About this audiobook

A New York Times bestseller!

What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias's death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

Full of nonstop action, suspense, and romance, this novel is sure to move readers as much as it thrills.

A dystopian book that has been compared to The Hunger Games, but lacks the urgency, character and plot development, and excellent writing of that series. I listened to this book on audio, and some things were irritating such as the pronunciation of “parent- es” (parents’) chim-in-ee” (chimney), etc. I will likely listen to the sequels, because I have a subscription. The first book is somewhat complete, but not stand- alone.

This book is amazing!! A little slow at times, where the pace and plot get a little jumbled up. But i highly recommend it, and it’s one of my favorite reads.

I'm not sure why I waited so long to read this book, but it was incredible. I'm not a huge fan of dystopian books right now, but Lu's writing is captivating and draws you in. The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is that you could see the twist coming from the beginning. That being said it didn't take away from the reading of the book. You wanted it to happen, you wanted to get to it, and you couldn't put it down!

Loved the male and female reader, added an extra depth to the story.

An excellent read if you loved Mockingjay

The characters are really compelling for a YA book (don't get me wrong, I love YA). But compared to other dystopian novels, the characters of this book really stand out.
