About this audiobook

Five dishonored soldiers.
Former Special Forces.
One last mission.
These are the men of Hard Ink.

Edward "Easy" Cantrell knows better than most the pain of not being able to save those he loves—which is why he is not going to let Jenna Dean out of his sight. He may have just met her, but Jenna's the first person to make him feel alive since that devastating day in the desert more than a year ago.

Jenna has never met anyone like Easy. She can't describe how he makes her feel—and not just because he saved her life. No, the stirrings inside her stretch far beyond gratitude.

When the pair is thrust together and chaos reigns around them, they both know one thing: The things in life most worth having are the hardest to hold on to.

This was a pretty intense and deep novella. It’s a cute little story of Easy and Jenna coming together and finding peace within one another. There are many intense situations happening in this series, and this novella shows Jenna recovering after being kidnapped. Easy is also going through some of his own issues as well. Through their solitude they are able to work through issues on their own as well as together. It is beautiful how they can help heal each other and build on their love for one another.

The overall storyline does still develop a little, but it is focused more on the home base and how everyone is taking a step back almost to regroup and adjust to being together for a longer period of time.

Hard to Hold on To is the first novella in Laura Kaye's Hard Ink series, but it's still an incredibly satisfying story. I'd probably classify this more as a contemporary romance than romantic suspense because the focus is definitely on the relationship between the two main characters and there is much less active than before but I think that it was a much more heartfelt read because of that and I absolutely loved this couple.

We already met Jenna in the previous book, she was rescued along with her sister Sara and this story picks up just as the team is returning to base after their successful rescue operation. Jenna is in a bad way after being drugged and held captive by human traffickers, the stress has taken its toll and the lack of her epilepsy medication hasn't helped. Jenna is exhausted but still on edge and the only person she feels safe around is Easy. The last thing Easy should be looking for in a relationship, he has been struggling to cope since losing his best friend in the disastrous operation that saw the whole team facing a dishonorable discharge from the forces. Easy is suffering from PTSD, he has nightmares, flashbacks and is extremely depressed. Being around his old teammates is hard but it's something he desperately needed and he finds strength in the idea of clearing their names.

Easy's story absolutely broke my heart, he is going through such a difficult time and I felt that Laura Kaye did a fantastic job of showing the effects of PTSD. There is no magical fix for Easy but he slowly opens up and asks for help from his team and from Jenna. There are some really emotional scenes with him and the other guys that really tore at my heartstrings but there is also a lot of love, laughter, and unconditional support. I was pleased that Ease’s problems didn't immediately vanish when he met Jenna but things are definitely going in the right direction for him and I couldn't be happier about that.

Read for Fun (Library Book)Overall Rating: 4.25Story Rating: 4.50Character Rating: 4.00First Thought when Finished: Hard to Hold on To by Laura Kaye is my favorite in the series so far! VERY EMOTIONAL!Quick Thoughts: Emotionally this novella packed a punch. There are some pretty deep and real things dealt with here: PTSD and Suicide. I wish this had been a bit longer (that was my only complaint). I also loved that Easy and Jenna are taking their connection seriously and...[slow! Seriously no in the moment "I Love You". They acknowledge their connection and decide to pursue their relationship. (hide spoiler)]I highly recommend this!Library Reviews

    Jenna and Easy

This novella takes up minutes after "Hard as you Can." Way too short; I wanted more of Jenna and Easy. Hope to read more of their relationship in future Hard Ink books.

This book had a character dealing with Military PTSD and depression.
