About this audiobook

Cassandra Palmer recently defeated a god, which you'd think would buy a girl a little time off. But it doesn't work that way when your job description is Pythia-the world's chief clairvoyant. Cassie is busier than ever, trying to learn about her power, preparing for her upcoming coronation, and figuring out her relationship with the enigmatic sexy master vampire, Mircea.

But someone doesn't want Cassie to become Pythia, and is willing to go to any lengths to make sure the coronation ceremony never happens-including attacking her mother before Cassie is even born.

This book made me laugh so loud I disturbed random people, and I just kept reading. Kuddos.

“I felt like I was just marking time, waiting for the next attack. And that was getting really old.” When Cassie says this toward the end of the book, all I could think was YES - I COULD NOT AGREE MORE!! The statement pretty much sums up the entire series to this point, and why I have become so frustrated with it. The series has had no real plot beyond everyone unhappy that Cassie is Pythia and her spending each book trying to survive assassination attempt after attempt. She survives by luck and the skin of her teeth, and has at least one manic chase through time against enemies who can manipulate time better than she can. And the end result changes little except maybe her manifesting a new form of the Pythia power - that she doesn’t know how she did and can’t replicate. *sigh* I was nearly prepared to drop this series after the constant roller coaster. But once again, the conclusion hooked me back in.There is a lot to enjoy in the series, despite the frustration. When Chance finally does offer up some revelations or character development, she makes the effort worthwhile. Here, readers finally get an explanation for why The Power chose Cassie; some backstory on Mercea and his motivations; and a little more character development for Cassie. Toward the end, she finally seems to be letting go of the “poor me” whining attitude that has dogged her from the start, and kept her from being a heroine in her own books. Showing some confidence may be the key to Cassie gaining some control over the Pythia power. Plus, Chance has some unique aspects to her worldbuilding that help it stand apart from other urban fantasies. Cassie powers, especially now that they are expanding beyond just shifting through time, are kinda cool with unexpected potential. I love how Greek, and now Norse mythology, are woven into the stories, and the Vampire politics are incredibly well developed. And, even though I am tired of the the damsel in distress routine, I’m also glad that she isn’t just another cookie-cutter, badass martial-artist heroine. Once she starts using her brain, she’s “badass” in her own way. Overall, the ending hooked me enough that I will definitely read the next book. However, if Cassie doesn’t start to get some command of her powers (after FIVE books) and show some confidence, I may start rooting for the next assassin to put her and me out of her misery. Cautiously recommended.

The latest installment in the Cassie Palmer series. This episode delves a little deeper into Mircea and Pritkin. I quite liked it and now I cannot wait until the next one. If you are a fan, you will not be disappointed.

I've had an up and down relationship with the Cassie Palmer series - mostly up, and after reading HUNT THE MOON the only real downside to the series that I can think of is having to wait for the next book in the series to come out. I want to find out what happens next now, not in a year (or, heaven forbid, even longer).

I'm not the kind of person who re-reads books in a series before I start a new one, so I'll admit I had a few moments of confusion reading HUNT THE MOON, when I forgot characters or plot developments from previous books, but I was surprised by how easily the Cassie Palmer world sucked me back in. All the action, the humor, the romance - I'd forgotten how much I'd missed Cassie and Mircea and Pritkin, forgotten how fun Augustine's dress designs were and the vampire bodyguards and all the insane, death-defying situations that Chance engineers for Cassie chapter after chapter.

I've read a few reviews that say this is Pritkin's book and I'll admit, Pritkin is REALLY awesome here. But so is Mircea! At some point, near the end, I put down my kindle and shook my head, thinking it's UNFAIR that any author could come up with two such dreamy dudes and force her heroine to choose. Along with all the action we get a ton of backstory here, huge revelations about Pritkin's background, Mircea's background, and Cassie's most of all.

If you're at all a fan of this series, you should LOVE this installment - it's one of the best.

Review Courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: A fast-paced story of a woman who has more than her fair share of bad luck. Opening Sentence: I hit the ground running – or stumbling or falling; it was kind of hard to tell when it felt like the earth was crumbling under my feet. The Review: I so look forward to these books. Each one ends leaving you chomping at the bit to find out what happens next. I’ve been patiently lying in wait, like a lion in the savannah, ready to pounce as soon as it hits the stores. Surely, this is the book that will satisfy my hunger to know what happens next for our favorite clairvoyant. Needless to say, Hunt the Moon, the fifth installment of the Cassie Palmer series, is just as frustrating as the rest of them. Why can’t Cassie, the main character, just stay home and take a load off once and a while? Hunt the Moon keeps me on the edge of my seat with nonstop action and then BAM, cliff hanger. AGH!!!! How is anyone expected to wait another year for the next book? Deep breath… okay, I’m better now. Cassie Palmer, now Pythia, is finally going to be recognized as the legitimate heir to the office of chief clairvoyant. The death threats from the Silver Circle are now a thing of the past, and the Vampire Alliance negotiations are going well so Cassie should have it easy right? Please, easy things do not happen to Cassie; chaos and mayhem happen around Cassie whether it’s her fault or not. Now there’s speculation on recent events being the signs of the coming of Ragnorok, the end of days. Jeez, will she ever catch a break? As keeper of the timeline, it is Cassie’s duty to keep people from changing the past to alter the future. She’s had lots of experience with this over the last few books by stopping her once chief rival, Mira, from altering events that lead to Cassie’s untimely end. Now a new group is intent on killing her mother and ensuring that Cassie is never born. We get to learn more about Cassie’s long dead parents and how they got together. The story of the former pythian heir, Cassie’s mom, and a rouge dark mage, her dad, running away together after meeting just once no longer holds any water. Cassie has become borderline obsessed with trying to find out anything she can about them, being denied information all these years. In some ways, Cassie is still that lonely child looking for the love and approval from those around her. I believe that Cassie’s search for the truth about her parents and their real relationship is her way of figuring out how to deal with her own relationship with the sexy Senate member, Mircea. Or should I say, her way of NOT dealing with Mircea and focusing on something, anything, else. Growing up in a vampire court has trained her to deal with vampires and their ways but not how to hold her own around them. Mircea’s formal claim is as good as being married both in his mind and the vampire community’s, but Cassie refuses to accept the permanency of the bond. She has an overdeveloped sense of denial that is hampering her emotional growth. I have yet to meet anyone that uses the “ignore it until it goes away” mentality actually working out for them in the long run, but I think that Cassie is still optimistic. There is also Pritkin to contend with. John Pritkin: demon hunter for the Silver Circle, half-incubus and long lost Merlin from legend, is by far the most annoying man in Cassie’s life. Even the piles of vamp bodyguards Mircea surrounds Cassie with don’t come close to pushing her buttons like Pritkin can. He pushes far outside her comfort zone, both in combat training and in friendship. He serves as her personal war mage protector but they also have a lot of unresolved sexual tension to deal with. She likes him, hates him, frustrated by his attitude, and yet can’t stand the idea of him not being around. They have had “encounters” in past books and this one is no exception. Who knew that incubi could be so complicated? Cassie loves Mircea but cannot deny her attraction to Pritkin. I think, that alone, scares the snot out of her. The love triangle is just the cherry on top of all the other tension to contending for top dog in this book. Karen Chance is truly diabolical in her prose. Dropping hints of even more outrageous twists to come and jaw-dropping action that never lets up, Ms. Chance is causing me to lose sleep at night. Once you start one of her books, it is almost impossible to put back down. This book in particular requires more than one read to catch all the details. I have become one of many fans that are addicted to Cassie Palmer and her antics and continue to, not so patiently, wait to find out what is in store next for our beloved heroine. Notable Scene: I guess I fell asleep in the car, because I didn’t remember getting back. Or getting into pink-striped shorty pj’s. Or falling headfirst into bed. But I must have. Because I woke up tangled in my own sheets, the pillow half over my head and sunlight leaking in through a crack in the drapes. I rolled over, felling groggy and thickheaded and gritty-eyed and yucky. It was so much like yesterday that, for a minute, I thought it had all been a dream. But even my dreams weren’t that bizarre. And then I tried to move, and immediately knew it had all been real enough. Because I got the charley horse from hell in my left calf. I didn’t shriek – it wasn’t that loud. But to a vampire’s ears, it must have been loud enough, because the bedroom door burst open and Marco rushed in, gun in hand and face pretty damn scary. He looked around wildly, I suppose for something to shoot, and when he didn’t find anything, he grabbed me. “What is it? What’s wrong?” I stared up at him, still half-asleep and disorientated from the pain, and didn’t say anything. “Cassie!” “Charley horse,” I finally managed to gasp, only it didn’t seem to do any good. Because he just stared at me, uncomprehending, as the room quickly filled up with vamps. “And then he blinked. “Did you say charley horse?” I nodded tearfully. Marco said something profane and shoved his gun into the small of his back. “Get outta here,” he told the others, who melted away into the shadows, looking absurdly grateful. He sighed and sat on the edge of the bed. “Where does it hurt?” “Everywhere.” The Cassie Palmer Series: 1. Touch the Dark 2. Claimed by Shadow 3. Embrace the Night 4. Curse the Dawn 5. Hunt the Moon FTC Advisory: Penguin/Signet provided me with a copy of Hunt the Moon. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Wow... so many discoveries in this book. Soooo much happens. Absolutely amazing. The middle had me laughing, the Mircea and Pritkin parts had me all rootin like a trucker at a t*tty bar, the ending had me yelling wtf and omfg so loud that i scared my cat. There wasn't just a shocking ending, there is a discovering about Cassie and her power that I was in no way expecting. FANTASTIC

Absolutely loved this! The series just gets better and better with each book. I love seeing Cassie coming into her own, pushing for her own interests. And Pritkin... sigh. Such an entertaining partnerhood.

I forgot how much I love Karen Chance. This book had me cracking up. And John Pritkin is one of my absolute favorite characters. I'm fairly certain I'm in love with him. If I could be in a Pritkin/Jericho Barrons (from the Fever series) sandwich, I could die happy.

I remember giving up on the first book in this series the first time I tried to read it because it was too dark and hopeless for me and I thought Cassie was kind of... not whiny, exactly, but close.I'm not sure if I've changed or if the writing has changed, but I flew through this one like it was really funny candy. Even things that normally bug me in UF--love triangles, uber-powerful everything, a cliffhanger ending *sob*--work for me in this case. It could be the awesome supporting cast, the humor or that Cassie's a lot more compassionate and able to cope with cultural differences than many of her UF peers, but my reaction to this series now is: more please!

I've really cooled on this series, but I keep reading and hoping the next time will be better because I'm somewhat of a masochist. I love the Pritkin character (there's just so much to learn about him and let's face it, Mircea is pretty tapped out), but my main problems are with Cassie's wishy-washy grasp on...pretty much everything, and the very super extended (did I mention long?) action sequences. Pages upon pages of action, inundating the reader with one action sequence after another until reaching complete desensitization and for me, pretty much coma. I just disengaged at a certain point and found myself skimming ahead to find a bit of dialogue or see where the characters ended up after the aforementioned super-long action sequence(s). Maybe it's the description, maybe it all just feels repetitive after a while. All I know is that I would like to see fewer super-long action sequences next time around. I'm all for action, but it should enhance the story and not be there just for the sake of being there. Because of the cliffhanger, I'll be tuning in for the next book. But like this one, I don't plan on buying it.

LOVE the book and series but the editing on this book sucked so bad. It cut off mid sentence and left out a lot at the end of chapters.

This book reminded my why I stopped reading the series previously. I'm giving it another chance because of the audiobooks but ...There are too many action sequences and they are too long and two over the top. A lot was revealed in this book and I wish there was more dialogue about these discoveries. The pacing was also off; at times it dragged and at other times it was too fast.

This series has just gotten better and better. My husband thought I was nuts when I kept laughing out loud at certain parts. Cassie Palmer has become increasingly resourceful as she struggles with her Pythia powers while trying to stay alive and keep those she loves from harm in the middle of a supernatural civil war with a little bit of Armageddon thrown in. She discovers even more about her parents in this one, some of it quite surprising. She also becomes more torn between the two men in her life--Mircea and Pritkin. All roads now seem to lead back to where she started--searching for the vampire mafia boss Tony, who is apparently the key to more than just Cassie's need for revenge. I'm looking forward to book 5.

"My toes were floating near the surface of the water, right beside the switch that controlled the drain. It was mounted just below the faucet, within easy reach--if I'd been able to move. As it was, I could only stare at it, stark terror creeping over my body, chilling my skin and threatening to paralyze whatever brain function I had left.I couldn't move and Billy was useless and I couldn't even take a deep breath to calm down because-- Because I was about to drown in the goddamn bathtub."

Cassie has a power problem. She does not know how to use it. Many want her dead, and others want to control her. She must fight to save herself, and in the process learn who she is. For the truth that she seeks will change everything she believes.Being Pythia, is not all it's cracked up to be.Will she learn to embrace her power and gain the respect she deserves, or will she remain a prisoner to the rule of those that want to take it away?

My Thoughts: I love this series, and the characters. Cassie is such a tough character, she constantly keeps pushing through all the pain and the physical strain that is placed upon her, it seems on a daily/hourly basis. What I love about her is her heart, she cares about her family and friends regardless of whether they are vamps or mages. She is willing to risk her life for them. And you would think Cassie would catch a break from all the attempts on her life. Chance lures you in with action packed sequences, that if you're not paying attention you might fall out of your seat, until the last page you might actually fall over from wanting to more. I'm especially curious about the love triangle between her war mage protector, Pritkin and her vampire boyfriend Mircea. I don't think she could go wrong with either one. But, alas I will hang on for the next reading visually stimulating ride in this series.

Spoiler free for the entire series:I LOVE this series! It's full of every sort of supernatural creature imagined and Cassie is an amazing character! They're told in first person so it's important to connect with the character and Cassie is one character I completely feel the connection with. She's bold, she's snarky, she's brave, and she's completely kick ass! She'll stand up for what she believes in, and protect anyone she cares about even when putting herself in peril. And although she's all of those things she's not a perfect person. Sometimes she makes rash decisions, sometimes she's too dang indecisive in what she wants, she doesn't control her powers very well and sometimes she says things she shouldn't say. But those are the things that make her HER. And I love her! These books are PACKED with action. It's just one thing after another. And this is book 5 but only 2 months have passed in all the books. So that shows you how jam packed full of action they are.And talk about sexual tension! They are full of that! We have characters we love, and at moments we hate those same characters and then two seconds later we're in total lust for them. They send us all over the place, but it's all a good thing! Sexy vamps, crazy mages, dragons, gods, demi- gods... yeah, these books really do have everything. I'll admit that the first book didn't sell me on this series. But book two did! And I cruised through the rest only to have a never ending wait for this one. But it was worth the wait! I loved it!The following has spoilers for previous books:This one was longer then the rest I believe, but it was as full, if not MORE full of action. We saw most all of our favorite characters and we got almost equal amounts of Mircea as Pritkin. So whether you are team Mircea, or team Pritkin you should be happy in how much time they have on the page. I actually love both of them but Pritkin is just different. I love him for that. And so I'm completely team Pritkin. A lot happened in this book. Cassie grew, Cassie had revelations, more people came after her... yeah, you know how it goes. This book really had everything I would want. And my only thing I think I would say is maybe it had too much action? I felt like things were constantly crazy and a bit more conversation with people may have been nice. But it wasn't really a big thing and I don't think I would say it officially is a negative. This book although not huge compared to an actual huge book took me a long time to read. Surprisingly long since it's not *really* that big. And I've come to the conclusion that it was because of the action. I found myself reading more slowly so I could keep everything straight. Sometimes I had to reread parts. The action was so crazy that it was easy to get lost. I laughed a lot in this book! I'm sure I did in the previous books as well, but Cassie's thoughts are just too funny! But the other characters say some crazy things, and crazy things happen, and some things are just so absurd that it's hilarious. So yes, I definitely got my laughs in in this one. And that's one thing I really love about this series. It's perfectly balanced with action and humor. Now, the biggest downside? We have to wait!!!! This book ends with a cliffhanger. The things are resolved from this particular issue dealt with through this book. But right when it ends something major happens and Cassie is off to fix it. So now we're waiting to find out how she manages that. It's a cliffhanger that has me anxious for the next one, but it's not AS bad as it could be. The plus side is that I think the next book is going to be even better. At least if it goes in the direction I'm thinking (hoping?). So fingers crossed!

This fifth book in the Cassie Palmer series is probably my favorite. The series is very action packed, but it is the characters that keep me coming back. And this particular book has a lot of character development. Some past stories were given and we saw new emotions, especially from Mircea and Pritkin. This is great, though I have been very much Team Mircea throughout, and this book has me flirting with Team Pritkin. Pritkin has had to hide so much, and it was nice to see behind the stone wall he presents himself as.As much as I enjoyed it I couldn't give it a full 5 stars. Chance's action scenes are just too confusing. No matter how slowly I read them and re-read them, they absolutely make no sense to me. I can't fully picture what is actually happening. And I have seen other people's reviews with the same complaint, so I know it is not just me.

Book five in the series, and like the others, takes place in just a few days time. As a matter of fact only two months have passed since the series began. In the last book traitors for both the Silver Circle and the Vampire Council had been uncovered and eliminated, Apollo had been killed and an alliance was being formed between the various vampire senates and the Silver Circle. Cassie’s coronation in front of all is less than two weeks away. She’s begun training with Marsden and her biggest worry should be the dress for the coronation Augustine is creating but won’t let her see. Ah, but if that were true the book would be rather boring. What we have is an exciting story with greatly-detailed action scenes, allowing the author’s wild imagination and humor to come to life. This is peppered with revelations on Pritkin’s past, why Mircea is so protective, and most surprisingly that Cassie’s parents aren’t quite the people she’d been led to believe.Artemis’ spell keeps the gods from the Earthly plane, but not their demigod descendants and the five sons of Ares are a tad upset over the killing of Apollo. They’ve got another good reason for wanting Cassie and her mother dead, and unless Cassie can help save her mother, she won’t be born. There’s also an entity that possesses Cassie in an attempt to kill her and not all of the wards and vampire guards are enough to keep her safe. And while doing all of that Cassie must assert herself and her position over the vampires and the Circle, or forever be nothing more than their puppet.I was grabbed immediately from the first page as the book begins in the middle of an action scene and it just doesn’t let you go. But more importantly for me is that as we learn more about the characters and their backgrounds the various relationships feel more real and understandable. So why not 5 stars? On the whole I thought is was an excellent book, but I sometimes get lost in the long detailed action scenes as I try to visualize what’s happening. My imagination can’t always keep up with author’s. And with so much action, the reader can be left feeling either exhilarated or somewhat drained.

Cassie Palmer is the most powerful clairvoyant in the magical world. Without really trying (most of the time) she’s managed to irritate just about everyone in the magical world (and often the reader as well.) After five books, I think the only thing that can really be said about her: TSTL. I’m not sure there is really any plot to this story, rather Cassie gets horribly injured and magically healed in a variety of ways. Later, rinse, and repeat. There’s nothing but action scenes that are dragged out longer than they need to be, mostly to hide the lack of plot. There were some small crumbs of overall series arc advancements, but very little that I found interesting. I am so done with this series. I’m not going to waste my money on books that are both forgettable and contain characters that become more annoying with time.
