Player, a sadistic serial killer skilled in the arts of cruelty and torture. When the prime suspect escaped justice, Jess returned home to Alabama, but it seems that the Player has followed and chosen to take his revenge buy targeting those closest to her. Can Jess stop him before time runs out for those she loves …

The story begins immediately following the cliffhanger of the last book with Jess and Dan thrown into the search for their missing colleague. This provides a strong sense of continuity and it is easy to get back into the story and the characters.

Jess is a more appealing heroine than before perhaps due to the fact that her vulnerability in the face of the Player’s horrendous acts makes her more human and approachable.

Dan and Jess’s romance takes a back seat to the suspense, which puts this book solidly in the thriller category rather than romantic suspense. Moreover, the focus placed on Dan’s previous relationships does not endear him and puts a damper on his hero status.

The twists and turns of the plot make for exciting reading as the true identity of the villain remains open almost to the last. However, the final scenes are somewhat anti-climactic and the ending is left open obviously for future developments.

All in all, the serial killer plot is good and the romance has potential so I’ll be continuing with the series.

For a mystery/suspense fan like me this series is right up my reading alley. It is dark but not too over the edge with some strong lead characters in Jess and Dan. Which by the way I like the way that their relationship is developing. They both have issues but these make them real. Thus I am more invested in them. The serial killer is evil. The killings he conducts might not be for the weak of heart. Although there are not a lot of gory details spent on the killings. The cat and mouse game between Jess and the killer is a good one. There can only be one winner but until the end game there will be blood and bodies.

AUTHOR: Webb, DebraTITLE: ImpulseDATE READ: 06/26/15RATING: 4.5/B+GENRE/PUB DATE/PUBLISHER/# OF PGS Romantic Suspense/2013/Grand Central Publixhing/295 pgs SERIES/STAND-ALONE #1 in Faces of EvilCHARACTERS Special Agent Jess Harris; Police Chief Dan Burnett TIME/PLACE 2013, Birmingham, AL FIRST LINES: Did you know that one drop of blood travels from the heart to the toes and back in under 60 seconds? COMMENTS: Agent Jess Harris has redeemed herself by her work on the case in Birmingham, AL and is offered the position of deputy chief of a new division. It would mean working w/ Burnett. In this episode The Player -- the one that got away from her in Washington D.C. appears to be in Birmingham -- or is it a copycat. He is targeting everyone close to Jess. The stakes are even higher now that he has involved her family and friends. Really enjoying this series!

Jess has just been offered a job with the Birmingham PD when they discover that detective Lori Wells has been kidnapped. Jess and Dan fear that the notorious serial killer, the Player has kidnapped her in an attempt to lure Jess into his clutches. This book is really good. It is the second in the Faces of Evil series. You could read it as a stand alone although Webb refers to events that happened in the first book. Jess and Dan as well as many of the secondary characters are well defined and seem real to me. Despite their professionalism, they all come with baggage. Lori Wells was a favorite of mine in the first book and I was really concerned about her in this one. Although there is a lot of violence towards women in this book, Webb does not dwell on long, gross descriptions. Also, though there are romances blooming, there is very little sex and no long, icky descriptions either. I am not a prude, but I don't need to see the math. So if you can stand a bit of blood but are not cool with sex scenes, this series might be for you. Although as I said the romances are blooming so the action might heat up. We shall see. I will be reading the 3rd book soon.

Impulse by Debra Webb 5 STARSImpulse is the second book of Face's of Evil. I did not want to put the book down untill I finshed it. Next book up will be book 3 and then I will have to wait for the next ones. I read somewhere that it is a 10 or 12 book series when done.Impulse takes up right after Obsession ends. It is nonstop action and suspense. Can they find Detective Lori Wells before her kidnapper she turns up Dead.Special Agent Jess Harris is getting texts from the kidnapper. She is sure it is the Player who they had to let go of.The kidnapper is different this time making little changes, showing his face here and thier are things happening back in Virgina that she does not know about.Jess was asked to come and lead a new task force that would cover different cities and county on cases that don't fall into usuall catergories. Jess knows that soon her FBI badge will be taken away from her.Thier are more kidnapped victims that are people she knows or has met.Chief of Police Dan Burnett and the county Sheriff both want Jess to come to work for them. She saved the 5 girls that were missing in the area. Plus Dan does not want her to leave him again.Back home for Jess her neighbor was murdered and Jess's home was broke into and a message written in blood is on her wall. Thier is also found a wall of pictures of who she suspects is the Player. with pictures of her cut into them.Jess's FBI Boss thinks she has a fixation on Eric Spears AKA the Player. He wants her off the case. He is worried about law suits and complaints from Eric.Eric is under watch back in Virgina how can he be their but sene here by witnesses. They eyed his photo. It has to be Eric or someone he works with.Thier are detectives who resent that this new Deputy Chief job is being offered to Jess when they have the years in the police force in Birningham. But this new position was created with her in mind after watching her work with police and county and her skills in profiling.Jess is being attacked which ever way she looks. She is even doubting herself.I have been drawn to these characters. I wanted Lori to be found in time. I want Jess and Dan to work out and the Player to be caught. I need to go read the next book!I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review from Netgalley.08/07/2012 PUB Grand Central Publishing Imprint Forever Yours
