William C. Morris Award Winner: Best Young Adult Debut of the Year * National Book Award Longlist

""A remarkable gift of a novel.""—Andrew Smith, author of Grasshopper Jungle

Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he's pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he's never met.

Incredibly funny and poignant, this twenty-first-century coming-of-age, coming out story—wrapped in a geek romance—is a knockout of a debut novel by Becky Albertalli.

Plus don't miss Yes No Maybe So, Becky Albertalli's and Aisha Saeed's heartwarming and hilarious new novel, coming in 2020!

I’ve listened to this book twice and loved it equally both times. Becky is a fantastic writer. She encapsulates the teen experience so well. And she’s funny as hell. The narrator does her justice for sure.

Just absolutely beautiful. It is great to see a gay teen, just being a gay teen.

Sweet and light story about high school life and coming out as gay, bullying and the drama of being a teenager in love.

Very cute. I like that Simon didn't ever really have it figured out and that he could remain kind to Martin.
Simon and his friends did make me snort a few times. It was a quick read with a diverse cast of characters but also included family and personal feelings and goals.

It's very rare, unheard of in fact, for me to read a book in one sitting but (and I'm aware it's cliched, sorry) I actually didn't want to put this book down. Simon is such an interesting and engaging person, I loved being inside his head and feeling everything he did.

The story starts with the first anguish that someone has discovered his secret about his sexuality and the emails he sends to an anonymous student at their school, and takes us on a quick journey through his developing feelings for 'Blue' and his relationships with his friends.

I'd been told that this was 'just a coming out story' and the person who told me that sold it short by a long shot. This story is so much more, and Simon's almost forced coming out is a sideline to the deeper look into friendships, how we know ourselves (can we ever), how well we know the people around us, the surprises and secrets that everyone hides.

I loved how deeply we got into Simon's head, into his private life, and how he displayed his mortification when he realises the assumptions and prejudices he's been exhibiting.

This is such a brilliantly written and emotional story. I smiled so much, I laughed, I almost cried, and now I'm done I want to read it all over again.

I've read and listened to this story multiple times now, and am so, so, sad to see it end every time. For a straight adult woman, Abertalli captures the life of a gay teen boy so perfectly. The entire cast of characters is authentic, in fact. I highly recommend fans of the film experience this book, which is a significantly different experience.

A darling gay romance book. I love how sweet and wholesome it is, about a boy figuring out his sexuality and about himself and its a really good read. I highly recommend.

I loved it so much! I'm so glad I've listened to the audiobook instead of picking up the book. As I'm not a regular contemporary reader it really helped me to dive into the story and to enjoy it. The narration is just amazing! I laughed so much! Simon is really well developed and pretty relatable. He was funny and cynical just so lovable... Despite some not-so-easy-subjects-to-talk-about my listening experience was still light and enjoyable. It is the cutest love story/romance I've ever listened to.
    This book made me happy.
Bonus Point: Simon is a Harry Potter fan!!!!!

A little overhyped in my opinion. I don't understand why this book is so popular when our love interest hasn't REALLY been introduced.

Im new to this kind of story not the usual book I used to listen/read and it completely changes my perspective about bisexuals It kind of fascinate me in a way I thought I already knew like 80% of who they are the fact that I have lots of gay friends but I guess I was wrong anyway this books feel like home its like Simon is a long time friend of mine and just casually talking to me sitting in a stall and sipping our milkshake its feels so laid back.

So much of this book is perfect. I identified so much with Simon throughout this. Coming out is not easy and this book made me feel so much of what I had when I had come out. Chalk full of emotions and expert writing. I'll probably be reading this again in a month.
