About this audiobook

When delicous baked goods become lethal, a trail of poetry leads to a sweet-toothed killer.
The Amish Artisan Village of Middlebury, Indiana, might be the last place you would ever expect to find a murderer. But Amber has been managing the Village for decades and there's nothing she hasn't seen. Or so she thought. When poetic notes begin appearing around the bakery, warning that some of the pies have been poisoned, Amber is as confused as she is concerned. Who poisons pies? And more to the point, who leaves poems of warning after they've done it? When Amber decides to help the police track down the sweet-toothed saboteur, she enlists Hannah Troyer for another round of Amish-style detective work. Can Amber and Hannah help the police before the Poison Poet strikes? Both women will need to draw on their faith to preserve the peaceful community they've built in Middlebury . . . and to protect the girls who work in the Amish Artisan Village.

Someone is threatening to poison pies at the village bakery, leaving notes in the form of badly written poetry. Amber and Hannah try to find the possible poisoner before someone is sickened or worse by poisoned baked goods. But that’s not the only thing troubling Amber and Hannah. One of their friends is going through a rough patch coping with PTSD, and three other friends seem to be falling for the same unscrupulous man. Two other friends are planning for their upcoming weddings. Meanwhile, the village is organizing a Race for the Cure event. Much happens in the well-written cozy and it will having you racing towards the surprise ending.

I love this series by Vannetta Chapman and am hoping for more. While this book can be read alone, it will leave you wanting to go back and read the others in the series. I love getting to know the characters of the village and how Amber seems to find herself caught up in more that she wants to in the village. She had finally gotten settled down, but can't seem to stay away from stumbling across mysteries and murders. I enjoyed the twists in the plot and seeing the Amish act a bit different than expected.

I understand that this is the 3rd book in this series. This however is the first one I have had the opportunity to read. The book can be read as a stand alone but there are many references to previous story-lines and characters. The story is well written and keeps you guessing for awhile, but three quarters of the way through I was sure who the guilty party was, I just didn't yet know all they would do. The main character Amber is the manager at The Village in Middlebury, Indiana. She and her husband Tate are newlyweds. TheVillages houses shops, an inn, a restaurant and bakery and a conference center. Due to the Amish surrounding the property and also working on the property many people come just to see the Amish way of life and this is partially what The Village caters to. Everything seems to be going well at the business and in Amber's life but things are not always what they seem. When threatening poems start showing up everyone is on alert. As word gets out it seems the person behind the poems know everything that is happening all of the time. Amber feel she must protect everyone. Friends are preparing to marry, another is healing from a very traumatic time in his life and possibly finding love. while other long for love but look in the wrong direction. There are quite a few secondary story-lines being told in this book but they all seem to flow and revolve around each other. I would consider this a cozy mystery and that fact that it has a Christian background makes it all the better.

The police suspect Preston Johnston, but Amber refuses to believe her employee could do such a thing. I will miss Amber & Hannah! What a fun combo along with Pam, Preston, Tate and all the other characters that makes this a fantastic series!!!! The suspense of from the start made me rush to get to the grand finale! It was not surprise that Ryan was the victim since the book starts with that event. The rewind made for a puzzling that was fun to put together. I Loved how the series ended with all strings tied up. The transformation from the first to last book was great. I especially like that despite it being part of a series it was a stand alone book. Yes, much had changed, but it does not ruin the mysteries that take place in the previous books. It is almost sad to say goodbye to these characters.I would like to thank Net Galley and Zondervan for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone. We are back at the Artisan Village in Middlebury, Indiana, and the unthinkable happens as you turn the first few pages, yes another murder. This is the third one that I have experienced along with Amber, and no one would expect all of these in this picturesque Amish setting. We are back with old and new friends, and become reacquainted with those we have come to know in the past books. Loved one of the new characters, Mocha, yes sounds like a drink? Nope! While we witness the murder right up front, we back up and come forward as to why and run the gamut as to who is the culprit. There are a bakers dozen on the list as it gets whittled down. There is the murder and then there are the threats of poisoning, why? Answers are going to really surprise you and I didn’t guess whom the culprit was. Good luck!I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Zondervan, and was not required to give a positive review.

Title: Murder Freshly Baked (Amish Village Mystery #3)Author: Vannetta ChapmanPages: 340Year: 2015Publisher: ZondervanAmber and Hannah are back solving crime in this third book of the Amish Village Mystery series. Amber is still aglow as a newlywed and Hannah is busy planning her wedding. Then, Amber receives an email threatening a poisonous pie in the village bakery. Amber thinks it is just someone playing a prank, but the next morning a pie with a note about poison is found in the bakery. She shows the local sheriff the email, incurring the wrath of the sender. She is then forced by the sender to keep everything to herself or the sender will escalate his/her plan to harm someone close to Amber.Meanwhile, all her employees who she considers her family are concerned about how worried Amber seems and try to help her any way they can. Amber and Hannah are also concerned about the three women who work at the Amish Village who are all dating the same man. Two of the women are Amish, one of them quite a bit younger than the man in question. They just know someone is going to have their heart broken and try to warn the women. Did their warnings fall on deaf ears? The man they are dating ends up being shot as he crosses the finish line at the end of a running race in benefit of cancer research. Did one of the three women pull the trigger? Is there more to this than meets the eye?I’ve read all three books in this series and really enjoyed them. Amber has such a big heart and is so caring toward her employees. I also really liked the story of Preston; I thought that added a lot of interest for me to the story. I appreciated that the stories wove in the Amish people and their beliefs, but that wasn’t the main focus, which was the mystery itself. I hope to read more mysteries from this talented author. My rating is 4 stars.Disclosure of Material Connection: I received one or more of the products or services mentioned above for free in the hope that I would mention it on my blog. Murder Freshly Baked by Vannetta Chapman is the third book in the Amish Village Mystery series. Amber Bowman is the manager of The Amish Village in Middlebury, Indiana. Things have been going well for the last few months and Amber is looking forward to the weddings of her friends, Hannah and Mary. Then she starts receiving strange emails. The emails are bad poetry stating that pies and other pastries are poisoned. Then someone starts leaving pies with poetry around town. Then the Poison Poet (as they have dubbed him) starts making it personal and attacking Amber. Hannah, Tate, Amber, Jesse, Pam and friends set out to find who is behind the notes and pies. Who is the Poison Poet?Preston Johnstone is still having PTSD episodes (he was the homeless man in the first book and now works and lives in the Amish Village). He is dating Zoey Quinn who is a nurse who works at the nursing home where Preston’s father lives. Zoey has found out about a special program that pairs dogs with people with PTSD. Zoey has convinced Preston to fill out an application for a dog. Preston is not sure how a dog will help him, but he is willing to give it a chance (with a lot of encouragement from Amber, Tate, and Zoey). Preston would like to get over his past so he can have a future. Hopefully, Mocha (his new PTSD dog) will help him so Preston can go after the girl of his dreams.Hannah (manager of coffee shop) and Mary (The Cat’s Meow) are busy planning their weddings. They are having a double wedding. Their finance’s are finishing up their rooms. They will be living at the Miller’s home (the boy’s parents). Hannah, Mary, Pam (assistant manager at The Village), and Amber are worried about their friends. Martha Gingerich, Letha Keim, and Georgia Small are all dating Ryan Duvall. Ryan is something of a playboy. He is Englisch and two of the girls are Amish. No one wants to see them hurt, but it is destined to happen. Ryan would never convert to the Amish faith and Martha and Letha would not want to leave the Amish. Then after Ryan finishes The Race for the Cure he is shot dead. Who killed him? Was he shot because of philandering ways or because of his gambling problem? Murder Freshly Baked is a charming novel. The book contained great, likeable characters, a little romance, a beautiful setting, and good mysteries. However, I did not enjoy this book as much as the first two in the series. I liked that Preston was getting help for his PTSD, but I did not enjoy all the scenes of his time in Afghanistan. They did not seem to go with the book (maybe if there had been only one or two scenes). I liked hearing about how dogs can help people with PTSD. What a great program. I give Murder Freshly Baked 4 out of 5 stars.I received a complimentary copy of Murder Freshly Baked from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The review and opinions expressed are my own.
