- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Mouse wakes up one morning to a delicious smell emanating through the air. He follows his nose to discover a Cinco de Mayo festival going on! As he tries to chase down all the wonderful food smells and most especially the glorious pinata, he is unaware that he is being stalked by a cat who wants to make a treat of him! There aren't many interesting fiction options out there for Cinco de Mayo when it comes to picture books, so this is a fine addition to any personal, public, or school library in that respect. Fiesta highlights are mentioned and a few Spanish words are intermingled in the text. The illustrations are really quite lovely, almost realistic looking and full of little interesting details to notice. My biggest quibble, if you can even call it that, is that this book is a little wordy. I think it would work well for elementary school-age children but not for preschoolers (unless they happen to have a particularly long attention span).
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This book is a bout a little mouse who is going to celebrate Cinco De mayo. That means the fifth of May. Every Cinco de Mayo, the spicy smells tickle his nose with beany, cheesy and ricey smells. This is a big holiday for the Spanish culture and there is a lot of preparation that happens on this day as well. People eating, dancing, drinking, strolling, playing, singing all happen. Pinata's are filled with candy, and the children are allowed to hit it with a stick and see how much candy they can collect. It was a very cute book because as small as the mouse is, he still made the best of his Cinco de Mayo and enjoyed himself.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Review: This book is about a mouse who lives in hole in the wall of a house. He wakes up one morning smelling yummy Mexican food. He follows the scent and it leads him to a Cinco de Mayo festival in the town. Mouse sees a pinata and decides that is what he needs for his very own festival but it was swinging high up in a tree. Mouse gets distracted by all the yummy droppings of food that he finds on the ground so he decided to have a little feast. This whole time there is a cat that is eyeing mouse. Mouse gets tired so he lays down to rest. Just as he wakes up he sees the cat coming towards him. Mouse got lucky and escaped by hiding behind a stage. Mouse decided he must get the pinata now. He climbs and climbs and finally reaches the pinata but a boy takes a final swing on it and it comes dropping to the ground. All the children gathered up all the candy and when mouse is able to breathe again he looks up and all the candy is gone. Just as he is about to go home he sees one last piece of candy in the bushes. He scoops it up and takes it home for his very own Cinco de Mayo festival.
